I would post, I'm just not entirely sure what to post or who (if anyone) is in the city my character is in.
I would also like to add that during the 19th century and early 20th century Islam experienced a 'renaissance' of progressive, new interpretations of Sharia and Islam in general. Progress and Pan-Islamism were all the talk before the rise of the Saudis and there Wahabism and all the Pan-Arabism replaced Pan-Islamism.
You just need to take a look at such scholars as Mohammed Iqbal, Malik bin Nabi, Jamal ad-Din al-Afghani, Abd al-Rahman al-Kawakibi, Syed Ahmad Khan and others.
Of course it is. Look at Christian countries. Wherever you go, the churches are built in the European manner, the clothes of the clergy are the European ones. Converts had to become Christian and thus assimilate to a more Western way of life, where Western = Christian.
If you go to countries where Muslims spread, you will find that the mosques are not built in the Arab architecture, but in the local architecture, peoples clothes didn't suddenly change and become Arabised. Muslim =/= Arab. Islam is all about flexibility and accommodation. Anybody who knows an ounce about Sharia law would now that it is all about flexibility and interpretations.
Thankfully I've read a few law books and have gained a general understanding of Common and Shariah law, and Shariah is anything but inflexible. If anything, its flexibility is the reason you get extremists - they get to bend it so much.
I saw that picture and couldn't resist a post :P
What do I care what Muslim countries are doing? I've read a bit about Islam and this stuff comes up. Very interesting religion. But I guess I'm reading for those who are not quite so Taliban. You have to remember that at the time Muslims in India were among the most progressive they have ever been. Something had to trickle to those Afghans. That's my excuse.
Gone...
You know what this means Dutch, right? Uzbekistan must remain with Timur's heirs as respect to his tomb. The Great Father Timur has spoken.
Sheez, definitely won't let that happen.
The Emirate refuses! We shall not return to The Pit! We've just barely managed to crawl the hell out!
My goodness Giant. Had to burst my bubble.
