Mary smiled slightly as the man in front of her replied to her greeting. There was an air around him of normalcy, that he was just an average man. Even if he wasn't strong like Nero, or sly like Lily, he had a sort of face that said. 'Yeah, I'm a normal dude' with his slightly disheveled and lazy look. Even when he got her name wrong, there was a sort of awkward charm he had that brought him down to earth. With demons and angels and cyborgs in the mix, he seemed like he'd be nice to have around.
Before she could correct the man on her profession, and her name, the pair was stopped by a voice. An arrogant looking man commanded Souta to be more careful with the book he had picked up and stuffed in his pocket. Mary paid the book no mind until then, but she doubted it would crumble to dust before they read it. Even if it was torn, modern technology made it possible to decipher such documents. Mary was prepared to disregard the man and let bygones be bygones. The man appeared the part of a Lumen Sage, and she doubted they got out even as much as she did. Souta looked like he was about to blow a gasket. He called out some insults too the man before huffing and walking away. Mary, unsure of what to do, followed suit.
As the two of them reached the door, Souta examined it fairly haphazardly. There were various symbols strewn across it, runes of magic no doubt. She, unfortunately, could not remember what these symbols meant, or if she had even learned of them in the first place. She, too, disregarded it. It seemed another person would have to open it.
Mary's ears refocused automatically as she heard her name being called. Turning her head, she saw it was the old man. She distinctly remembered him knowing of the Demon at the second seal's name. He must have had a spell for that, or maybe he asked the Watchers. It didn't matter that much either way. Souta got fairly angry at him, berating the man for calling out to him. Mary personally couldn't spin it either way, if the geezer cared, or if he wanted more people to protect him. But that didn't matter. As Souta walked forward with his arm outstretched, his hoodie began to glow. A small excited gasp escaped from Mary's mouth as she saw the pretty light designs on the hoodie. That looked super cool! But she quickly regained control of herself and caught up to Souta. She guessed they were paired up now or something. Now seemed like a good time to try and diffuse.
"Lumen Sage," Mary said, focused on the young looking man. "I understand you do not interact with people much. Talking down to people is rude." She then shifted her focus to the older man. "I understand you're very old, but, again, talking down to people is rude." Now, she was preaching to the whole room. "Seniority or position don't matter anymore. We're all agents of the council. I'm willing to treat you all as equals if you are willing to do the same."
Mary sniffed around at her surroundings. They had made it to the ancient library that the Council had sent them to, and it was as ancient as she had thought it would be. The hall was covered in dust from obvious disuse, and it seemed the wall sconces were all out of wax. Luckily, an old magician lead the way with a small magical cantrip that produced a ball of light. If he wasn't around, they'd have to illuminate their way with gunfire, and Mary didn't want to ruin the clothing she had on right now. Somehow, it seemed Lily had gotten back Mary's light dress clothing that she borrowed. A trip to earth, or if Lily was simply lying Mary didn't know or care. She was wearing clean clothes now, even if she hadn't showered.
The old man abruptly came to a stop as the group entered a great dome. He seemed more interested in the books than the mission they were on, telekinetically bringing them closer too inspecting them. Still, the books held great knowledge, possibly of the seals. Even if she did wish he waited, she understood his point. For now, she would allow him a moment before moving forward. She wanted to talk to Souta, since she didn't get a chance after their meeting in Barlour.
"Hello, you're Souta, yes?" She asked of the man she was walking beside. "I believe we met in Barlour before the second seal was broken. You're a representative of Gilgamesh, right?"
@Double Yep, had a feeling. Should I add stuff like provisions, her wallet, etc.? Seems everyone else did, and you're gunning for realism, right?
Also I'm definitely gonna rename Mercey. I'm torn between, Koku, or a name that doesn't suck. Any suggestions for that second one? I really can't think of anything honestly.
