I know I've been a little quiet in the OOC this past week, rest assured I am still here, just been a little busy (see: shitting myself) preparing for presenting at two academic conferences in two weeks.

The question of how do we decide what is moral without foundational truths (i.e. moral values inherent in nature because God put them there etc) is a problem for lots of ethicists. One solution that his been put forward is using coherence theory, essentially meaning that for something to be true/correct it must be internally consistent. When applied to morality/laws this means that though morality is relativistic and might differ from culture to culture, moral judgements can still be made about a country's morality/laws.

So going back to Fakensia and its death for homosexual laws, there are ways it could be argued that these laws are wrong even if we accept that morality is relativistic when taking into consideration the principles of coherence. Lets say that Fakensia follows a mono-theistic style religion from which its legal system is based and one of the principle commandments of said religion and thus one its principle laws is something akin to Thou Shalt Not Kill. The law that allows for the killing of homosexuals is not coherent with this broader cultural moral framework, and thus can be objected to on more than just a subjective basis.

Alternatively we could take the position of moral subjectivists (morality is only decided at the personal rather than cultural level) or moral skeptivists (that morality does not exist/is unknowable) to contest the unjust law. The former through a position of individual liberty, the latter through some kind of 'might makes right' conception.

Something short and sweet, have written a bunch of the Duke Howard stuff but it was getting a bit big so I decided to split into two

If anyone wants anything more specific to react to/feels a bit aimless, give me a shout - once people have settled into their groups/tasks I might do some more GM-y event style stuff for clusters of players. Still remembering how to do this lol

Lem watched as Branimir walked away. He felt a mixture of shame and envy in his wake. At that moment he felt that Branimir possessed the qualities which he desired the most. That steadiness in his stride... the strength in his legs. Lem was the senior of the two, but it was Branimir who supported and reassured him. He knew that Branimir respected him, and likewise he respected Branimir - but he envied the younger man nonetheless. At his age surety was a luxury no longer permitted.

But this solemn day's business would not wait for an old man's anxieties to subside. The foraging parties should already know their remits, and if Branimir was overseeing the digging teams, then that left Lem to co-ordinate with the Duke about where he wanted men for the fortification project. Ah... the Duke. That was one thing that no one had got round to yet, someone still had to inform His Grace that the captain was no longer amongst them.

Lem began to move through the dissipating crowd of men. The shrill drone of the pipes of Skerry rose up from behind a line of pavilions, despite their funerary tones, the sound brought a thin smile to Lem's lips. Brádach would take any excuse to play the damn things. How he wasn't sick of that awful wailing after so many years Lem couldn't fathom. The man was older than he was for the Blessed's sake! Faintly in the distance he thought he could hear church bells ringing, odd, but fitting perhaps.

His squire was waiting for him when he parted the still damp canvas.

"Bring around Russell and your own horse, we're off to see Duke Howard."

@Kassarock @POOHEAD189 The heck? I was asking about post spacing, not about how soon or often everyone should post. I don't care if people need or want to take more time. Not my business. I just want to know if there's a minimum number of people who should post before posting again. Sometimes the minimum is three people, sometimes you have to wait for everyone else to post, sometimes you can go back-to-back with one person.

Sorry, I took the fact that you were asking about when you could post again as an indication that you wanted to post again.

In answer to your question, why not say wait for 5 people but also wait for like 5 days as well? Considering we got 9 posts in under 2 days.

@Dziady Ack, I feel your pain, one of mine is still coming through and the bastard makes it hurt to eat for weeks at a time. Still, if I don't have to have it out I won't.

EDIT: Wow I read that back and it comes off as real passive-aggressive doesn't it? Non-intended, swear.
