Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

@MahzIf you default the editor to HTML for new posts, could it potentially remain defaulted to BBCode for existing posts (with an option to switch to HTML later)? I'm picturing a scenario where I edit the 0th post above, and my BBCode fails because it defaulted to HTML in the middle of a combat, and I'd need to spend a day learning a new programming language while my RPers are wondering if they died or not. They probably did though. Dunno why they're wondering.

I am a bit concerned about having an HTML or visual editor on the forum. One reason is because a large amount of what I do in some of my games involves copypasta from Excel (or more specifically, Google Sheets) with the coding already written into the cells. This allows me to place a lot of information into a single cell, which I can then update automatically with calculations and copy into the forum post.

An example of this is the 0th post I linked previously. If you look at the post, you'll see a very complicated table with a significant amount of work input into the correct BBCode tags. Switching to an HTML editor (a good time to note that I have no experience in coding HTML) would make the table creation significantly more difficult to input into a single line in Excel. I'll add that all of this information is automatically generated by changing values on my spreadsheet, and I do not actually modify the table itself when I edit the post - I delete the previous table and overwrite it using the copy paste from Excel.

I'm sure that a similar function is available with a HTML editor, but it requires every user on this site to learn a new form of coding. There are some limitations to this text editor (no font styles, limited description of tools, etc), but it is not a "bad" editor. People can do a lot with it. In fact, I personally would prefer the limitations of the BBCode to remain in place instead of allowing people to access all of the possibilities of HTML, making it more difficult for me to use the site while in a work environment (background images, auto-playing sound, and a whole host of other HTML options would really limit my usage of the site).

Yes, HTML is more powerful, but with more power comes more problems. The BBCode editor allows the moderators greater control over the media content of posts. Allowing HTML will potentially allow any number of major and disruptive issues. I would be grateful if this editor were improved rather than scrapped.

like odin said, we're waiting for rekaigan to post before i send out a "world building post". the title's still a work in progress.

also, the rp's actually gonna be the journey to the co-ordinates; i'd rather not jump straight there. it won't be the main part of the rp (the characters will eventually get there), but i don't want it to be a case of everyone posts twice and then we're there.

That was my assumption, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!
@Lord Orgasmo If you are interested, we have a free spot now.
A bolt of lightning shot through the great ice wolf, and it yelped, more of shock than pain as the lightning did little to harm him. "Stow thy jester, or at least keep her magic in check! Thy mastery of sorcery leaves much to be desired!" Bledig looked back between the beholder and the possessed sailor, its ears laid back in annoyance as it picked up where it had been interrupted. "Thy speech holds aloft the care and dignity of a banquet for krill, Children of the Deep," he responded, looking first at Dyn, then to Reemes. "However, it doth behoove us all to acquiesce to thine request, to the extent of which I doth... ken."

The great frosted wolf drifted forward, coming to rest on the ship's deck itself. Where its feet touched our boat, ice sprang from its wintry pads, spreading forth as if to create a frozen carpet for it to advance upon. Bledig held himself with a strong air of self-importance like a noblewoman in a commoner's market. It glared down at us, dwarfing all of us in size. I considered casting an Enlarge spell on our barbarian, but the Circle of Power taxing my concentration was a much more effective defensive measure. For now.

Bledig laid his head down on the deck of the ship, seemingly appearing tired. "For years, I have been the Gate's Steward. I won the honor in a duel with the previous Steward, whom I defeated. And for years, none have dared challenge me. Until now. A marid, unhappy with my decisions yet too cowardly to act on it, cast some wild wish upon the gate, conjoining our worlds in mortal peril. I cannot confront the marid, as he has hidden himself deep within the waters, and my duties restrict me to remain nearby the Gate. Wouldst thou find him snd bring him to whatever form of justice thou seest fit?"
Are we waiting for someone, or should we continue posting? I feel like we are waiting, but if you want us to physically arrive at the location already, we can. @Grimhildr
@AtheistPaladin I might suggest that you try DMing a PbP game. Be upfront and say you're a newbie DM. People will probably forgive and help you along, and you have time to react without worrying about response time much. I think you might find it rewarding.
@AtheistPaladin I know there's a market fpr D&D here, but most of our DMs are pretty busy. Ever consider DMing yourself? 5e is easy to pick up.
@fer1323 I was waiting for a certain new PC to be posted, but I could get something in.
Drajhan felt himself being swept away by the firbolg woman just as the rhetoric appeared to heat up slightly. It was just as well; this village seemed terrified of strangers, and likely for good reason. Draj may not be a great judge of character, but the words he could hear as he was pulled away did not paint these new people in a positive light.

Turning his attention to his new guide, Drajhan smiled warmly. "These gentlemen who just arrived. Who are they? I heard something about child-snatching. Is this true?" The concern was evident on Draj's voice, and although this woman seemed to be not the mosst talkative individual alive, Draj hoped she would summon the courage to speak truthfully. "The story I told of the Vindicator. It was true. If you say the word, I will do what I can to end your suffering. What do you say?"
