@LetMeDoStuff Will our characters be able to be dodgy and eccentric? I'm all for new recruits of an army, but can we make it some specialized offshoot rather than just copy/paste grunts? The character I'm writing has a criminal background and unsavory motivations, which I think works well with the environment they are in.

Sure, that should work! As long as they were freed bfore they joined. As it was mentioned, almost every available/unemployed, as well as single, childless and volunteers, person was sent for training. People with some sort of criminal background would be likely to come across. As long as everyone wasn't some sort of criminal. The innocent, weak and fearful mix well with the bold and grungey.

Also, as everyone would have the rank of a Private, as Military ranks and stuff are still in use, especially with the 'Base' the survivours are held up in are a last branch of the British Forces. Myself, however, will be the only one who's been within the Military for longer than the others. It'd not be much longer, and doesn't mean the apocalypse would be a confident subject they could tackle, and would also only contain the first NCO rank of Lance Corporal. So...yeah...

So as my suggestion for the story I was thinking a good way to blend the Army and Civilian scenarios is to have us (the players) as a bunch of ragtag Civilian Militia/merc/survivor group whos been contracted by someone powerful to save someone/recover something/eliminate a target, that way we will still be able to have bad-ass skills while retaining our personalities as 'everyday' people.



I've actually been writing a up character draft in case you decide to go this suggested route :)

See, I really like that idea. However, the main issue I have is that they seem too experienced. Even if they were Military Personnel, they'd have been the newer recruits. I was planning on leading this down the path of almost-complete helplessness. The thought of being less capable of surviving does work though.

How about this? The New Military Personnel, mixed with some NPCs, would be forced to go out to find someone, Saving Private Ryan Style. The peoplr who'd send them would either be the makeshift survivor's outpost [There being a total of four in London, very basic and not incredibly defended], or a group who'd have taken the Military Recruits under hostage. Both of these would happen between a Month or Two from when everything happened, so no one would really br capable of being a heroic and brave badass, but still has some experience to ensure no death. It'd run mainly on a Run-To-Survive rather than Fighting necessity. How's that for a brief guideline, which I'll expand when I make the thread?
