You live in the Kingdom of Lucumbro. Maybe you haven't for a majority of you life, but for now, you reside here. It's the year 2235, and things look like hell here. The countryside is ablaze, the castle is full of backstabbers, and towns are being raided. It's been like this for almost a century now, this war that's consumed the Kingdom. 94 years ago Sardiel, the Eternal King, revealed that he had been puppeteering the crown for over 1000 years. Up to that things had been shaky, but workable. Other than the poverty and issues with the political system, the Kingdom was at peace. Once the truth was out, the rising tensions exploded.

A half-demon girl by the name of Gennisi would lose her home soon after this, and become the face of the rebellion. Once the original leader died, she became Commander of the Firebird Empire at only 23 years old. Her fervent attitude and impassioned speeches on revolution gathered many to her side, and forced the small rebellion into an all-out civil war. The King, out of touch but still wise, erected military outposts and demanded a higher rate of production of weaponry and Lapi, unparalleled since nearly 300 years ago. But the Firebirds would not let up, and Sardiel was forced to play the long game, again sacrificing his citizens short-term well being for the longevity of the kingdom, and himself.

Ever since, neither of the two sides have let up. Sardiel is still ruling king, as youthful as the day he had revealed himself, while Gennisi seemed to have not aged either, and indeed has survived many grievous wounds. The war shows no signs of stopping, but you've had enough. Whoever you are, you have joined with six others in an effort to end the war. You may be just a motley crew now, but you've all got skills beyond a commoner, and an ally who seems to know just where to point you all. With luck, you might just be able to pull through.

Magic is used through rocks that can provide passive buffs, enchant weaponry, or be activated to launch spells. Basically Materia. A more detailed explanation is below.

Here's the CS.

I'm looking for 6 others, but there are some people from a previous thread who showed interest and created characters previously, and they will take precedent over others, should they return. Also, feel free to ask questions.

Hel-lo again~! I'm glad to see Sardiel's been incorporated well enough. That being said, I'll see about creating a new character for this at some point.

Nobody being particularly interested is what happened to the last iteration unfortunately. But I've trimmed the fat, now we only need 6 people before we can start, instead of the like, 20 I originally had. And, hey, no problem, school's about to start up on my end as well so I totally understand that.

EDIT: Shit, forgot to mention, leave a decent amount of time (6 months to a year) in your bio right at the end so, once everyone's in, we can discuss character relations.

Hey, this looks interesting. I just have a few questions though.

Is 6 a hard limit for this, or can more people join along the way? Also, do you mind if a newer player (me) tags along?

@Pink Snorlax I'd be open to letting more than 6 people on certainly, just thought i wouldnt garner enough interest to need more than that. I think the limit should be about 9. Thatd mean ten PC's, myself included.

And yeah, the reason I posted this Int. Check was because other people could come on. Theres no gaurantee that everyone from the other thread will hop over. If you have any other questions relating to the setting or plot, feel free to ask.

@Kafka Komedy

Are we going to start with badass characters or is that something we gotta work forwards too? Like, are we all masters of our respective fields and got some killer gear or are we "Welcome to the start of your RPG adventure! Go beat goblins to death with nothing but a wood club and your skivvies."

Now Sir/Madam/Other I never said they were in their skivvies, I said wooden clubs and skivvies. Choking out demons with underoos is what I call a good time.

@Dragonbud Anything specific you would like to know? If you have a question about the setting, feel free to ask, I'm sure I can answer.

@Pathfinder We're starting with above-average characters. Whatever they're main focus is (I.E. Lapi, Killing stuff, inventing shit) it's like they've been trained by a good teacher for about 5-6 years. They would be able to take down a commoner with ease, a soldier with some effort, and it would take a few of them working together to take down someone serious and skilled, like a gang leader or the head of a cult. Even with all of them though, it's up in the air whether they could defeat even the weakest member of the Firebird Council. But of course, they'll get much stronger as the journey continues with new Lapi and training and such.

