Pokémon Hoenn: α and Ω

Unlike before, Shiranui was not decked out in full ninja gear. Instead he was dressed like a surfer from Seafoam Island. "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Zoro the Illusionist!" Shiranui opened Zoro's Great Ball and a Zoroark materialised. "Let's take a dive into the wonders of the big blue! Zoro, Night Daze!" A dome of dark energy surrounded Zoro and was unleashed. Everyone else was unharmed as the dome surrounded the whole contest and within the dome Zoro conjured an illusion of a coral reef setting with the furniture turning into land formations. The Zoroark himself took on the guise of a Staryu. "Double Team!" Zoro moved back and forth, creating multiple Staryu copies. "Hidden Power!" The Staryu copies spun around with their centre jewels glowing and balls of red light appeared at the tips of their limbs as they spun around the underwater setting and formed into a ring. The real Zoro spun through the centre of the ring and fired his Hidden power at the copies, making them vanish with an explosion of red sparkles. The Night Daze was dispelled and with it the underwater illusion as Zoro dropped his disguise, signifying the end of the appeal. The audience cheered and Shiranui and Zoro both took a bow before facing the judges.

"For a while I thought I was really underwater!"
"Your illusions are remarkable!"
"Those illusions are a great sight to behold."

Shiranui took his time to train for the contest by fishing. He landed a Staryu and had Zoro battle it. The Zorua dodged a Bubble Beam and landed a Dark Pulse. "Poké Ball, go!" Shiranui threw a Poké Ball and the Staryu was drawn in. After three shakes, the ball pinged a successful capture. "You'll do well, Hoshi," Shiranui said before noticing a bright glow. He saw Zoro growing from a quadrupedal fox to a tailless bipedal fox with a big mane of fur. Zoro was now a Zoroark. "Way to go, Zoro!" Shiranui congratulated, knowing what Zoro was capable of now.

"Lucky us," commented Shiranui, registering for the contest.

Shiranui boarded the ferry.

Shiranui made his way over to the port.

"Well, Mr. Briney is right over at the port," replied Shiranui, "He'll get us to Slateport in five shakes of a Mareep's tail."

"Once we dock at Slateport City, it'll still be a bit of a trek up Route 110 before we reach Mauville City," Shiranui added. He saw the way Khuda battled and knew she could be a tough opponent.

Shiranui was next to challenge Brawly. After hearing the recital familiar to every gym, Brawly sent Machop out. "Kinoko, I choose you!" Shiranui sent his Shroomish out.
"Begin!" called the official.
"Machop, Bulk Up!"
"Kinoko, Leech Seed!" Machop's muscular body piled on more muscle, boosting its physical stats before Kinoko fired a seed. The seed struck home and Machop was ensnared by vines that started sapping its energy away. Kinoko's Toxic Orb activated, leaving the Shroomish badly poisoned, but thanks to her Poison Heal ability, was not fazed by the poison.
"Machop, Karate Chop!"
"Kinoko, Mega Drain!" Machop demonstrated some martial arts movements before delivering a swift karate chop to Kinoko. Kinoko drained more energy away from Machop and healed back half the energy drained away plus more from the poison and the Leech Seed.
"Impressive combination you have there, Shiranui," commented Brawly, "Machop, Seismic Toss!"
"Kinoko, finish it off with Mega Drain!" This time, Kinoko was first to act as she drained more energy away. Machop barely survived the attack, but Shiranui knew it would not take long for Machop to fall. Machop grabbed Kinoko, jumped high into the air and body slammed her to the ground. The Leech Seed drained away the last of Machop's energy and the martial artist was down for the count.

"Machop, return; go Hariyama!"
"Kinoko, return; Gimansha I choose you!" Both battlers switched their Pokémon. In Shiranui's case he sent his Mawile out.
"Hariyama, Sand Attack!"
"Gimansha, Taunt! Mega Ring activate!" Shiranui activated the keystone on his Mega Ring and an orb of energy surrounded Gimansha. The orb shattered to reveal a Mega Mawile that made a come-hither motion, causing Hariyama's attack to fail.
"Hariyama, Arm Thrust!"
"Gimansha, Play Rough!" The Mega Mawile started pouncing about and playing roughly with Hariyama. Hariyama barely survived the experience and managed to deliver a salvo of arm thrusts that were little more than glancing blows.
"Hariyama, Vital Throw!"
"Gimansha, Bite!" Gimansha looked cutely at Hariyama and at the right time, bit down with both her steel jaws, knocking Hariyama out.
