@needlingAsklepioshave you ever done anything with the pokemon mystery dungeon series? Occasionally I will be supplying missions which will be more open area for you all to try and complete a task and at the same time are free to wander around catching and battling.

On the other hand there are times where the plot will be far more tense and important that you'll be needed for certain events. An example that won't happen, but is the same kind of idea is a massive wildfire breaks out around the town, and you all have to find a way to protect the town AND the forest. There are some groups that aren't exactly great people, but the one closest to a true antagonist isn't really that big. They are sizable, but no massive army ready to charge in.

But there are in a sense Gyms. Every trainer base (one per city) will communicate with others, and it's known to happen that a trainer or two will practice against other trainers from other towns to share experiences/skills. If we go to another town and up to three players (in which case it's a 3v3 battle) could take on the local trainers for a friendly match. This would not be the focus, but rather something for people to do, and a possible side plot for ONE character. I don't want to see a bunch doing EVERY trainer battle, but if one person wants to have that as a side goal they can.

As for me since this group is looking good and big I'll be the Trainer Head aka your commanding officer, MAGGOT! joking aside I have a good old character to pull out for this. His starter is a Treeko, but it's a Sceptile now. Jaklo specializes in the local pokemon (as you might expect), and has a collection all from the area:

Sceptile, Yanso
Kabutops, Pierce
Braviary, Walt
Absol, Eli
Tediursa, Dalton
Buizel, Baron
Scolipede, Visp

BUT he also has pokemon from the urban areas. These regions are dangerous of course since they are the crumbling ruins of old society, but certain pokemon have moved in there:

Nidorino, Pax
Magneton, Vop
Haunter, Plasim
Houndoom, Riff
@needlingAsklepios Well mind you this versatility is the best attribute for pokemon here, but hey think on it.
@needlingAsklepios Experienced, but low rank. The trainers have a basic ranking system of Oak, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master. The trainer head of the starting town is only Gold. Everyone is Bronze or lower for players.

The thing about starters is I want them to all be local pokemon. No one will start with spheal sorry. Yes I could see ralts here so that'd be fine probably. If I use them then I want them to add to setting. I may end up just listing those that are not allowed in the end. Really the other main thing about picking starters is it can make people try something new. I used to ONLY use charmander when in an RP with that as an option. Then I got stuck with squirtle once and the story was legendary.

So let me propose a challenge to you sir. get that ralts later. start with a pokemon who you'd never think of using as your starter.
@needlingAsklepios Well unless you are catching it late game you are likely getting a ralts. I'm still mulling over starting pokemon, but that's TBA. For now just know you could probably get a ralts close to the start.
@Redrum That's fine I'm going to be busy is the same time span actually. I have my last big paper due on the 5th, so this week has been nuts already. I probably won't start us until after the 5th since I'm still feeling out what would be best with you guys.

As for plot I tend to find that it works better when I get to remain as the Trainer Head. It's so much harder to keep suspense when my character clearly knows everything. Luckily with the numbers we are seeing so far it's rather likely I'll be able to step back and control the world more than I have to control a single character. A lot of the plot will revolve around trying to keep the peace in the town. Stable is a very rare word in this world in either a physical or mental sense. There will be some more plot heavy areas and lean areas for you all to drive yourselves in, but I do think that "The Plot" is strong in that I've tried to really bring this town together. Everyone is someone's kid. You've all lived in the same place for years, and that's not changing anytime soon (you hope). This is a community, a family, but even a family can collapse in on itself.

@needlingAsklepios Plenty of room. I'd probably even let in at most three after you.
@Wade Wilson yes. sorry.
@Izuriel Steam@c3p-0h@Redrum@fer1323

Running a quick poll here. I'd like everyone's favorite type and what you are looking for out of this RP. Just want to pick some brains.
@Wade Wilsonsorry in that time I found other things. a month is a long time to wait for me these days.
this puts us at 4 to 6 based on how you look at it. @OneWayOut just double checking if since the setting is not space, but still on earth if you are still interested.
@Dynamo Frokane still down to what my schedule allows. The next 9 days are way too full. And 2 weeks until fallout 4 which will steal my life.
