Bio

Greetings,

I am Jb; Briton by birth, roleplayer by my own hand, and lover of literature. I am also an amateur historian, a receiver of a Bachelors degree in Ancient and Medieval History - quite a useless degree, actually - and would like to think that I'm a fair, honest and open guy.

As far as RP'ing goes, I'm pretty open to most things really, all you need to do is ask! :)

So, if you've ever any questions for me, wish to speak about RP's involving myself or run by myself, or simply feel like a chat, don't be afraid to get in touch.

@gcoldGood spotting there, all is now corrected and well with the world.
@CandiBarrMy sincerest thanks, Candi, and that is unfortunate to hear! If you ever find that your limit is not so suddenly limited, well, you know where to find me. :)

Let's get right to it!

This RP will be taking place just after the fall of Roma to Alaric and his Goths, we - the people - will be taking on the role of survivors from both sides of the conflict I.E. You could be just an average Roman citizen, you could be an invading Goth, a Hunnic mercenary who has tagged along with the migrating Goths as they seek out land to settle.

Once the general sacking and escaping is over, once everyone has congregated somewhere through the weavings of fate, that is when the plot and decision-making gets a little more thrust into the hands of the players.

Will you become a band of wandering beggars? Perhaps you've enough warriors to form something of a mercenary cadre, selling your services to a highest bidder and the like? Maybe you decide to get out of the conflict altogether, heading for Britannia and possibly more than you bargained for?

The choices are really only limited by the dedication of the players, your imagination, and only possibly by your historical knowledge. I will be able to help on the last point, the other two you must work on yourselves.

Lastly, I intend to make this RP grittier than a girit sandwich made of gritty bread and filled with grit!

You can expect scenes that some viewers may find distrubing, and thus this will be a 'mature' RP, but you can also expect clashes of religion, ideology, different thought processes and more.

If anyone is interested, and I am hoping you will be, do not be put off by a lack of knowledge in the period, of technical terms and dusty Latin, or by the fact that this is in the 'advanced' section. I'm open to any and all comers (regardless of gender etc) - although quality over quantity posts are what I'd prefer.

Interest - yes, no, maybe?
@Sinerathin Weeeeel, I pretty much know everything I need to know, so I'm a little unsure what I could post to be honest.

Predator: Young Bloods

A Yautja RP

This RP is now accepting players

Summary:

- A jaunt of gore, trophies and honour within the 'Alien vs Predator' universe and setting.

- I will immediately reject any God-like beings or over the top characters.

- Blood and gore come with the territory – they collect trophies, after all – so if you're squeamish, then best to remain far away.

- Our tale takes place in the year 2386 AD, five years after the events of Alien Resurrection; the USM continue to send out colonists, the Xenomorph species continues to thrive, and the Yautja (because I refuse to call them Hish) continues to hunt.

- Each Predator is different, and most within this RP shall be so-called Young Bloods I.E. Adolescent male (or female) Yautja out on their first hunt/in the process of their trial to join the bloodied hunters.

- Character sheets will be accepted based on merit alone, not 'first come first serve'; the more odd/powerful your character, the more exceptional your character sheet will need to be.

- The tale shall begin on a former United Systems world, a place overrun by the Xenomorphs and, of course, somewhere that the Predator is certainly likely to go. If you have any idea(s) of your own that might spice things up, please feel free to talk to me, though I make no promises that said idea(s) shall be implemented into the RP.

- I fully expect, and intend, for characters to evolve over time during this RP. Character sheets will then be edited to show any changes, as with a TT role-playing game, and just remember that every action will likely have some form of reaction.

In Character Info:

“Predator culture in general is based on the concept of The Hunt. Whereas humans on earth were agrarian, the Predators never stayed in just one place. Their culture revolves around the concept of hunting and stalking prey. Very similar to a pack mentality, the strongest and most efficient member of the Clan is the leader. This alpha male controls the actions of the group.

The Predators appear to value other predatory species as the most challenging targets - this would also explain their preference for hunting humans, another highly successful predatory species. As a rite of passage into adulthood, each young male Predator trained for the hunt (YOUNG BLOOD class) must hunt and kill his first 'ultimate prey' -- these creatures are commonly known to humans as Xenomorphs or Aliens.

Failure in the Trial means death, while success means the Unbloodied Predator is marked on the forehead with the acidic blood of a Xenomorph, making them BLOODED class. This mark is both a symbol of respect, and a sign of membership of a certain Clan - each mark is unique to a particular Clan, and used only by this group. This symbol may be used to mark and identify a Clan spacecraft as well as ceremonial items, and is usually inscribed on the hunter's helmet in addition to adorning the Young Blood's forehead. Hunters who have held this title for an acceptable length of time are known simply as BLOODED hunters.

Young Bloods are full of ambition and pride once they have collected their first trophy - the skull of their kill.

