Seven decades ago, the Computer Scientist Alan Turing invented an 'Occult Programming Language' that made magic real. The most common form that 'magic' took was the Noble Arm, which was the ability to conjure up a supernatural weapon that can defy the laws of physics, a weapon bound to the user’s mind and soul; summoned by their will into reality. For reasons that are still unexplainable despite years of research, Noble Arms only take the form of weapons from before the First World War, however, despite the antiquity of these forms, the power they bear to the battlefield is unlike anything modern technology has been able to produce.

• The ability to manipulate the elements to the user's will.
• Forces that can reduce matter down to atoms in seconds.
• The strength to withstand the explosion of a nuclear missile.

It is now 2022, and the world is both different and similar to how History should have gone. Trying to redress its humiliation in this world's 1988, China launched an invasion of Southeast Asia, forcing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to attempt a collective defense. Now the Spratly Islands are a battlefield as ASEAN sends its best Arms Masters to bolster a group of allies, the Qing Restoration Society (QRS) whose goals are to replace the Communist Government of China with a Democratic Constitutional Monarchy (or at least, that's what they say!). Now, the QRS have taken the largest Chinese base in the area, but are reliant on outside help to withstand their enemies' counterattacks.

But behind the scenes, greater intrigues continue as not only has it been proven that Alan Turing is still alive, and has mysterious goals involving the Occult Programming Language he used to create Noble Arms, but various Arms Masters on the Chinese side wish to restart the most notorious terrorist organization in this Alternate History - The Hammer of Masters, long-thought crushed by the Seven Virtues and Paragons of Science, organizations with their own secrets and objectives.

For now, though, your objectives, in this conflict, are to survive, then win. Can you do that?

This is an interest check for an ongoing RP, Noble Arms: The ASEAN War, which is in its second mission and third story arc, where the OCs are trying to drive the Chinese Navy out of the Spratly Islands with Indonesian and Vietnamese help, sending supplies to help a dubious group of rebels, the Qing Restoration Society, survive a Chinese Blockade.

Detailed Mission Two Summary

Mission Two Summary: The Siege of Mischief Reef

Mischief Reef/Đá Vành Khăn/Panganiban Reef, an island closer to the Philippines than to China yet occupied and enlarged by the latter, has been seized by a third faction, a group of defectors from China calling themselves the 'Qing Restoration Society'. Led by their New Emperor, a young boy who nevertheless has an A-Rank Noble Arm that can control water, the QRS has driven out the Chinese and devastated the nearby People's Liberation Navy groups in the Spratlys, allowing ASEAN an opening. Your mission, Arms Masters, is to relieve and resupply Mischief Reef before the Chinese counterattack ends the prospect of a new Qing Dynasty; a flotilla of Filipino and Indonesian Ships will act as a diversion as Task Force Obsidian runs the Chinese blockade using a transport plane to relieve and resupply the QRS.

However, even after landing, all will not be well, as the Chinese will be sending a special strike force: Their own 'Foreign Volunteer Brigade', composed of former terrorists who hate the current world order more than they hate each other! Led by Mei Yuanuyan, an Anti-Arms Master terrorist who had grown her own Noble Arm, these Volunteers also have their own cunning, bloody-minded ferocity, and above all, a willingness to bring down the pain...

The ASEAN flotilla is composed of 2 Jose Rizal-class frigates, 1 Pohang-class Corvette, 2 Del Pilar-class patrol vessels from the Philippines, 2 Nagpasa-class submarines, 2 Martadinata-class frigates, 3 Bung Tomo-class corvettes, and 4 Clurit-class Missile Boats from Indonesia, as well as 2 Auxiliary ships filled with supplies. Lotus Squadron will also be flying from Antonio Bautista Air Base in Palawan Island to support all of you by clearing the skies for your transport plane.

Rules

1.) Cooperative storytelling comes first. You are not here to godmode by gaming/breaking the system to make yourself as powerful as possible. You are not here to use your powers to brute-force all obstacles the GM brings before you, or use sophistry, psychological tricks, or 'mental influence magic' to win every diplomatic confrontation. If you find 'Storygaming' an ugly word, this is not the RP for you.
2.) Nor does an angsty backstory that fits various 'story beats' make your character good if their purpose is to defeat everyone and establish themselves as superior top dogs and otherwise make it an arms race with the GM on who can godmode more. If you're not going to use your angsty backstory to make a good story, this is not the RP for you.
3.) That said, powerful characters and angsty backstories are permitted, as long as they are made by players who are willing to cooperate with each other and the GM to make a good dynamic story that isn't just 'X overpowers Y' by bending the rules so far they break, violating the spirit of said rules, and (to quote Dave Brookshaw of Onyx Path publishing) of course, common sense.
4.) I am not as lenient as TheHangedMan. If you cannot obey the prior three rules, you don't need to respond to this thread at all; there are other games for you.
5.) Do not be an asshole.
6.) Post length is five sentences minimum, but longer posts are encouraged, of course. GMs are also bound by this rule.
7.) Characters are supposed to start out no higher than B-Rank in statistical average on their Noble Arm. Note that exceptions can be made for one (two at the most) players who can be trusted to control themselves and not powergame when it weakens the story.
8.) 1 US Dollar is 55 Philippine Pesos - Remember this when you spend money.

Raven had recovered some of his self-confidence with the successful action on the dam, as well as his commitment to the Green Knights and their mission and his trust in his old friend, Gaius Wayne. And he'd saved civilians too, something that warmed his heart.

But as he returned along with his BattleMech, something gnawed at him anyway; what now? What can he do while waiting for the next mission and the next development? Was he just going to do nothing but train and chat and hopefully get some fragment of news? No; he can read a map, this place was within striking distance of Fort Tie Shan, and Cassandra, their new employer, had promised them the possibility of meeting with the head warden. Perhaps it's time to call that in now that they've won a major victory for her interests?

He'll broach the question with Jonathan later; right now, he was heading to their new home to meet up with the Colonel, redeemed and re-bloodied and re-committed. Not that the other members of the expedition, including Sgt. Dalton and his Infantry, were not instrumental to their victory; the Infantry can even be called the real heroes of the operation for taking that tactical warhead - Raven was personally against WMDs, but not against the threat of them.

Now, to find a way to rebuild bridges and seal said rebuilt bridges; Raven was no politician - Andrew was the more politically-minded of his family - But he knew that this was the right opportunity to build goodwill. As his BattleMech entered the old junkyard and the hangars there, he saw that Reya and Ingrid had arrived before they had.

So Raven, once out of his truck, walked out the door, the rare grin on his face hopefully spelling success, success confirmed by his next words, "Mission Accomplished; the Dam is safe."