So, human children can be mutated by Lapi usage but does that also happen with grown ups? And everyone can use Lapi but is there a limit to how much the crystal can be used consequently without stop? Does it overheat, discharge then needs time to recharge or wear down the users own energy? By what I read I'm guessing that a Lapi has the same effects no matter who uses them but when you said that master magis could manipulate it, do you mean that instead of a, for example, lightning bolt they can manipulate it to take the shape of an arrow or a lightning sword? If there are multiple lightning Lapis with different effects, if someone masters one of them and learns to manipulate it, does it mean that he can virtuality be able to fabricate all lightning Lapis just from mastering and manipulating one? On a side note can you manipulate a Lapi without actually mastering it? So the magi can't recreate that Lapi 's effect by himself, he needs one to pull it off, but at the same time he has learned to manipulate said Lapi. So if he had a lightning spear Lapi, now he can manipulate it and change it to a lightning sword or lightning bolt. Now that Lapi for him* is a lightning Lapi with universal use, meaning that he can recreate all lightning Lapis from that single one he has. What are the benefits of mastering a Lapi instead of just carrying it and using it besides the fact that you don't have to carry it on you all the time? Does the casting procedure change? Does it require more of your inner energy to be spent?

And finally, could you mold Lapis in your body? I mean if you molded a fire/water/earth/air on your body and learned to manipulate them all, you practically become the avatar.

Well I guess some just general information would be fine, like level of technology in the world and what the basic playable races are.

I'll separate your question into parts.
1. Human children aren't mutated by using Lapi themselves, they're mutated by people using Lapi around the mother while pregnant. This means that adults can't obtain mutations either.

2. Generally, Lapi cost stamina. Use Lapi too much, and you'll pass out. Use them too too much, and you can die of exhaustion.

3. Occasionally they have cooldown periods where they can't be used, but they will never overheat. And yes, it does wear down the uer's energy.

4. Correct.

5. Yes, they can mimic other lightning based Lapi, but without mastering a Lapi, it's incredibly dangerous to attempt to manipulate an unmastered Lapis, and will backfire at least 99% of the time. But yes, if you have mastered a Lightning Lapis you can recreate all lightning based Lapi, at the cost of much higher stamina use.

6. The benefits of Mastering Lapi are listed thusly; You don't need to carry it around, you can manipulate it, and it costs less stamina. The casting procedure is kind of different, at least in style. Instead of pouring your energy into the Lapi, you pour it into your soul. But that's just fluff. You cast it pretty much the same, charge something with your stamina, make magic happen.

7. By mold I assume you mean master. Yes, if one did master a fire, earth, water, and air Lapi they could become the avatar. Unfortunately, that would take a lifetime of work from someone with good magical potential, like a human. That is a good idea for a folk hero though... expect to hear a bard singing about that whenever the group strolls into town actually.

Technologically, the rifled flintlock has just been invented, though generally they're only for use against wild animals since it's cheaper to get some sort of offensive Lapis if you're going to use it repeatedly since ammo costs money.

Also, here's the race breakdown in the kingdom.

Humans: 30%
Elves: 20%
Dwarves: 20%
Halflings: 10%
Assorted Random Races (I.E. Dragonborn, Tengu, etc.): 20%

I'm pretty easy going on races though, just tell me what you were thinking of and I'll give the yay or nay. I'm also open to stuff from mythologies other than western, as mentioned above, tengu are a thing.

You mentioned that creating the Lapi is difficult but are the actual magic stones quite common albeit expensive?

I am thinking along the lines of a Lord or Baron purchasing them for the local workforce to use, as was done with the early farm machinary of the 1850's

@Orion Now that Khint is mass producing them, yeah, they're actually common now, and, though prices are still higher than a well made blade, they used to be a lot more expensive when people had to search and even spelunk for them. So yeah, I think it's logical for a Lord to purchase some Lapi for his workforce.
