Bio

Greetings,

I am Jb; Briton by birth, roleplayer by my own hand, and lover of literature. I am also an amateur historian, a receiver of a Bachelors degree in Ancient and Medieval History - quite a useless degree, actually - and would like to think that I'm a fair, honest and open guy.

As far as RP'ing goes, I'm pretty open to most things really, all you need to do is ask! :)

So, if you've ever any questions for me, wish to speak about RP's involving myself or run by myself, or simply feel like a chat, don't be afraid to get in touch.

@ClocktowerEchos In short, no. I'm out atm, but I can explain further when I get home.
@Hank Oh, forgot to say, I like it. Rock on.
@Quinntessential That is amaaaazing! I looking forward to the write up. :)

@BCTheEntity With all due respect, and as cool as that idea is, who in there right or wrong mind would ever hire him? Or let him be part of their group?

Hallucinations, fine. A psyker? Probably fine. But a comrade who may potentially burst into a daemon? Nicht so gut my friend.

I'd like to hear what others think though, so, who's got an opinion here?
It should also give you a great feel of the kind of plots and characters you can use in a setting like this since we'll essentially be playing the typical enemies of an Inquisitor.

Well, not exactly; if you mean in terms of who they are, then yea, but if you mean in other ways...well...we're guns-for-hire, might even end up working with an Inquisitor.

The plots etc will be different, simply because we're not a bunch of Rogue Traders or Inquisitorial Agents AKA The Usual Suspects. Then again, our tasks mighr range from the similarly small-scale (grab and bag task) to a much larger scale (helping to fight off a Chaos invasion of a frontier world, for example.)

As for the books themselves, aye, well worth it if you can get them - they're also reasonably priced on Amazon, afaik.

If you want action and adventure, as well as underhanded ploys and filled-out characters, then this is the RP for you and those are the books for you too.

That's what I was going for, though I might just say he was born on a Hive World anyway.

As you will, sir, I look forward to reading his tale. :)
So I went to 2 bookstores today and couldn't find any Ravenor/Eisenhorn books, but I did find a Rogue Trader and thumbed through it. I think I'll be a human merc from a feral world, who is recruited into the Adeptus Arbites, who then finds too much corruption for them to handle sanely, and decides to become a Bounty Hunter instead.

That's weird, there's usually a good number of them at my local bookstore...hhhmm.

Anyway, good ideas so far all, looking forward to reading them.

Only thing I'd say to you, POO, is that it's unlikely he'd come from a Feral world - only because there's no reason for him to be selected as an Arbites, they're urban police force after all AKA Hive Cities, Civilised Worlds etc, whereas Feral worlds are...well...feral.

Unless you mean he somehow got off-world, got recruited and pretty much hammered into a loyal servant of the Emperor, thus losing most of what made him feral in the first place?

If that's the case, then I'm all for it; I would suggest you go and read the wikia entry on the Arbites though, if you've not already, it has loads of info you may well need to know.
@Hank If you'll stay, I'll have you.

The OOC is here: roleplayerguild.com/topics/140645-warh..

See ya'll on the flip-flop side.

Character Sheet

I've decided to try something a little different with this RP, and it is thus;

Could you please write about your character in prose form, it can be as long as you like, but must include the important details – those being things such as their name, possibly their age, what they look like (clothes, weapons, etc), belief systems, where they come from, and anything else you feel might be important.

You can simply write about them, include everything in a short story about them, however you see fit really - just please make sure to keep it as detailed as possible; these sheets will likely be altered with story progression, so keep this in mind when writing them.

Please PM them to me when you are done, and I look very much forward to reading them.

P.S.

If you want somewhere definite to end your sheet/story/profile, then when they became a mercenary - and all that it entails to them and those around them - would be a good place.

Other than that you can also carry on right up to the 'present', it's up to you.

Please Read

Something I forgot to mention, but might seem obvious - this is an 'Advanced' RP.

That means that I won't be accepting images of characters, and that I would like detail people!

I don't mind if you take a while to write the profile, or if it's quality over quantity, as long as it's a coherent profile in which things such as their personality, weapon(s), clothing and the like are covered.

