That would only work if you had miles upon miles of terrain in which to maneuver around to get the best advantage. When given a standardized map nature is never symmetrical, therefore never fair.

It could be completely symmetrical, although that would be boring (no more boring than flat land all the way through, though). Skill would be able to offset any minor terrain variations on a map. I could position myself and a hill and get devestated by a skilled opponent.

Personally, the best option for me would do multiple different matches with slight terrain variations each time and the more skilled player would still reveal themselves over time as they win more.
Most of the skill in war would come from using terrain to your advantage. It's only unfair if they spawn you closer to vital landmarks, but good maps can have plenty of hills and trees scattered around as long as one group isn't better and starting closer.

"Omg! Hax! No placing archers on hills! Arrrggghhhh!"
As a great man said "you are all newbs and I will pwn you".

Everything you say shall be read in Renge's voice as long as you have that avatar.

Listia watched as her ally in front of her began to storm off the rest of the way like a bat out of hell, or rather...a large armored man out of heaven? Within moments he had shove his massive frame through the door to reveal their opponents standing on the other side, who appeared to be taken slightly off guard by the sudden ferocity of his attack. There was now enough room for her to do something other than follow behind him, so she picked up her own pace into a controlled, brisk jog rather than an all out sprint that would be harder to correct herself if she ended up on the receiving end of an attack. However, her ally more than likely had their immediate attention and she was not yet in any danger of melee attacks until she closed the distance further.

The bad girl was currently trying to evade a swing, but that left the bad guy without as much pressure, so he was one to look out for at the moment. She checked to see if he would try any ranged attacks against either of them while she was running forward to assist. If he tried to attack big man then she'd call out a warning.
It looks like the two people that I was supposed to go up against have yet to show.

;_;

Your avatar matches your feelings.

Dunno, your character could just be waiting to see what happens before coming into the room, and therefore be removed from the immediate combat until this sequence ends.

I'll have her get to the top of the stairs.

No.

O_O

They don't have any ties to Roleplayer names of course. I tried getting a tie into with M.E.L.O.N. But NEVER GOT beyond 'Multiverse Elite Legionary'- bluh-bluh-bluh.

Those two organizations are mortal enemies.
I'm not a fan of nation RPs. I think I've been in a grand total of 3.

An arena based nation rp could work. Only focus on combat while building up small squads to fight for you. It's a fantasy world where the populations are small so the fights are manageable in arena format. Basically we'd be the generals and not the absolute dictators like how most nations work.

Enlightening.
The most interesting place I fought in was where neither my toon nor my opponent's could breath. I think I was going against either Melonhead or Important nobody. One of us won, and ended up having to drag the other outside of the cave. Fun times.

I remember being at least almost involved in the cave but didn't fight. Forgot what happened.
