Personality: Rex is a generally calm, composed sort of android, with a mind on par with that of organic humans in regards to being able to think, feel, and process things for himself and the like while still boasting the processing speed of an advanced machine. He prefers to remain quiet unless given orders, is addressed by others, or otherwise feels the need to actually speak to others. In this sense he can be more quiet and reserved in some sense. Yet under all of this silence lies the mind of a being who has been thrown aside in the past in favor of others, who works his hardest and somewhat mechanically at times to earn his place in the world that keep moving forward beyond him, and who has the sheer tenacity and determination to overcome virtually any mountain he sets he faces. Despite his quiet demeanor, he does enjoy conversations and getting to know others, though does not feel he is the best at starting them. Indeed, one could also say he is actually a lonely individual in part when it comes down to it.
History: The Metal Gear Program is a branch of the United States Army that has been aligned with the GDF for the purpose of protection from kaiju. Originally Metal Gears were first conceived as an idea during the Cold War by Soviet weapons researcher Aleksandr Leonovitch Granin as a superior form of bipedal tank that could combine the roles of both infantry and artillery all into one. This information was intercepted and stolen by the American CIA prior to Granin's death, and was to be transformed into an American superweapon. Since the 1970's the Unites States has tried to develop a functional version of the Metal Gear, though many early versions were not the bipedal, nuclear-armed, mobile tanks they came to be, and more or less resembled ICBM's. The Soviet Union, however, also produced their own Metal Gear dubbed "Metal Gear Sahelanthropus" that they tested and deployed for a brief time in Afghanistan in 1984, pushing the United States Army with the help of two private defense subcontractors to develop plans for an android/cyborg Metal Gear named "REX" by 1999.
In 2005, the first Metal Gear REX, indeed this REX in particular as it would happen to be, was completed. Having a height enhancer and an experimental Fusion Reactor installed on it (and not placed on later Jaegers due to its experimental nature) that would supposedly grant it a near infinite power source, REX was a top of the line product of his time in regards to the Metal Gear Program. However, he stood shorter than many mechs during and after his time, only having a maximum height of 60 meters at his tallest. To try to compensate for that, the United States Army equipped him with a railgun, one which could fire projectiles (and nukes obviously) to literally anywhere around the world, among other armaments that would grant him higher firepower in the process. Indeed, after this production on several Metal Gears began as the United States saw these weapons as the "wave of the future".
However, due to the appearance of the Rift Kaiju that spurred on the likes of the Jaeger Program, production of Metal Gears that could not move about in water was stopped in 2017 along with 75% of the production of the one Metal Gear model (Metal Gear RAY) that could be used in the water as well as on land. This left what few Metal Gears like REX that had been made in the past as the only terrestrial Metal Gears of their kind. They were mainly employed for coastal defense on the West Coast of the United States as a land-support unit for Jaegers, but as of very recently have been deployed to other areas to assist the GDF in anti-kaiju defenses. In the case of REX, he was transferred to where the commanding officers of the GDF's Android Division were located, in order to help provide support in combat situation in that area of the world.
Power/Abilities:

General Armaments: REX differs from earlier Metal Gear models in that its legs were heavily armored and reinforced; not vulnerable like its predecessors. Along with near-impenetrable compound armor (of which only HEAT weapons could deal sufficient damage), REX also had a pair of 30mm, XGAU-8R rotary cannons, AGM-114P anti-tank missiles, and a free-electron variant of the Mobile Tactical High-Energy Laser(MTHEL-FE) to protect itself from conventional forces. Its feet also possessed retractable metal stake-like protrusions, which were used to find purchase on difficult terrain, and could be employed in "stomp" attacks on an enemy.
The AGM-114P anti-tank missiles, launched from both of REX's knees and back, were a laser semi-active homing type that didn't use wires. The launchers used a low-powered laser illuminator to bounce a coded laser beam off a target that the missile would then home in on. The free-electron laser cannon mounted on REX's belly was capable of generating almost 100 megawatts of energy, ten times greater than any other laser at that time.
REX's most fearsome weapon, however, was the magnetic rail gun. By perfecting the process of electromagnetic acceleration, the rail gun is able to fire a projectile with a muzzle velocity of over 100 kilometers per second. It was apparently originally going to be used to shoot down enemy ICBMs outside the atmosphere. It has been stated that when fired outside the atmosphere, REX's nuclear rounds would have had a radius of effect of 300 meters, and the gun would be sufficiently accurate to hit a satellite traveling at 10 kilometers per second.

"Street Fighter" Software: Programming installed into REX in the last five years that has not only granted REX an agility boost, but enabled the Metal Gear to execute kicking and other melee moves, which would be lethal to many military vehicles and other Metal Gears such as Metal Gear RAY. This program was one of REX's most lethal weapons compared to its other conventional warfare weapons, as military vehicles and Metal Gears were designed with countermeasures against conventional armaments, but not the raw brute force of these attacks.

Experimental Fusion Reactor: A fusion reactor contained within the very center of REX's body, it powers his entire body, his armaments, and the rest of his systems. It produces quite a good bit of power, enough to even power his railgun alongside his other weapons systems without a problem for lengthy periods of time beyond other mechs. Yet for all of the great amounts of power produced by this fusion reactor, beyond that of some other more modern mechs even, this fusion reactor can definitely become overheated if the railgun is fired too often, and in the process can force REX to rely on more conventional weapons while the fusions reactor returns to its normal state.

Super Armor and Size Manipulation: REX is able to grow up to 50 meters in height, and can return to his normal human size as well. When equipping his super armor for enhanced defenses, and such, he goes temporarily up to his maximum height of 60 meters. He can maintain using his super armor for about thirty minutes before he begins to overheat his fusion reactor and must return to his normal form, but this lengthier time limit only exists since his super armor only grants him additional defenses and height rather than any other bonuses.
