Shiranui finished his and placed it next to Liam's. "I'm done," he said. Ramos smiled as he took the empty tea cups away.

"This match will be a 3-on-3 single battle with no time limit. Only the challenger can substitute," the gym's referee stated, "Begin!"
"Go Jumpluff!"
"Honoh, I choose you!" Shiranui sent out his Talonflame against Ramos' Jumpluff.
"Jumpluff, the Cottonweed Pokémon and the fully evolved form of Hoppip. Jumpluff rides warm southern winds to cross the sea and fly to foreign lands. The Pokémon descends to the ground when it encounters cold air while it is floating."
"Jumpluff, Sunny Day!"
"Honoh, Flame Charge!" The Talonflame dived towards Jumpluff with his feathers on fire and struck it, gaining a boost in speed. Jumpluff made the sun shine brighter and Shiranui knew Jumpluff's abilities involved the sun. He saw how Jumpluff became from the sunlight and deduced it had the Chlorophyll ability.
"Jumpluff, Sleep Powder!"
"Honoh, Acrobatics!" Honoh put his Gale Wings ability to work and dove for Jumpluff again. Jumpluff tried to dodge the incoming attack, but Honoh struck home and because the Talonflame didn't have an item equipped, the attack knocked Jumpluff out in one hit.

"Impressive," Ramos commented, returning Jumpluff, "Let's see how your Talonflame handles my Weepinbell." Ramos sent out his next Pokémon and Shiranui scanned it.
"Weepinbell, the Flycatcher Pokémon and the evolved form of Bellsprout. It spits out Poison Powder to immobilize the enemy and then finishes it with a spray of Acid."
"Weepinbell, Poison Powder!"
"Honoh, return; Yoto, I choose you!" Shiranui returned his Talonflame and pulled the twin swords that was Yoto out from his back, throwing them into the battle. Yoto was covered in the powder that Weepinbell sprayed, but it had no effect on the Doublade.
"Weepinbell, Grass Knot!"
"Yoto, Aerial Ace!" A knot of grass came up and one of Yoto's swords hit it and fell to the ground, but it was only a light tap to the Doublade. One sword made a feint and Weepinbell fell for it before the other sword struck it for heavy damage.
"Weepinbell, Razor Leaf!"
"Yoto, Gyro Ball!" Weepinbell sent leaves flying at Yoto that struck a critical blow, but despite that the Doublade did not receive much damage. The swords came together—one sword at a right angle to the other—and started spinning really fast like a circular saw. Using Weepinbell's Chlorophyll ability against it, Yoto slashed Weepinbell with a coup de grâce, knocking it out.

"Your Doublade's strong, but can it defeat my Gogoat?" Ramos asked as he switched his Weepinbell for his Gogoat. Shiranui scanned it.
"Gogoat, the Mount Pokémon and the evolved form of Skiddo. It can tell how its Trainer is feeling by subtle shifts in the grip on its horns. This empathic sense lets them run as if one being."
"Gogoat, Leech Seed!"
"Yoto, Fury Cutter and keep at it until I instruct otherwise!" Gogoat launched a seed at Yoto and one of the swords was covered in energy-sapping vines, but it was enough to render the Doublade seeded. The non-seeded sword sneaked up on Gogoat and struck the mount with a weak blow while it was focused on the seeded sword. The heavy sunlight subsided and Yoto felt a bit of his energy get sapped.
"Gogoat, Razor Leaf!" Gogoat sent out two leaves and both struck Yoto for minor damage. Yoto slashed Gogoat for major damage with another Fury Cutter.
"Gogoat, Vine Whip!" This time, Gogoat let out a couple of vines that whipped both swords for minor damage. Yoto was starting to get exhausted, but with one more Fury Cutter the swords slashed Gogoat again. The hit was critical and Gogoat fell over, knocked out.

Yoto went back to Shiranui and the latter sheathed the two swords as Ramos came over. "For defeating me in battle, I award you the Plant Badge," he said, congratulating Shiranui.
"Thanks Ramos," Shiranui replied.
"I feel like I'm back at Ecruteak," Shiranui commented after accepting a cup of tea.
"What is Ecruteak like?" Ramos asked, curious about Shiranui's home town.
"Ecruteak City in Johto is where you can experience the culture of the Far East to its fullest," answered Shiranui, sounding somewhat like a travel agent.
"Fascinating," Ramos remarked, "As soon as we're all done, we can get to why you're all here in the first place."
"I do as a matter of fact," Ramos replied, "He always used to stop here for a cup of tea whenever he was in the area and tell me about his research."
"In that case, I'll be first," said Shiranui as he thought of which Pokémon he'd use. He was astounded to see that the gym was a giant tree located just outside the city proper.

When he got to the top of the tree, he saw the battlefield as well as an old man that would have passed as someone from his home town of Ecruteak City tending to a garden. "You must be exhausted from the climb," the old man stated, "Come and have a nice cup of tea. I'm Ramos, the leader of this gym."
Shiranui got his healed as well.
Shiranui carefully sheathed Yoto. "I'm not complaining," he replied.
Shiranui made his way as well and when he caught up with Ryan, a bright glow issued from his back. Shiranui noticed it was Yoto evolving when he saw the Honedge's cloth glow. When the glow subsided, Shiranui noticed two purple and yellow ribbons waving at him. He pulled out his Pokédex and scanned Yoto. "Doublade, the Sword Pokémon and the evolved form of Honedge. The complex attack patterns of its two swords are unstoppable, even for an opponent greatly accomplished at swordplay."
"Well, look at you, Yoto," Shiranui remarked, pulling the two swords out and holding them in both his hands, "You have a twin now." He could tell the two swords apart from the fact only one of the ends of their hilts was pointy.
"I can't think of anything either," added Shiranui.
"Hang on, isn't this place famous for its dairy products?" Shiranui asked, remembering reading on the Baa de Mer Ranch beforehand.
"This region never ceases to amaze me," Shiranui answered.
