Killer Moth

Name: Chloe Van Cleer/ Killer Moth

Beneath the mask

Alignment: Lawful Evil

Affiliation: Self-Employed

History: Chloe Van Cleer grew up in Limerick, Ireland, as a frail , unassuming young girl who was often taunted and picked on by bigger children. Her weak physicality offered her little protection, but as the bullying increased, so too did her mind sharpen. The children who targeted her would often find themselves stricken with mysterious illnesses, or injured at the hands of faulty classroom equipment. Some of the worst offenders would suffer fatal allergic reactions, at times where no medical help could reach them.

Chloe had more mental illnesses than friends, and spent most of her childhood burning off pent up rage by punching bags or people. She flunked pretty much every class, but excelled in extracurricular self-defense sessions. Boxing, wrestling, shooting, krav maga, mma, judo, and Jeet Kune Do; Chloe dabbled in pretty much every style of fighting that she could find a class for.

She dropped out of school to sell weed a few years later, and began using the profits to invest in herself as a gun-for-hire. Once she had enough money, Chloe cut ties with her family, and headed off to Gotham City, ready to make a name for herself in the criminal underworld.

Upon arriving in Gotham, it became painfully apparent that Chloe was a small fish in a very big, very murky, pond full of sharks and crocodiles. She could get the odd bit of work here and there, but most mob bosses just laughed her out of their offices, or tried to convince her to become a hooker. Angry and rapidly nearing bankruptcy, Chloe switched back to utilising the quick wits and devious mindset that had gotten her through her earliest years in Limerick. She needed an edge, not only on her targets, but also against other hitmen. That was the line of thinking which spawned the cocoon gun.

Chemical warfare was Chloe’s new gig, and being able to incapacitate whole room's worth of hired guns suddenly made her a lot more desired. Now working under the alias “Killer Moth”, Chloe is an up-and-coming star in Gotham’s dark underbelly, who will aid any gang or crime syndicate, as long as the pay is good enough.

Supporting Cast: None at time of writing.

How (if at all) does the New Frontier version of your character differ from the original?: Apart from the obvious genderswap, I’ve tried to ground Killer Moth in a slightly more menacing, and slightly less ridiculous, set of circumstances. She has no single universe limitations. My intention is to use her as an adversary to some of the non-super powered heroes, and to develop my own individual story threads.

The Bronze Rail was an exclusive restaurant, nestled within the rusted expanse of the Chaerina Somabra railway station, which had been decommissioned after the Great Fire of 1985 engulfed it, along with the rest of what was now known as the “Burned Block”.

Nyxvira Bloodbloom sat in her favorite leather chair, spilling over its sides, as she sucked down a forkful of creamy spaghetti carbonara. Dressed in a frilly white top which rode up over her huge stomach, and pin-striped blue and red shorts which were tightly stretched over her thick thighs , Nyxie was thoroughly enjoy one of her favorite meals in one of her favorite restaurants, whilst a hook-nosed goblin pressed a Samsung Galaxy to her left ear.

“Miss Bloodbloom, please..!” the voice at the other end crackled.

“What else is there to discuss, Mister Carson?” Nyxvira’s voice was sweet, yet icy. It rose from the back of her throat, soft and smooth, before washing out into the world around her.

“I beg of you, miss,” the voice pleaded “just indulge me.”

“I’m a busy woman, Mister Carson.” Nyxvira stated bluntly, whilst trying to throw a complimentary mint into her empty glass “You have one more minute of my time.”

“I understand that you have a reputation to maintain, I really do!” the voice babbled frantically “but we can’t afford to cut any more corners here! These are people’s homes that we’re talking about! If I’m to make this payment, I won’t be able to guarantee my customers safe homes!”

“You -WILL- guarantee your customers safe homes,” the Faerie snapped “and you -WILL- make this payment, in full. The quality of the houses is of no consequence to me. You’re a businessman; so -LIE-.”

Nyxie stabbed a piece of chicken with her fork, savouring the taste as she gently chewed it.

“Fail to supply me with the money I’m owed and things will start going very wrong for you, very quickly.”

*BEEP* the goblin hung up for her.

“Grezbill,” she addressed him in a voice which held causal authority “tell the Wyrmblood to get her half-cast arse down here. I have a job for her. I don’t trust the corpse boys, anymore. They were a means to an end, and our business is concluded. I’ll tie up -THAT- loose end later, but for now….”

Nyxvira reached into her shorts pocket, pulling out a smart-looking business card.

“Arrange a meeting with this Cain fellow.”

Dame felt the carriage shake and judder, pulling her out of la la land, as Crash came speeding in to forewarn them of the train’s newest passengers.

“Ah’m a good shot,” Dame called out to Blank, completely honestly and without even the faintest hint of undeserved arrogance “Ah can watch Crash’s back. Stowp ‘im goin’ hero on us.”

The young synth slipped down beneath her seat, and pulled out a chunky steel lock box. A few latches were flicked, a few buttons were pressed, and then the box flew open with a snappy woosh, revealing the Decimator.

Dame scooped up the custom assault rifle in both hands, holding it loosely against her chest, as she broke into a controlled jog, following the face-plated Diver into the passenger carriage.

The section of the train that she made her way into had already degraded into a frantic mess of bloody panic. Armed hostiles were storming the carriage, and their very presence was a strong indicator that they had few reservations about gunning down civilians to get to their objective.

Dame stopped by the entrance, running over her options in her head. The Decimator fired explosives, albeit small ones, so shooting into the crowd would almost certainly result in civilian casualties. She’d let Crash deal with the hostiles who’d gotten close to the passengers, whilst she picked off the ones nearer the back.

Her optics gave an almost unnoticeable mechanical whirr as she pinpointed a trio of hired guns who were clambering through the gaping breach in the roof carriage’s steely casing, relatively out of the way of the rest of the commotion.

Potential lethality of projectile detonation on hostile persons: 83%

Potential risk of projectile detonation harming civilian persons: 52%

Dame set up her shot in one fluid motion, before squeezing the trigger and sending a rapid five-shot burst of explosive shells shrieking through the air. The projectiles slammed into the floor below the breach, erupting in a partially contained ploom of searing flame and shrapnel. The force of the blast itself was enough to knock a fair few hostiles and civilians to their feet, whilst the jagged spikes of metal and roaring fire turned a handful of hired guns into blotchy red splatters.
