The Fallen Aasimar Cleric on a never ending path of redemption

I thousand lifetimes cannot wash the blood off my hands!
Alena stood in the morning dusk, gaze set upon the cathedral as she waited. The soft glow she'd infused her Suonetar emblem with, illuminated her pale face creating the illusion of her fair skin appearing almost translucent. Lex, the paladin they'd apprehended, stood obediently beside her. As soon as the group exited the building he gestured toward them affirming to Alena that it was in fact them that she was here to detain together with her men.

As the group filed out of the cathedral one after the other the cleric observed their facial expressions and general outlook. It appeared as though these people had gone through hell and back. And maybe even then some. Alena also recognized the look of loss on all their faces. Even if this Lex had not already informed her of the loss of one of their comrades, Daisy, she would have noticed it immediately on all of them. As it was a look she'd seen far too often on the faces of her enemies. Then, unlike now, it had failed to produce any sort of emotional response in her. But now... now she could empathize completely with these people and did not wish to pile up on their sorrow. Unfortunately, she had her orders. This mess of a situation at the church needed to be dealt with as swiftly and as bloodlessly as possible and since the General knew she had a propensity for the former and a preference for the lather, he'd entrusted her with the task to detain the group and bring the members before him to be deposed. And Alena planned to do just that.

She stepped forward a bit, tacking court of the officers piled in front of the cathedral, and raised her hands a bit, palms up. "Good morrow, folks, I am Alena Provost of the Knights of Bourgund. Forgive this abrupt welcoming of sorts. It has come to the General's attention that a number of people have lost their lives here under yet to be determined circumstances." Alena's gaze shifted for a moment on Lex, the paladin, and then returned to the group. "Your paladin friend here has already given his statement of what has transpired and has turned himself willingly to our purview. I am here to ask you to do the same until this situation is resolved."

The redhead paused, not so much for effect, as to gather her thoughts and relate what she wanted from the group in the gentlest, most nonabrasive and considerate manner. "I understand you've all been through a lot. I've been told you lost a companion and for that I cannot extend my condolences enough. What I can offer you is my personal promise that I will treat you with the honesty and respect your own behavior deems of me. General Aengus has entasked me with bringing you to him to offer your statements as to what has happened here. I ask that you come willingly. And yes, I will need to manacle you just like your comrade Lex here. But that is only as a gesture of your good will and as a sign that you mean not to disrupt the proceedings."

Again Alena paused and scanned the faces of her targets one by one. Although employing her most benign and placating countenance, there was a hard edge to her features. For she had permission to bring these people in willing or not. And even if she would prefer it if they came peacefully, she was also prepared to wrestle them into submission if need be. "I can assure you me and my men have no intention of parading you around the city as common criminals. We will respect your reputation and stature and take you to the general in such a route as to ensure no ill effects on any of you in that regard." A brief pause. "However... Should you decide to run from your responsibility in all this, I am fully authorized to use force. But I would very much hate to do that..." Alena paused yet again and this time a dark shadow crossed her pale face and her yellowish eyes clouded with pain. "So I again implore for your cooperation." The cleric fell silent and awaited the reactions of her charges.

Yes, I too shall get to work on my girl
After Lonett's attack was denied so nonchalantly by Krusk, she watched in horror as Divna fell stricken to the ground yet again. The ranger made a move to approach the Orc leader, now completely enraged, just as a chain lightning was let loose by one of her companions and the orcs revealed their cowardice and turned tail and ran. Oh, no, you don't! Lonett thought and sought to foil Krusk’s plan as she recognized his attempt to teleport out via a scroll he produced from a satchel on his side. However her reaction was off by seconds and the pompous pretender fled with no reparations to be made for the havoc that he wroth with his empty demands and desires.

