This is inspired by an extremely interesting plot development in a currently airing anime called Rokka no Yuusha. The gist is that there's supposed to be six chosen heroes who get special markings on their body from the goddess, but seven people show up, meaning that one is a fake and likely out to destroy the others. Conspiracy theories ensue.

This seems like it would make an awesome roleplay where we use this premise yet change other stuff so we can add original ideas and not have to know about the anime. If you absolutely do not want to be the traitor then you can PM me, but otherwise, everyone who expresses interest in this idea will be part of the lottery to choose who is the traitor (as long as too many people don't show up). Even I won't know, which will be achieved by everyone entering a chatroom from chatzy with a username of a number 1 through 6 (or up to however many want to be involved instead up to a point), picking a number that hasn't been used yet, of course. I will randomly generate a number and tell the username of that number that they are the traitor. I will also have a number. As a fail safe, perhaps we could delegate someone outside of this roleplay to know who the traitor is by the traitor PMing them. If you are the traitor and quit before it's revealed, please tell us and we can assign a new traitor, considering any clues given beforehand as red herrings.

The roleplay is mystery and character driven (with some action thrown in for good measure) and will quite possibly have lots of character deaths as the traitor tries to thwart our plans. The roleplay ends when the traitor or the heroes are thwarted and a new roleplay can begin with a new traitor being assigned. If the traitor makes an attack against us then the battle would be done in a chatroom only visible to the involved parties, the link sent by the traitor in a PM. If the traitor wins then they decide on any evidence that would be revealed from their battle and the person who lost makes the post stating the possible evidence, leaving the game as one of the heroes but can still come in as another character who's not one of the heroes. If the traitor loses but isn't completely thwarted then they can be exposed in the IC and we try to take them out at that point.

The heroes in this story are the only ones who are supposed to be granted magical powers, each different person having a different theme to their magic. However, the traitor has also been gifted with magic by the dark spirit rather than the light spirit, which hasn't happened before so takes us off guard. The spirit is just a ball of light (or darkness) that shows up and contacts the chosen person briefly, a mark appearing on their skin where they were touched and them magic transferred into them. There may be other fantasy races involved than just humans. The spirits cannot interact much with the world at all other than this magic transfer every 10 years. The chosen ones keep their power for those 10 years and try to better the world with it somehow. At least in theory. This year they decide to use it to eliminate the evil overlord guy threatening the safety of the entire world, yet said guy has the dark spirit and the traitor on his side.
Yeah, that's fair enough. I'm still fairly certain the single strongest character archetype for Arena is a speedster with a powerful ranged attack.

That's what I'm missing. I have plenty of spots for new characters in order to remedy this situation.

Err...yes...I still need to finish up my last two male characters for their special week, first. I think I have earned the title of the master procrastinator. I can do it! Believe in myself!!!

It is hard enough doing a two vs. two, a five vs. five would take an VERY long time resulting in player drops through boredom/frustration.

I think that might be the reason my "you guys vs. 100 of mine" sort of failed. XD

It would be fun if I could get something like that to work but it would need some tweeking.
His opponent didn't make an effort to attack, only defend. This bought Raln more of the time that he needed to charge up the mist bullet in his hand until it reached max power five seconds later, now able to dent iron armor, and likely demolish trees as well. He didn't fire the attack yet, but instead came out from his hiding place behind the tree and advanced forwards until he was only ten feet away. He held his sword forward with the tip angled towards his opponent's upper chest. His left hand was positioned behind and to the left of his sword, held up at chest height as well, ready to fire the bullet past the sword at a moment's notice.

If his opponent did nothing to stop him he would now fire his bullet at him through whatever defense he'd try to use, striking his heart if things went his way. While the bullet was flying he'd also use this time to charge forward to take advantage of the chaos while he was dealing with the bullet, swinging his sword from right to left, horizontally across his neck, another possible death blow that would be happening within a second of the first.

However, if his opponent did something to threaten his own safety before this plan could be carried out then he'd possibly be forced to change gears to protect himself unless it seemed like the best defense would still be a good offense.
I was just joking. A character can assume it's a man for sure all they want. Of course all this "peering into his soul" type stuff, well, as melon said, such things should probably be negated by his armor.
Why does judgment have to be male? Does he have a conspicuous groin plate? XD
This is taking place in a multiverse so surely some women would get in his armor.

Clearly you don't disagree since you stated that apples being thrown by trees is different that an occasional haphazard melee attack. We are not talking about being slapped by a tree or something along those lines, we are talking about the disruptive influences having an impact on the fight.

I guess Rilla is the one taking it further. It seemed like you'd also be against environments being much of a factor at all, which would include things like trees that attack. Stuff like that would be based on player skill and strategy to manipulating your opponent into getting attacked by the environment. This is entirely different than an environment that spawns meteors to target people's faces or something, which doesn't involve player skill to get their opponent hit and truly would be the environment attacking you like an npc. I'd be fine with an occasional battle in such an environment but certainly not tournaments.
The Arena is a contest between two writers engaging in a form of mental chess. Inserting an X-factor, such as a dynamic battlefield that requires the fighters to fight that as well and which ultimately can result in a loss because of those dynamics, becomes a hindrance. The field should never be such a dominate factor in an arena fight that it can cause a loss.

I severely disagree, but we can just fight in the battles we feel comfortable with. No point in forcing you to fight in dynamic locations.
Trees slapping you is fair if your character has warning going into it, such as the trees taunting and leering at you. In that case it's up to skill to avoid them.them throwing apples at you would be a slightly different story because you'd have to constantly pay attention to them all, but melee attacks see fine to me.
