"Both of you, Protect!" Niwatori adopted a defensive stance and Fushigi braced himself while they both conjured green shields.

"Niwatori, give Jiraiya a Sky Uppercut; Fushigi, use Toxic on Sceptile!" Niwatori charged at Jiraiya at triple his normal speed while Fushigi launched a gob of toxic slime at Sceptile.

"Niwatori, Agility; Fushigi, give Jiraiya a Worry Seed!" Niwatori relaxed his body and started flitting to various places, dodging the seeds and boosting his Speed. Fushigi fired a seed at one of the Jiraiyas, intending to change the Greninja's ability and lock it to one type.

Shiranui was not fazed by the multiple Greninja and Sceptile. "Fushigi, Niwatori, use your Pledges! Mega Ring activate!" He activated his Mega Ring and Niwatori let off a glow as he Mega Evolved. Fushigi showed off his Grass Pledge and Niwatori added a Fire Pledge, setting the battlefield on fire.

"Fushigi, Niwatori, I choose you!" Shiranui sent his Venusaur and Blaziken out.

After Liam and Drew had their battle, it was now time for May and Shiranui to face each other. "Gimansha, Kumo, I choose you!"
"Glaceon, Wartortle, take the stage!" Shiranui sent out his Mawile and Ariados and May sent her Glaceon and Wartortle out.
"Begin!" Vivian called.
"Glaceon, Ice Fang at Ariados; Wartortle, Aqua Tail at Mawile!"
"Gimansha, Stockpile; Kumo, Electroweb at Wartortle!" Both of May's Pokémon charged in to attack. Glaceon gave Kumo a chilly bite and Wartortle whacked Gimansha with its wet tail. Gimansha charged her power, boosting both her Defense stats and Kumo spat an electrified silky net at Wartortle, ensnaring it and slowing it down. Both coordinators lost points with May losing a bit more than Shiranui.
"Glaceon, Helping Hand; Wartortle, Water Pulse at Ariados!"
"Kumo, give Glaceon a Scary Face; Gimansha, Iron Head at Glaceon! Mega Ring activate!" Shiranui activated his Mega Ring and Gimansha wowed the audience with her Mega Evolution. Glaceon lent Wartortle some of its power before getting whacked by both sets of Gimansha's jaws, barely surviving the hit. Kumo made a scary face and Glaceon froze up at the sight. Some of the arachnophobic members of the audience were scared as well. Wartortle blasted Kumo with a pulsing blast of water and the Ariados was confused as a result.
"Glaceon, Avalanche at Ariados; Wartortle, Hydro Pump at Mawile!"
"Gimansha, Play Rough with Glaceon; Kumo, X-Scissor at Wartortle!" The Mega Mawile roughhoused with Glaceon. leaving it knocked out. Kumo crossed her front legs and gave Wartortle a critical X-shaped swipe. The Ariados' Sniper ability gave her the power boost she needed to knock Wartortle out. The judges' screens showed crosses and Shiranui advanced to the grand final.

Shiranui's next opponent was Wallace—a coordinator he had faced not that long before. Wallace sent out a Sealeo and a Seaking and Shiranui sent out Manectric and Kinoko. "Sealeo, Aurora Beam at Breloom; Seaking, Waterfall at Manectric!"
"Manectric, Charge; Kinoko, Spore at Sealeo!" Manectric charged its power while Kinoko unleashed a cloud of spores at Sealeo, causing the seal to fall asleep. Seaking charged at Manectric with the speed used to climb waterfalls and nailed her for some damage. Sealeo didn't wake up and Wallace lost more points than Shiranui.
"Sealeo, Frost Breath at Breloom; Seaking, Horn Drill at Manectric!"
"Manectric, give Seaking a Thunder attack; Kinoko, Mind Reader!" Manectric created a thunderhead above the battlefield and Seaking was struck by lightning, knocking it out in one hit. Kinoko started sensing Sealeo's movements, ensuring her next attack would not miss. Sealeo remained fast asleep and Wallace's points took a big hit.
"Sealeo, Blizzard!"
"Kinoko, give Sealeo a Dynamic Punch; Manectric, Electro Ball! Mega Ring activate!" Shiranui activated his Mega Ring and the light from Manectric's Mega Evolution added to her appeal. Manectric conjured an orb of electricity and fired it at Sealeo, electrocuting the seal. Kinoko charged in and delivered a devastating punch that knocked Sealeo out. All five judges had crosses on their screens and Shiranui advanced to the semi-final.

Shiranui used Zoro and Kinoko to defeat his opponent's Gengar and Ambipom.

Shiranui used Honoh the Talonflame and Sunakaba—now a Hippowdon—to beat a Venomoth and a Magnezone.

"Now, it's time for contestant #17! From Ecruteak City, Kalos Champion Shianui Tsukiko!" The crowd cheered loudly for Shiranui as he came out on stage.
"Titania, dazzle us with your presence!" Shiranui's Gardevoir came out and uttered a dulcet cry. "Set the scene with Trick Room!" Titania conjured a zone around the stage that consisted of a forest at night. "Add a Moonblast and a Misty Terrain to the mix!" Titania fired a blast of moonlight into the sky that formed into a full moon while conjuring a Misty Terrain to add some mysticism to the scene. "Finish with a Captivating Disarming Voice! Mega Ring activate!" Shiranui activated his Mega Ring and Titania let off a glow as she mega evolved. After the Mega Evolution was complete, the Mega Gardevoir turned up the charm and let out a cry that wowed the audience. Shiranui stepped in and completed the Shakespearean scene by kneeling before Titania. Both he and Titania bowed to the audience after the scenery disappeared and the audience cheered, some of which gave them a standing ovation.

"The misty forest alone was brilliantly executed, but you have turned it up a few notches."
"I could relax listening to your Gardevoir's dulcet voice."

Titania gave Shiranui an embrace after seeing her score before the duo went back to the green room. "Battle round, here we come!" he said to no-one in particular.
