Shiranui checked his Pokémon in at the Pokémon Centre as quite a few of them were exhausted. He knew Grant would use Pokémon restored from fossils, but was wondering what ancient Pokémon were native to Kalos.
"I'm with you on that," Shiranui agreed, feeling lucky the Whismur he battled didn't cause a cave-in with their noise.
"It'll be a breeze for me," boasted Shiranui.
Shiranui encountered a horde of Whismur and sent Higitsune out to battle. "Higitsune, start with Ember on the far left!" The Fennekin breathed out some embers on the Whismur on the far left and scorched it into a knockout with a critical hit. Shiranui had to hold his ears as half the remaining Whismur used Uproar while the other half used Pound. The four-pronged attack inflicted major damage on Higitsune. Higitsune started to glow, shifting from a quadrupedal stance to a bipedal stance. The glow subsided to reveal a Braixen. Higitsune pulled his stick out of his tail and fired a bright iridescent beam of energy that knocked the Whismur on the far right out. Shiranui recognised the move as a Psybeam. One of the Whismur continued its Uproar while the other two started their own Uproar attacks. The loud discordant noise caused Higitsune to be on his last legs. "Higitsune, return; Hana, I choose you!" Shiarnui switched the exhausted Braixen for his Flabébé.
The Uproars continued and Hana got some major damage from the three-pronged attack. "Hana, Fairy Wind on the left Whismur!" The Flabébé let off a bright glow of her own, Hana's flower morphing into something like a parasol. The glow subsided to reveal a Floette that unleashed a Fairy Wind on the Whismur on the left, knocking it out in one hit. The last two Whismur continued with their Uproars and Hana was left exhausted. "Hana, return; Yoto, I choose you!" Shiranui switched out his Floette and pulled Yoto out of his sheath and threw the Honedge into the battle.
The Uproars continued, but Yoto was immune to the attacks. "Yoto, Swords Dance!" The Honedge performed a series of slashes that sharply increased his Attack. One Whismur started another Uproar while the other tried to use Pound, both attacks not affecting Yoto at all. "Yoto, use Pursuit on the Whismur on the right!" The Honedge did a charging thrust at the Whismur indicated and stabbed it into a knockout. The last Whismur continued its Uproar to no avail. "Yoto, finish the last Whismur off with a Pursuit!" The Honedge did a piercing thrust that stabbed the Whismur into a one-hit knockout. Shiranui breathed a sigh of relief as Yoto returned to his sheath, glad the noisy battle was over.

Shiranui wore a sceptical look on his face as he considered asking Oberon what was going on, knowing the Ralts could sense feelings. "We just have to keep heading west and go through a cave before reaching Cyllage City," he answered.
Shiranui caught up as well. "Are you feeling okay?" he asked.
"Agreed," replied Shiranui.
"What was that all about?" Shiranui inquired. He grew concerned about Ryan's strange behaviour.
"So this is the guy we need to defeat next," stated Shiranui, donning his cape and letting Yoto out to ride on his back.