Lonett rushed to her fallen companion just as the elder Kethan was once again one step ahead of her, healing her mighty friend and bringing her back from the brink. "Your precious aid is yet again most appreciated, Master Kethan!" The ranger uttered with a slight catch in her voice, her words muffled by her war mask. She dropped to her knees, depositing shield and javelin on the ground, and wove her arms around Divna's neck. "Silly beast!" She murmured mock angrily. "Don't do that ever again!" Lonett chastised. She then stood up letting the owlbear do the same and laid a hand on her beak. "You are a mighty beast! I know. But these are not the enemies we two alone would normally encounter. Please, promise me you'll be more careful. Less impulsive." Lonett peered into Divna's eyes pleading, but at the same time not.

The hulking beast screeched and squawked indignantly for a moment or two, but then acquiesced with a far too perky for her current condition peck on her human's head. "Ow!" The ranger grumbled, but accepted the lovable gesture. "Sit and rest a while." Lonett directed. "I have some business to take care of." She continued as she started to survey the battlefield in search of a nice, unspoiled puddle of orc blood. A sample of the orcs' blood would help the team with a possible Orc Hunt later on. Should they survive this mission they were about to embark on. I will survive! Lonett promised herself vehemently. If only to teach that pompous Orc a lesson or two about humility and priorities! When the ranger found a spot on the ground that carried what she was almost positive was an uncorrupted sample of orcish blood, she gathered an ounce or two in a vile and stashed it into her bag of holding.

She stood up and looked about the ground in search of anything else that might have been left there by the interlopers. Finding nothing however she surveyed the courtyard and pinpointing the slight form of the gnome artificer perched up on a stone arch, she simply walked up the wall until she joined Scrapmouse. Sitting herself near the gnome she gazed down at Divna resting on the ground, observing the movements of the humans around her. "I almost lost her today." Lonett muttered in a pained voice. "And this mission we're about to undertake is going to be even more dangerous than this silly fight with a petulant, megalomaniac Orc." Lonett looked at Scrapmouse. "I wonder if I could interest you in a cooperative crafts and arts project. Something that would allow Divna to be more effective in combat against more durable and resilient foes. Please, think about it. I would certainly appreciate the help. I know my way around weapon crafting. But when it comes to imbuing them with magic... Well, I'm afraid I'm a rank amateur." At that Lonett stood and once again walked down the wall as if it was nothing.

Her feet on solid ground once again, the ranger looked about to see if the Duke was anywhere near as she had a boon for him for the hospitality that he and his sister had extended to her and the other heroes in the party. Yet, oddly enough, the Duke was nowhere to be found. Strange! Lonett thought, approaching the former Duchess instead.

"Lady Ada." She began uneasily, lowering her mask. "I... I m-made something for you and your brother..." Lonett reached in her bag of holding once again. This time to withdraw the carving she'd produced last night before going to bed. She offered it to Ada almost timidly. "I-it's a small token of my gratitude f-for your hospitality." Lonett looked away, feeling immensely uncomfortable with the situation she'd put herself into. Why again had she decided to carve this as a gift to the Twin Dukes knowing all too well she would have to present it to one of them as a gift? Divna produced a quiet hooting sound that Lonett knew perfectly well was equivalent to laughter. Yeah, yeah, laugh at me why don't you! She commiserated. Well, at least I get to give it to the sister, rather than the brother. Lonett thought and immediately went crimson, looking even more uncomfortable if at all possible.

Safira snarled as Bernie let loose another dagger towards Warren and pommeled the chief bandit in the face without a second's hesitation. She heard Warren's pained grunt just as the butt of her scimitar was making devastating contact with Bernie's teeth. The brittle implements could not withstand the force behind the blood huntress' drive and a loud crack echoed within the camp. The lightning encasing her blade transferred via the hilt of her weapon and zinged the brigand’s skin, making all the hairs on his body stand. Safira observed with dark satisfaction as Bernie's eyes widened in shock.

"I said quiet, scum!" She growled. Her forehead came crashing down on Bernie's nose to get her point across more saliently. "Now yield!!!" Her voice burred low but ominous, as she watched the Captain of the bandits spit out tooth after tooth, his eyes watery from the headbutt he'd received. "All of you!" Safira menaced, squaring the two newcomers with a dark gaze.
