They've gone the Gen-V route with two sequels and the mascot legendaries fused with the third member of the trio (I may be wrong). The fact these two games are coming out a single year after Sun and Moon tells me they appear to be in salvage mode.
Shiranui saw Zerina's plaster and was concerned for its effect on the Charizard's performance. "I hope Sashia knows what she's up against," Shiranui mused, "Goodra's horn punches would be lethal if they were aimed for Zerina's head." His own Goodra had been sent out to watch her mate battle and impress the audience.
Shiranui recalled his defeated Starmie. "Don't sweat it, Sashia," he assured, hearing the judges' buzzers go off nearby, "You have the time to get Zerina healed up and ready to take on Liam's Goodra."
"Counter with Rollout!" Hoshi swooped down at Zerina, spinning like a living shuriken; and when the battlers' attacks connected, the stage was covered in a cloud of dust. Shiranui saw in the midst of the dust a pulsating red light coming from the stage floor, indicating the Starmie was knocked out. He didn't know if Hoshi's Rollout attack was enough to defeat a Mega Charizard Y through exploiting a double weakness.
"Set the stage with Cosmic Power and use Double Team to form a constellation!" Hoshi used Cosmic Power to turn the Trick Room's ceiling into an outer space setting with Zerina's Sunny Day being a part of it, boosting its defences in the process. The Starmie made several copies, flew up to the ceiling and formed the constellation of Canis Major with the sun from Sunny Day as the Dog Star.
"Hoshi, use that light for a Flash Cannon/Power Gem combination!" Hoshi's core glowed an orange colour as the Starmie took in the sunlight and fired a laser beam from its core.
