Good morning, everyone, and welcome to your first day at Babbling Brook Daycare Academy! My name is Miss Emily, and the lady behind me is Miss Madeline Brooks. I know that it’s always a little scary being someplace that you’re not familiar with, but I’m sure that you’re going to make lots of new friends and go on all sorts of adventures! Remember, if you ever need any help, Miss Madeline and I will be right here!
Hello, little children… I’m The Black Star. That's a 'The' with a capital T, that's important. Don’t try to look for me, I’m not here…at least, not yet. But I’m coming, and there’s nothing that your sweet Miss Emily or Miss Madeline can do about it. They can’t see me…they can’t hear me… Because they don’t believe in monsters like me. But you do, don’t you? So… Are you brave enough to face me and my minions? You’re the only ones who can.
So, that’s it in a nutshell. You’re all preschoolers, doing what preschoolers normally do: Save the world! Adults don’t see it, but those sticks you’re holding are magical blades of virtue, the mudpies are potions, your ‘fwoosh’es and ‘blam!’s are the real deal. The line between what’s real and what’s imagined is blurred, it all comes down to what you believe!
So here are a few rules:
All of the normal RPG rules apply. Since this is a game about little children, I’d rather not have a grimdarkness trying to weasel its way in. This includes (but is not limited to) explicit gore, sexual content, and swearing. Toy Ships are okay. But, like I said, nothing too explicit. I hope I don’t have to tell people not to godmod. Deus Ex Machina, while a popular trope in children’s pretend, will rarely come into play here. The threat here is real, at least to the children, and it might not be able to kill the children but it can keep them from playing. Don’t fight in the OOC. I haven’t seen it here all that much, but in the event of a disagreement, I hope we can talk it out and come to an agreement, which brings me to my next point: Everyone will have a say in what happens in the RP; I am open to all ideas, but my Co-Gm and I have the final say in anything. Please respect that, and we’ll respect you in return. Have fun! Be young again! Go nuts!
Here’s the character sheet: Name: Hero Archetype: (A short list of Archetypes can be found below, along with a brief description. I am always willing to consider new Archetypes as well). Hero Name (If applicable): Physical Description: (A picture is fine) Family: (You must have a family of some type, even if you don’t live with your parents.) Other: Anything we should know about your character? Do you have a peanut allergy? (for example)
Everyday: Everyday heroes include any occupation that a person could take in the real world: Doctor, Police Officer, Fire Fighter, and yes, even Soldier. An Everyday hero has all of the skills and equipment necessary to perform their job and be the best they can be. Superhero: This is pretty straightforward. You like to play as a superhero. You have a variety of super powers to choose from, from flight, to super strength, to the ability to summon giant robots to come to your aid! Like many of the other archetypes here, your power is only limited by your imagination. Martial Artist: Much like the Everyday Hero, the Martial Artist is an expert at what they do, which is hand-to-hand combat, such as Karate, Judo, Kung Fu, and of course, Ninjitsu. Certain Ki/Chi-based attacks and skills are allowed as well. Fantasy: The Fantasy Hero Archetype includes, Knights, Prince/Princesses, Wizards, and…Pirates (at least the romanticized versions thereof). Wizards, and some Prince/esses have access to a wide variety to spells, while Knights and the like can use magical weapons and armor. Monster: Want something a little more scary? Maybe a Monstrous Hero is up your alley! Monsters include vampires, wolfmen, mummies, and zombies. As such, players will access to all of the monsters’ respective abilities, but also their weaknesses (sunlight…mostly). Alien: Basically, these are humanoid monsters from space. They have access to a number of different technological advances, and super powers. Oh, and you can be a robot if you want. Mutant: A more terrestrial humanoid monster, Mutants are either humanoid animals, or animal/human hybrids. They have access to many of the Martial Artist abilities and weapons of the Fantasy archetype.
Upon reading this again, I see that it looks like a D&D manual, but I assure you, there are no mechanics. It’s more so characters don’t just make up abilities on the fly, or at least keep the ones they do make up within certain boundaries. :)
You might notice that I’m not asking for an age, personality, or bio. I’ll tell you why: Age is irrelevant; we’re all preschoolers, which means a difference of maybe a year or two. Nothing major. I think the personality section is needless, as well. Your character’s personality will/should change during the course of the RP. Don’t feel like you have to fit a mold. I feel that the bio is also needless since you’ve only been alive for a few years and have likely not had any major childhood experiences.
The Daycare: The Daycare Academy, known as Babbling Brook, is a medium-sized daycare facility with a 15-child capacity. At the moment, applications are closed. There are two rooms, one large playroom that doubles as a napping area, and a smaller dining area that leads to a bathroom. The yard is about an acre, and it has two large pieces of playground equipment:
The entire area is surrounded by a 4-foot tall chainlink fence.
@rush99999 I had to think long and hard about this.
But then I heard the Might Morphin Power Rangers theme come on my iPod, and it hit me! I'll put the ability to summon giant, mobile robots under the Superhero (Sentai) archetype. Done and done!
We're in Preschool! It's a normal preschool, except for one thing: Imagination! During recess, we change from ordinary preschoolers into great and mighty heroes, whose mission it is to protect the world from the dark powers that threaten to envelope it. (Somewhat inspired by Earthbound/Mother, and...you know, kids.)
Is it real? Is it all in our heads? Is it both? Who knows?
I was thinking that, just for the sake of simplicity, the characters would be allowed to choose one Hero Archetype and they could get a variety of powers and abilities based on that archetype, since, you know, kids tend to change their minds a lot.
Here are some of the Hero Archetypes: Superhero: Stock super Powers Mundane: Cops, Doctors, Firemen, etc Martial Artist: Karate, Ninjitsu, Kung Fu, etc Fantasy: Knight, Mage, Prince/Princess, etc Monster: Vampire, Wolfman, Frankenstein, Mummy, etc Beast Master: Ability to talk to and command animals Mutant: Humanoid Animals, or Hybrids If anyone has suggestions for more archetypes, I'm more than willing to hear them!
The only rule regarding characters will be that they can't be "Bad Guys". The players will be fighting the Bad Guys.
Amanda took the guy's hand and shook it; her grip was light, but not limp. Her father had always taught her the importance of a good handshake. She laughed when he said that it was just a card game, and that the fate of the world wasn't at stake. "I agree," she replied. "I've played enough games to know the difference between fantasy and reality..." She was about to tell him how she was just starting out when he suddenly recognized her. She blushed deeply. Her near-loss was something of an embarrassment to her, but she was put at ease when he said that he thought the battle was pretty tense. At least someone had a good time during her duel... She gave a soft chuckle when she thought about it.
In all honesty, she hadn't been paying too much attention to the duels, unless she was in them, so she felt slightly embarrassed once again as she asked, "So, how did yours go? I mean, you won, obviously..."

Umm...what else can I say about myself? I dunno. I'm part cyborg (my leg). That's kinda interesting, I guess. I'm a brony, but I honestly haven't followed anything having to do with FIM since, like, Season 3...ish. I like creepypastas...in fact, I have a couple in the works. And I'm in the process of writing an SCP. That's cool, right? That's what cool kids do? I like anime, video games,...uh, music...and...uh...stuff. *vague babbling*
Oh! I'm on Steam! "Karl Kadaver"
