This is a remake of a thread I've done before (many, many (many) years ago).

The general premise of the thread is world that has been constantly ravaged by demons. People live primarily in a few larger cities protected by energy fields that prevent the demons from getting in. These fields are powered by crystals that are closely guarded by the theocratic government due to their use as a power source and in magecraft. There are a few smaller outposts and towns in areas, primarily for mining or farming. These are usually only reached by trains, which are heavily armored.

However, for those willing to brave the wild, barren expanse there is money and power to be had. Players can take on the roll of a demon/bounty hunter in this Western style fantasy.

Magecraft is generally very limited in scope without the usage of a crystal.

Most Demon Hunters use some kind of firearm. There is generally no limit to this, nor do you HAVE to use a gun (it is just more practical).

I appreciate the attempt to encourage me to get back into it, but I'm content being a judge for now (if desired). Maybe I'll someday return to combat. We shall see.
Innue I have done those things as well and have been burned out of combat as well. But here the asshattery is not as much and the people tend to resolve things in a much calmer way. I think that is why I hang out here to relax.

I know. I've been generally impressed with how the community has handled itself in this venue. Even though I haven't done any combat (for the sake of combat) in years, I still get stressed thinking about it.
<Snipped quote by Innue>

Would you like noncompetitive combat better?

No, I just don't want to go through the mental exhaustion of combat anymore. I learned combat in a particular environment that caused me a lot of extra stress. Then I sort of ran the combat community on another forum, which got pretty toxic for awhile because I was a moderator in conjunction. It sort of turned me off.

Just some background info on why you won't likely see me participate much, if at all.
We'll probably have a pool of set judges. If only to eliminate people trying to get they friends in as judges

This is wise.

I'm also probably going to largely avoid combat myself mostly because it has lost a lot of its allure to me (in terms of competitive combat). But I'd be glad to support the community in anyway I can.
I can assist in judging.
Maybe make it so tournament points (or a certain amount) are only for gambling and don't count towards point total, so if you can incentivize it with a lot of points without completely making it impossible in some cases for someone to catch up.
I vote yes.
Of course, the most complicated and debate inducing factor spitting in the face of any tier system is magic, and all its many unwholesome and impossible to categorize effects. What tier is a fireball? How about illusions? Is my assault rifle toting soldier equal to your fireball throwing mage? Who the hell knows.

This is partially why tier lists have irked me in the past - they try to account for all of these eventualities (and while I get why) and just making it messier and messier.

At some point it just has to be a judgment call of the individuals participating. Using a very simple system and then having people construct specific rules for their own individual battle that are then agreed upon is probably a good way to consider going.

I would have to agree with Melon on that.