While they may seem ruthless or brutal, the Predator warrior's behaviour is actually controlled by a code of ethics. This code appears similar to human warriors codes such as Bushido and chivalry in that it promotes bravery, martial skill, and loyalty to the pack. Most Predator will not hunt or attack a creature it considers "weak" or non-threatening. When the Predator encounter their prey's females or young, they often spare them, considering it dishonourable to shed the blood of those who cannot defend themselves.

The Predator WARRIOR class are those who adhere to these beliefs and codes. The Warriors become solo hunters that use their high technology and travel the universe to find honourable hunting. When a member of another species shows a great honour, there has been a mutual respect - but a Warrior would consider this a worthy trophy.

The Predator Elder caste are more reasonable. Elders are the greatest Predator that have ever lived - having survived a thousand hunts - and they consider honoured fighters of other species as respected as their own kin. Elders have often let warriors of other species live after they have proven themselves honoured warriors. This usually only occurs if the subject has killed a Predator or fought alongside in battle. There is also a common practice in these cases to maintain honour, by exchange of trophies on both sides.”

Out of character info:

Welcome, one and all,

There will be one Elder, and that shall be myself, orchestrating and directing the hunt - likely from a Mother Ship in orbit/landed somewhere - and I might let some take the role as bloodied Predators, in a more on-the-ground role as mentors to the younger hunters.

Please note that this will be a 'high casual/low advanced' role-play, posts of decent length (at least two paragraphs) as well as being preferably spell-checked and containing detail within them. Like most, I do not expect a novel - although if you wish to write one, that's fine! - but I do expect a decent grasp of English and grammar. Not perfect, but readable.

The details of the Yautja will be from the comics, films and books, but clearly not the cross-over comics; I'll also allow female Yautja, and...if the CS is damned good, might consider adopted humans as well. The latter is unlikely, but possible.

To begin with, we shall all be aboard the Mother Ship and preparing for the Hunt; this should give everyone time to briefly describe the character of their...character...as well as just getting in some leisurely first posts. We'll then head to the planet, and thus the Hunt begins!

I expect everyone will have some small knowledge of the Predator/Yautja Universe, but for those that might lack a little, I have always found these sites to be some of the best places to look:

jokerdesigns.com/thehunted/index.php

aliens.wikia.com/wiki/Yautja

avp.wikia.com/wiki/Yautja_(Predator)

Just make certain that the information has a source, otherwise it is very likely fan made and therefore not canon.

Rules

- Sort your squabbles out in private. If you persistently disagree with another player or they're grieving you, involve me. If necessary, I will get the moderators involved.

- No godmodding (controlling someone else's character).

- Try to post at least once a week, let me know if you can't post soon, and please try for at least three paragraphs.

- One character per player.

- My decisions are final.

Character Sheet

Please submit your character sheets by TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13th. Post them in a hider in a comment in the OOC tab, NOT the Character tab. I'll also accept people editing the sheet if they feel it will improve it – just make sure you get the basics down first.

Name: Your character's name. Feel free to give them a Yautja name and an English translation, if you like...or just give it in English.

Age: Most adolescent Yautja will be in their early hundreds, so bear that in mind.

Gender: Male or female.

Clan: Feel free to create your own, I'm not going to make everyone be part of the same clan.

Class/Caste: Every character, unless requested and accepted to a different class by myself, is beginning as an Young Blood; means generally little hunting experience (certainly none against Xenomorphs) and basic armament AKA close-quarter weapons - plasma casters, discs and the like are all no-no's for the moment.

Appearance: A written description of your character's appearance. No pictures. Please include here any weapons they may have, and any armour or clothing as well; I'd advise browsing the websites I've given links to first.

Here is where you can make your character distinctive - what does their bio-mask look like? Do they have any signifying markings/wounds/etc? Do they prefer to carry bladed weapons over projectiles? Etc.

Personality: What kind of Yautja is your character, what are their motivations etc, and how do they interact with others?

History: A sketch of your character's life and history, preferably until their arrival on the Mother Ship. Give me three solid paragraphs, at least, please.

Skills: What skills/specialisations do they possess in particular, how did they come by them, what have they used/been using them for?

Equipment: What do they bring with them/carry on their person? Be sensible when deciding, as weight and wealth are both an issue.

Miscellaneous: Anything you want to mention but haven't been able to cover yet.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Age of Mythology

My soul is wrought to sing of forms transformed to bodies new and strange! Immortal Gods inspire my heart, for ye have changed yourselves and all things you have changed! Oh lead my song in smooth and measured strains, from olden days when earth began to this completed time!

"In the Age of Antiquity, when Greece was the light of civilisation and Rome was nought but a village in the Italian peninsula, all else was a dark place full of mystery and wonder. The surrounding lands were full of barbarians and blood-thirsty enemies, or so it was said.

