Shiranui was satisfied with just catching Kaki. He returned to the lobby and returned the leftover Safari Balls.

Shiranui was surprised to find a Charmander frolicking about. Having known about their species since his father had one, he offered a bit of bait and the Charmander took it. While it was eating, Shiranui gently tapped Charmander with a Safari Ball and the starter was drawn in. After a minute the ball pinged shut and Shiranui nicknamed his new friend Kaki.
Shiranui looked around, seeing if any of the population would pique his interest.
"Okay," replied Shiranui, now wondering what he could find there.
"Well, what would you like to do first?" Shiranui asked.
"Decisions, decisions…" Shiranui pondered, "The gym is closer, but the Safari Zone gives us the opportunity to get some more new friends."
"Such idle boasting," commented Shiranui to Liam, "Did he really think he could beat a tournament semi-finalist with a single Rattata?"
While the boat was sailing west, Shiranui was wondering what kind of Fighting-type Pokémon he would have to face.
Shiranui was ready at the dock and raring to take on the Cianwood Gym.
Shiranui nodded and promptly adjusted his party, making sure he had Onryou, Tachi and Kanki on his party for the gym; and Hitsuji, Sundan and Wani for any trainers that may challenge him.
