No offense intended. But there's a sweet spot on the sliding scale of realism, and most of the interest checks I usually see skew too far to the realism end for me.

Can't describe how quickly I go from excited to sad when a mecha premise turns out to be realism wankery.

Well, strictly speaking, we don't have teams of three. We have teams of four with members so inactive we jokingly refer to them by three letters. XD And those are usually corrected when people come and join, filling in previously occupied spots in existing teams. It's how BASL got Lauren, when Trad was booted for inactivity. It's how VGNB got the other B after you were understandably inactive.

RWBY's lore is loose on a lot of things, but team number isn't traditionally one of them. And I could PM Lugu. But going above the heads of... Well, everybody, and talking to the GM in private about matters not specifically related to my team feels dishonest.

If I have an objection, I generally raise it here so people other than me can offer their own thoughts. Because saying just my opinion matters, which is kinda like what going to the GM for this sort of thing is, is pretty egotistical.
A game can be broken just as easily by breaking the lore as breaking the balance, honestly.
Doesn't a five man team kind of unbalance things?

I mean, it's the only one in the entire game. Awesomoman's coming back (if the rumblings Kaithas has passed to me are correct), and I think Trad's getting put into another team (as far as I know). I mean I'd love to have Trad back, but when a couple members of BASL and I talked about it, we were against pushing for him to come back because we didn't want to get rid of anyone on the team. And RWBY's always had four-member teams.

It makes it easier for those teams to complete missions, because even though they scale in difficulty, adding a whole other person makes cooperation much easier. How do we justify the creation of a five man team just the once? Why would Bianca get put back in VGNB, but not Trad back in BASL?

I really hate bringing this up, because I hate feeling like the bad guy for it. But it just seems like a dangerous, and inconsistent, precedent.
Good to have you back, Write, always cool when people return.

But, wouldn't VGNBB be a five person team?
Benjamin Lloyd (BASL Dorm)

Sangue read her letter, Lauren flipped her coin, and Amy was fighting her way through the daze of painkillers. The fourth bed in the room, unlike any of the others, was covered with a chaotic mass of blankets. The mass hadn't been there that morning. It had somehow grown up over the course of the day, coming into existence almost completely unnoticed when no one else had been in the room. A bottle of acetaminophen and a half-empty glass of water stood on the nightstand next to it, but otherwise, the region was completely still. BASL's captain had not been seen for an hour or two, either, but any connection that might have had to the aberrant blanket growth was unexplored.

Until, of course, after Lauren's most recent coin flip effort the mass shifted. The entire mound seemed to scoot across the mattress towards the nightstand, slowly and painstakingly. A single appendage slipped its way out of the mound, reached into the nightstand drawer, and rummaged around. As soon as it had laid hand on what it wanted, apparently a small energy drink, it retreated back into the mound. All was, once again, still.

Until a few minutes later when Benjamin Lloyd finally poked his head out from the cocoon and blinked slowly, surveying the room. Another blink, and the captain idly brushed a few stray groups of hair back into place. Another, and he set the empty can on his nightstand. He stared at each teammate in turn, then sat up, slowly casting off the remnants of his lair.

"S'been a long day." The team captain yawned and stretched. "Whatever we do, and wherever we go, we should make sure there's food. Skipped dinner. Pharmacy might not be bad. Think Amy and I used half the painkillers in the room."

"Anyone got any big ideas for the night?"
King of Diamonds was her only real solution to paralysis.

After using two Face cards, she's down to her mundane spells and evasive skills. XD
Rebekah's brow furrowed in consternation when Nakami started speaking. Why would he think she was out of mana? Queen of Spades was demanding, sure, but she'd practiced. She could manage two Face cards and three Numbers before she needed to recuperate. She'd only used one of each. So why...? Her musings were interrupted the instant she saw the teacher draw slips of paper from his belt. The British teen had seen Alistair take the exam before he, and not only had Nakami not taken out paper then, he hadn't given her a ranking yet.

So as she slipped her old cards into her pocket, she deftly drew a third, careful to keep it concealed in her palm. An easy trick with how much sleight of hand she knew. Having the King of Diamonds at the ready almost seemed paranoid, but something about Nakami's actions screamed 'curveball'. When the first two words out of his mouth weren't a level, or anything close to one, her gut instinct was validated. She had the card flipped to face forward in her hand by the third word, and she was uttering its invocation under her breath by the seventh.

"By the grace of Michael, I persevere." Nakami's papers were flying to her sides before she had even finished saying the spell, and she knew for certain that he'd spoken a spell. Hard to miss. She didn't know what, or why, but she felt pretty justified in her paranoia now. If she'd been a second slower she would have failed. If she had chosen to stand any closer to the proctor when she cast her spells, she would have failed. Observation and chance had given her something of a perfect storm. Not that she had much time to think about it. The papers reached her only just after she finished speaking.

Her teacher finished speaking, either unaware or unconcerned that she had cast her own spell. He'd used a paralysis spell at a weak level. She tested her muscles to see if they remained unimpeded, and to her great delight, she could flex her fingers. And move her limbs. Maybe one of his stronger ones would have overpowered the King, or made their way to her faster, but she'd managed to preempt this one.

She felt pretty good about that, actually.

"So," She raised a hand, as if to ask a question. "Bonus points for preemptive action?"