Yet in this time, above all others, the gods directed the fates of their people and demi-gods walked the earth. Legends such as Herakles and Theseus, and before them those of the ilk of Akhilles, Odysseus and Pelops.

Now is the time when great legends are forged and mythology written by those who were there or the most imaginative of writers afterwards, it is a place where magic is not entirely extinguished and where a mere mortal may change the fate of the world if the gods do will it."

Genre:

The quasi-historical, yet strangely fantastical, world of Archaic Europa and the Orient; think Homer - and thus the Iliad/Odessey - or think Xena: Warrior Princess, or the classic Jason and the Argonauts film (still good!) And you should get an idea of what I'll be going for with this.

The Setting:

This RP is set in the ancient past of our own world, shrouded in mystery by the fog of time and yet set in stone by the beliefs of our forefather.

Here is a world of which Greece, not yet a nation but more a collection of city-states (poleis), is the very centre and from it comes most of the information of the 'known world' at the time. It is a time filled with the fantastical - the centaur and the Hydra, the Gorgons and Pergasus - of exotic lands like the island of Circe, or the oriental powers of the East, seen by the Greeks as effeminate and decadent.

It is RP set in the wild lands of fantastical Ancient Greece and the known world surrounding it.Here be monsters of legend, both of the human type and the more mythological type, but here also are great legends ready to be made through the rush of combat and the skill of their diplomacy.

I shall begin, if it is alright with all those interested, by gathering together a crew for a vessel - in classical Argonauts style - before setting off on our adventure(s). There shall be no demi-gods here, so don't even think of it, but mortal men possessed of keen intellect, keener blades, and maybe a unique skill or two.

Think Odessey rather than Iliad, Argonauts rather than Twelve Labours...

This is not to say that there won't be challenges of that ilk found within, indeed I intend to shove a Hydra or a few Centaurs in here-and-there, it simply means that no-one (yet...) would be able to massacre them without help and a good deal of planning.

Esssntially we are dealing with the Greek Heroic Age, probably post-Troy but pre-Classical. This can helped be decided by you, the player.

Things of Note - Please Read

    - This setting is during the fuzzy grey area between the Archaic period and the Classical Greek period, a time of gods coming to Earth to help or hinder mortals, and of great demi-gods like Herakles and Perseus. There will be no specific date given though.

    - The Gods are an important part of this RP and, while no-one shall be able to RP as one, any player would be wise to keep them appeased and on their side. Those who lose the favour of, or displease, the gods should probably take cover.

    - You do not need to be a historian to RP here, and I'll be around to assist anyone that might have any questions or problems.

    - Be inventive! Your character can come from almost anywhere in the ancient world, as long as they have a reason, and will most probably possess a set of skills that make them stand out from the common day men or women.

    - The group will travel by sea, mount or walking, so you may want to see this as a good time for character interaction and development.

    - There will be no true magic; what I meant by this is that 'magic' will be very much to do with ritual, worthy sacrifice, and whether the gods are listening to your plea. There'll be no wizards shooting fireballs or anything like that.

    - Writing requirements would be somewhere around 'low advanced - high casual'; I don't expect novels from anyone, and will readily allow a few mistakes here and there, but you need to be able to string a paragraph together.

Character Sheet

Please submit your character sheets by TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13th. Please PM the completed sheet to me first, and after I have approved it you may post it into the Character tab of this thread.

Name: Your character's name. A pretty obvious one, so enough said, just please attempt to keep them IC - no Greeks named Erasmus Johansson, or Keltoi named Hanz Esponensa.

Age: Obvious.

Gender: Obvious.

Origin: Are they a Kelt, a Greek etc etc? Could you also please, if Greek/Hellenic, include their city-state of birth I.E. Athens, Argos, Korinth and so on. If you're a non-Greek then feel free to do that as well - include your city/town/village of birth- might just be a wee bit harder for barbaroi

Religion: To what God(s) do they pray, if to any at all? Atheism was rare in the Ancient World, but still existed.

Appearance: A written description of your character's appearance. No pictures. Please include here any weapons they may have, and any armour or clothing as well.

Personality: What kind of person is your character, what are their motivations etc, and how do they interact with others?

History: A sketch of your character's life and history up to the point of arriving in Greece, which is where we shall begin our questing; give me three solid paragraphs, at least, please.

Skills: What skills do they possess, how did they come by them, what have they used/been using them for?

Equipment: What do they bring with them/carry on their person? Be sensible when deciding, as weight and wealth are both an issue.

Miscellaneous: Anything you want to mention but haven't been able to cover yet.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Predators are rad - you sure got that part right!

Got a good group here, so I'll wait for maybe another one or two folks and then I'll 'get this party started' so to speak.
@Sep Is it because we're all exactly where you'd want us to be once the trap is sprung? Or that you assuredly know our weaknesses? Or that you have discovered how and when you'll be killing us off one-by-one?

Just spitballin' here.