I’m just not convinced that the Castle/City Guard (one of us has to change this to not have this gaping lore inconsistency) would be like “Oh, you were a poacher? But swore loyalty to the King? Yeah you can be a guard – we won’t distrust you entirely for doing that!”
I also feel like having overlap is kind of concerning? But not the GM so this is just a player’s thoughts.
I remember it being mentioned that the King totally did stuff like that in OoT. First time you talked to Zelda i think. But either way, it would be nice if someone changed. I also think we have a few too many courageous heroes and not enough wise ones, but thats just me.
So @Double will we ever see those Triforce fragments the PCs dont have? Itd be cool if we fought some people with them.
EDIT: I also understand if neither of you change. Creating a fully fleshed out character with backstory is a lot of work.
Hmm. I feel like "Mercey" is a bad name for a Deku. I was thinking about chainging it to something more fitting like Koku or something. The only issue is Dekus are never given a name in game, just titles. Im not really sure what a Deku name would be.
Personality: A sly and cunning woman, always looking for somebody to swindle or force into a purchase. She is a natural risk taker. She does not trust people, and likes to appear mysterious to others. Despite this, she is surprisingly convincing, and is prone to bursts of emotion. She is frugal, understanding money's value and power. She is also kind of a loner, even if she speaks fairly frequently.

Background: Mercey has lived a fairly normal life. Even during the Seven Year War, the Deku people were safely hidden in the Lost Wood. Mercey was being groomed to be a proper Merchant, like her father before her, and his father before him. But business was different now. The roads were crowded with monsters and bandits were prominent. Mercey's father insisted on teaching his daughter self defense. He bought her a knife, and taught her how to use it. This proved to be a good idea.
News spread quickly of the Hero's return, even to the hidden Deku people. This brought much joy and hope to the Deku people that they may return to normal trade and ascend from half the population from being in poverty. As the days went by, less monsters crowded the roads, and more trading was done. But eventually, more monsters returned. Quickly after, the Kokiri, who were currently debating another trade disagreement with the Deku, were attacked and slaughtered, the survivors becoming enslaved. The King informed his people that they would begin trade with Ganon, as to entice the gerudo to let them live.
It was about this time Mercey began working in the mercantile business. One day, while she was smuggling goods to the Deku Palace, she encountered a man. He was a poor Hylian, obviously harried and hurt. He told her that, when Ganon had defeated Zelda and Link, the pieces of the Triforce weren't obtained by Ganon, but instead broken and spread across the land. The man looked poor and foolish, so Mercey disregarded him. But soon after, some of Ganon's men came to the Deku capital looking for something. Mercey, always one to make a deal, started accosting the men to make a purchase. Surely, she had what they wanted. Unwittingly, they tipped her off to the existence of the Triforce fragments. Imagine the deal she could make off of that!
She began following the underground trail of rumors and hearsay until she encountered a man. Said man had no money to pay for the ornate, antique bow and arrows he wanted, but was willing to trade some info. The location of a Triforce fragment. Hesitantly, she gave the man the weapon, but as soon as she did, he raced out of the shop. It seemed he bought the bow as a means to obtain the power himself. Mercey too, raced for it. For a day and a night, she rode by horseback to an old ranch where a soldier of Ganon lay in wait. He seemed to not know what he had, and Mercey was just barely able to swindle it out of him, having to give him all of the rupees she had on her. She, of course, got them back with her trusty boomerang as soon as he was far enough away though.
As she held the rock in her hand, it felt as though she was getting smarter every second. Quickly, she squeezed it into her palm and absorbed it. Just in time for the bowman to appear. As soon as they saw each other, he began to nock an arrow from the quiver, killer intent visible in his eye. But somehow, even though Mercey barely ever got into fights, she knew exactly what to do. She dodged his arrows with ease, and managed to strike him down. Though she originally planned to sell the rock to the highest bidder, it may have been a better idea to keep it. For now, she would make her way to Oasis to see how much people would pay for Wisdom as great as this.
