1920's Gangsters

Hello,

I realize I came out of nowhere, but I wanted to put in a character.

Little Tommy

Name: Tommaso "Little Tommy" Provenzano
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/Nationality: Italian, illegally emigrated to the US from Palermo region of Sicily.
Occupation: Delivery driver.
Physical Description:

Under average height and stocky, Tommy manages to blend in, especially in an Italian neighborhood. He has an aquiline, very Moorish look to him; olive skin and obsidian eyes, hair combed carefully down and back. He has scars and calluses on his hands from his work. He isn't expensively dressed. He's not making that much.

Skillset:

Tommy is a surprisingly good driver and mechanic. He was apprenticed to a butcher at one point and worked kitchens to make ends meet. Mostly, he's used to hard labor and doesn't complain about having to do work, and he's added some muscle from somewhat decent nutrition in the US. Speaks perfect Italian, working on his English so it doesn't stand out as much. He's got a little work to do, but it's mostly the accent now.

History:

Tommaso's father, Paul, was killed when he was little in a typically Sicilian way; vendetta. His mother didn't last long past that either. Rather than stay to die by the hands of the men that Paul had a vendetta with (as generational revenge is a Sicilian thing), Tommy and his brother Peter managed to jump onto a freighter and work their way across. When they got to New York, they jumped right off. Tommy worked a number of odd jobs all his life alongside Pete until Pete passed from the influenza outbreak of 1918. Then it was all Tommy. He had to live on his own in Brooklyn, sometimes without an actual place to live. He knew how to keep his mouth shut and his head down.

In the course of a number of odd jobs dishwashing and cooking, he became a butcher's apprentice in Bensonhurst and then a delivery driver, working for a meat packing plant, delivering to and from the plant to the Port and points in between. In the course of delivery driving, he took money under the table to deliver other things. It was a way to make sure that he had a place to live and enough food to eat.

One day, a couple of guys came to try and force Tommy to give up the goods. Tommy turned down their offer to take a small cut of the robbery. They implied that he needed to just play along or get hurt and it wasn't his problem is his boss lost some product; just the way of things. He knew that if he took that money, he'd lose the job and possibly his life -- that was the price of betrayal where he came from.

Instead of waiting for them to come for him with guns, he set up a meeting with both men to 'plan.' He took them both out with a lupara when they were in an elevator on their way to the meeting. There weren't any witnesses. The murders of Luciano Morello and Santino Navarro were part of a larger gang war, and the NYPD took interest. He didn't talk when the cops arrested him and there just wasn't any real evidence. He'd been too efficient in getting rid of the gun and establishing an alibi (because delivery drivers are seen a lot). A good lawyer turned up from nowhere, a Jew from Crown Heights that knew every move.

After that arrest, Little Tommy Provenzano had a reputation, or at least the start of one. He just went back to work and kept his head down. But, by then, he caught some people's attention.

I. Compliance

A bolt travels a long way to the chamber of a boltgun. The finest materials traveled into the forges to be shaped by the machinery overseen by tech adepts. The acceptable quality of such an item was immense, and waste of resources or skill not tolerated. Once stamped with the seal, it was packed with other such items for voyage into the void, out to the ever-gapening maw of the Emperor's Legiones Astartes.

Thence it would find its way into the holds of a rogue trader transporting emergency resupply items into the warzone. The bolter rounds would sit in that case, in the hold of a ship, until the intended user, an Astartes, loaded the rounds into magazines and the magazines into their respective bandoliers and webbing.

It would be carried into a transport vessel, a civilian one obeying the orders of the Argyos planetary governor that a tithe be paid in material in these most unusual and harrowing of times. That the vessel carried the truth tithe, death from the Emperor, did not cross the minds of the men directing the traffic from space down to planetside, into the garrison that was the man's fortress, his center of authority. It was also the cancer in the center of this world, a place where the seeds of Chaos were being planted.

The enemy were not entirely without caution; the local forces were in on this governor's little rebellion, this balking of the Great Crusade and the Imperial Compliance. The expected little rebellions in response to the various edicts. They expected informed citizens, loyal to the Emperor of Mankind, to create mayhem, to resist. But they did not expect there would be Astartes involved. The hatch of the transport opened and prepared for inspection. The men piloting the transport found something solid to take cover behind. They knew what would come next.

And so when the bolt was fired, the casing ejected, and the bolt itself found a home in the head of a trooper that was not expecting that, fired by a man that was a Son of Horus no more. It wasn't the first shot Argyos ever heard fired in anger, but it was the first shot of a new war.

Alright, one more day and then we'll get going. Basically, I work tomorrow morning, but get off after only four hours. I already know what I want to do with that first post, so it should be an easy post.

I don't think you are, they're all in the aftermath of Istvaan V - the original betrayal - and before the Siege of Terra.

Minus the Thousand Son, who were carved up by the Space Dogs earlier in the timeline.

And there's a 7 year gap between the two things. The Horus Heresy lasted a long time. This is just the start.

I honestly considered an Iron Warrior. I always liked the back story. I feel like a Marine from that legion is likely to know how to rig up explosives and use them expertly. Probably the right one to handle heavy weapons too, when they come across them. I think if we stick to bolters for now, we're good.
