You can get a letter of marque from any governor. Port Royal was the favourite during this period.
Completely forgot about Corvettes ^^' will add them when I'm not feeling lazy.

Edit:

Ahem. Ninja'd.
Hmm, no pirate would own a frigate, you probably wouldn't even be able to buy one. Unless you capture a frigate (which is highly unlikely) the best ship you can hope for is a trading galleon or a brig.
The sloop is underestimated, there is a great deal a skilled captain can do with a quick sloop. If you want to buy another ship, Tortuga is full of them, or you can try to capture one.
The summaries are now up in the OP. I would suggest you read them and if you have any problems with what I've written about your characters let me know. Let me know if you are happy with it (a simple 'aye' will do) and I can get working on the opening IC post, then we can get this thing off the ground.

I think the Galleon was a jack of all trades but master of none at this time? Ships of the Line were much better in battle and ships like the Fluyt were better as .

Pretty much. They were used by the Spanish for everything, but depending on the purpose they could be more lightly or heavily armed, and therefore easier or more difficult to capture, hence the distinction between trading and war galleons.

I don't think we're going to see many ships of the line unless we get into the later period, 1670's onward. Though of course there is no telling what the powers that be may decide to do...

Rank System in Eskanadran Military

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Strengths:
-Agriculturally self sufficient and is able to export great amounts of surplus food
-Uses a system of enclosure and estate farming, meaning that agricultural production is dramatically increased
-Able to export pretty much any crop, plant or fruit due to climate and rich soil
-Large, professional military and navy
-Good ability and skill at using pre-gun powder artillery, especially in the navy
-Integrated culture and religion leading to less religious or cultural strife and segregation
-Efficient policing and legal system resulting in a relatively low crime rate
-Heavily loyal population due to the feeling that the monarch cares and attempts to improve life
-Has many thriving crafts
-Advanced education system resulting in a generally enlightened population and an intense academic scene
-Efficient sewage disposal system
-Good, high quality livestock production and rearing of war animals

Weaknesses:
-Small but growing pirate presence - kept at bay by the navy
-Does not use gun powder and thus is extremely vulnerable against more advanced nations
-Does not use magic and this is extremely vulnerable against magical nations and beings
-Is not technologically advanced
-Has no reliable supply of good quality metal within Eskanadra
-Very expensive army and navy upkeep
-Suffers from the presence of a malicious and cunning criminal underground, mainly in the business of prostitute trafficking
-Navy is rather backward despite its strength
-Army and navy are led by Royals, making it very difficult for talented non-Royals to rise in the military
-Population is nearly 100% human, meaning that contact with other intelligent species is limited
-Being a monarchy, the nation is not run as efficiently as it could be and corruption in the royal house is more apparent, though not enough for the Basileus to notice
-Relatively small expansionist ambitions, meaning that Eskanadra will continue to suffer from weaknesses such as the metal, technology, magic and other problems

ohwhen do you think we'll be starting and all?

I've received 5 CS's, which is good enough to start, but since Click This has been so helpful I think we'll wait a tiny bit till he (?) has sent one. I'm currently writing the summaries and once they're all up I'll open the IC - that will be the signal that this has begun. My ideal would be to get this started today.

Nation Name:
Eskanadra (formerly a groups of eight Fiefdoms conquered by the House of Eskandar)

Population:
Estimated at 1,000,000 in total, give or take 10,000. 2,500,000 before plague
Population in Capital: 200,000
Population in Major Cities: 250,000
Peasants in Rural Areas and Towns around Eskanadra: 50,000
Farmers: 500,000
Amount of Urban population able to join army: 100,000
Amount of Urban population in the army: 47,347

Racial Denominations:
-Human (99%)
-Others (1%)

Form of Government:
Monarchy. The royal House of Eskandar rules over Eskanadra with an emphasis on Justice and Peace. The current monarch or Basileus as their Kings are known, is Basileus Oppius II, seen as a benign ruler who does what's best for the people, though unlike his father, he seems to lack the authoritativeness needed to impose the will of the ruler on the ruled. Indeed, none dare disobey him as he sits upon the Throne of Words, but he does not have the natural charisma, and many see him as a 'soft' ruler. His wisdom cannot be denied however, and he is well loved, after all, his policies and works are felt everywhere. Seeing as Eskanadra has only formed by splitting off from an old kingdom two hundred and thirteen years ago, it does not have a very large aristocracy compared to others, in fact there are generally no aristocrats other than the royals. None hold more power than the Basileus's direct family, and no one has more authority than the Basileus himself. He does, however, have many advisors and wise men around him who are generally academics or men who have done great research outside of the Institutions of Higher Education and Learning. These tend to have huge influence on the Basileus, not only because what they advise is generally correct, but because it is them who teach the heir everything he knows, and thus being brought up in their care, his respect for them is great. This same education by the best does also mean that the monarch is generally very difficult to manipulate, even by those who taught him or her.

Your frigate knowledge will definitely come in useful as we (if we?) progress through this RP. How's your knowledge on the other ship types?