“Men, the enemy troops you can see are all that stands between us and the place we have for so long been determined to reach. We must find a way to eat them alive!” - Xenophon, The Persian Expedition

TL;DR Summary:

  • Set within the Games Workshop universe, I intend to stick to the lore as closely as possible while still retaining some form of originality and invention; if you're not a Warhammer 40,000 purist or utter nerd, that's fine.
  • This takes place around in the opening years of the 42nd Millennia, the Necrons are waking up...the Tau are preparing for another sphere of expansion...and the Golden Throne is failing; what could possibly go wrong?
  • We'll be taking on the role of a group of mercenaries, participating in however many missions, tasks and scenarios I and my Co-GM(s) can get my (our) head(s) around. There will be an eventual 'endgame', I'm justy not certain what it is yet.
  • Sound familiar? That's because it is. Don't worry, they'll be plenty different.
  • Xenos of Major and Minor varieties are acceptable, but if you choose to play one then you'd better know what you’re doing. Humans are preferred, but not demanded.
  • Tyranids, Necrons, Sisters of Battle and female Astartes are prohibited – if that's an issue, I'm happy to discuss it.
  • Please private-message character sheets to me for approval. I will put a template up in the Char tab.

In Character Info

In the grim darkness of the 41st millenium there is only war - but there is also emotion, motivation and greed. There are those that combine all of these things, hardened professionals and relativly green newcomers alike, some working toward their own goals and agendas, others simply in it for the money. The latter are the most straightforward of all, and potentially the most trustworthy as well.

From corrupt officials, to Inquisitors that don't wish to involve themselves too closely, to a simple village on a backwater planet that needs defending, in a galaxy at war there is always work for one who is handy with a weapon...and those more than willing to pay them; assassinations, extortion, and so much more can be done with the promise of monetary payment, equipment, contraband or whatever one desires.

This is all doubly so when it comes to the outlying regions of what is known as the Imperium, the 'frontier' as it were, the Calixis Sector and Kronus Expanse...the Ghoul Stars and Eastern Fringe between Tau and Imperial space, enclaves far away from civilisation, and all manner of much less polite settings for one seeking work.

And there are those seeking work...

Some are well-known and easily found - humans of all shapes and sizes, entire races such as the Kroot that are known for their mercenary nature, and arrogant Eldar Corsairs - while others are less known to the Imperium but no less available, those such as the Tarellian Dog-Soldiers, the winged Vespid warriors, the cloaked H'rud and more.

You are one such individual, for whatever reasons or motives, you have chosen the life of a hired killer and now you live with it.

Out of Character Info:

So, there you have it!

I suppose, in short, this RP will be much like Rogue Trader but far more rogue; I will be allowing pretty much any race/species - minus Necrons, Sisters of Battle, Inquisitors or Tyranids - as well as players being able to choose more or less anything about their character that they will...within reason.

You want to create a Valhallan mercenary with a looted Tau pulse rifle, a man who has seen some stuff, who has fought Daemons and gone a little loose because of it? That's fine.

You want to create an Astartes that can tear apart every other member of the 'crew' because of how skilled and overpowered they are? Not fine.

Basically, if you're unsure of such things/have questions, then ask me!

It just makes life easier for all.

One last things before I end my ranting/writing here, and that is that I would like both a bit of knowledge from players as well as balance.

If you don't know anything about Space Marines, or why one would turn renegade, then don't bother trying to write one. Same goes for any character. Reading up on things, or simply watching YouTube lore vids, is easy enough to get a grasp on such things.

By 'balance' I mean exactly that - as in the above example, unless your character is a psychopath (fair one) or a worshipper of Chaos (which I would discourage but not prohibit) then fighting a Daemon would do something to them, probably. Action and reaction, balance, if you think your character is unbalanced then they probably are.

Oh, one last thing, invention and imagination! There are billions of species/races in the 40K universe, major and minor, and if you can't think enough to make something somewhat original (I expect nothing to be completely so) then there's no hope for you.

So, anyone interested and any questions! Ask them now.

Any questions? Please ask.

A Kroot might also be a viable option, other than men.

Look at any of the races that the Tau use as mercs, they're all viable options; Vespids, Tarrellians, Gue'vesa...

Some of these even.

Of course, a majority 'man' crew is the obvious one - and one I will not discourage - but nor will I say no if someone wishes to play a Xenos (of the Greater or Lesser variety). Can always fill out the NPC ranks with humans, after all. :)
