Devon the Totodile

Valiant Village, River near Central Plaza

Devon continued to float there in the dark waters under the bridge, still dumbfounded by his regained knowledge as he listened to Dylan reveal his only memories. Finally the Totodile looked back up at the Mudkip with a sad frown as he crossed his arms, shaking his head as well. "Me too. I don't got any info either. I woke up in those woods like this too. Now I can only remember my name, my Dad.....The feeling that I was with some really close friends before this....And that I was human....Sorry."

Staring off into the sunlight past the underside of the bridge, the former human sighed. "What are we gonna do then? We can't remember how we got like this....Where we came from....We gotta ask someone....We need to find out how...." Devon's face then brightened significantly. The reptile snapping his claws then turning back to the Mud Fish. "Hey! We should ask Spirit. Everyone seems to look up to him, so he probably knows something. Let's go!"

Without a second glance, Devon spun around in the water and paddled his way out from under the bridge to climb back onto the bank of the river. Panting, the now drenched Totodile ran over to Celty and the Eevee. A serious expression hardening his scaly face. "Celty, me and Dylan need to head back to the guild to ask Spirit something. You coming with?"

Devon the Totodile

Valiant Village, River near Central Plaza

Dylan actually agreed with his crazy claim, and Devon was actually quite relived. However, the part about his father being the same as him....And Dylan? Puzzled the Totodile as he stared at the Mudkip with a tilted head. His voice still low. "'The same as you and me'? What, amnesiac?"

Devon didn't get an answer to his question. Heck he didn't even get a chance to respond to what happened next. Dylan butted his head against the Totodile's side. Beginning to push him under the bridge and out of view of Celty. The action was sudden, but Devon just kinda looked around and rolled with it. "Uh....Alright?"

Once the two Water-types had stopped under the arc of the bridge, they were alone in the shadows. Dylan apologised for pushing Devon, and apparently had another much weirder question. Devon didn't really have much trouble seeing in the dark due to his status as a little blue crocodile, and focused his sight on Dylan to wave a passing hand at him. "Nah, it's ok. Just let me move myself next time. And shoot. I'm all about crazy."

“Is it possible… Is it possible you were a human?”

The question at first, meant nothing to Devon. He simply stared at Dylan with misty eyes. "...'Human'? Can't say I know what that is but...It seems....Really familiar...."

Going over everything seemed to actually bring about more of the lost Pokémon's memory. Human. The word seemed to tumble around in Devon's head for what felt like hours in the span of a few seconds. He knew what this meant. He knew what this was. The Totodile's cloudy thoughts, hindered by his random affliction of amnesia, were given true clarity for the second time.

Devon's relaxed stance tightened. The Big Jaw Pokémon becoming as stiff as a board while looking past Dylan to the wall with dilated eyes. His bottom jaw hanging open as his senses no longer processed the world around him, instead becoming engrossed in an auditory hallucination.

"It's... incredible how different we all are."

"Yeah. I'd say humans got the short end of the stick when it comes to the stuff we can do though. Pokémon can change weather, fire natural energy lasers, store crazy crap like electricity and fire in the bodies, and evolve in a matter of seconds when it took humans a few million years to do it."

A pause came before the second voice spoke it's next words.

"You're something else alright. Without Pokémon, there's no way we would have made it to where we all are today. So....Thanks. I'm glad we're all able to be friends."

"Well... perhaps, yes in a lot of ways. However, I would say your species' ability to form lasting bonds with each other, as well as Pokémon... and your ability to facilitate friendship between different species of Pokémon as well..."

A soft, familiar chuckling flooded Devon's ears.

"The same can be said for you, too. Thank you Devon."

Devon's dilated pupils soon shrunk back to their normal size, and the reptile blinked rapidly before staring back at the Mudkip bobbing in the water next to him. The Totodile wore a face of bewilderment as low whispers crept out of his jaws.

"Dylan....I remember. I know what a human is. I was human at one point....I had brown hair, brown eyes, pale skin, and alot of scars on my body.....You...You said before that we were the same. You were human too right?"

The former human teen's head hung down as his long snout brushed the water. "How did this happen to us then? Why are we Pokémon?"

Devon froze once Celty called him out for being a bit loud, and awkwardly leaned past Dylan to stare at the Mawile merely a few feet away sitting on the bank. A confused frown on his maw as he really didn't get why they were being....Scolded? Celty didn't seem angry, so what was the problem? "Uh....Ok? Was I being too loud? I'm sorry."

Nevertheless, Devon turned his attention back to Dylan and scaled his voice down to a low whisper. "So that's not weird right? Me not being able to think of what my Dad is? It could just be the whole amnesia thing, but it still bothers me."

[Route 701 Pokémon Center]

Everyone seemed to be into the idea of travelling together, and Devon was all for it. It was rare for him to have a travelling partner join him on his adventures, and he basically never had an entire group to tag along with him. The thought ran through his mind as he slung his backpack over his shoulder and got up from his seat and looked over his apparence to check for errors. Huh. It just kinda hit me that I'm never really hanging around with anyone on my adventures....Well, not anyone human at least. My Pokémon are pretty good company, I'm mostly talking to them since Nasir's usually here to bridge the language gap....It's nice to have other people around though. The boy tucked the strings of his red zip hoodie into the neck hole and flicked his head to signal his team to follow. "Guess it's settled then! Come on guys let's hit it."

Devon and his four Pokémon exited the kitchen just behind Brent and Lily, with Devon taking note of the two other Trainer's signing up for the League right at the counter. The teen's hand grabbed at his backpack to remove his Viore model Pokédex. His brown eyes staring at the little red device and tapping it with his thumbs. ....Crap. I forgot. Do I need to sign up for the League to even be able to participate in Gym battles? I haven't done this in a while....Maybe I can ask?

After Brent and Lily walked away from the counter, Devon took his place at the front desk and waved at the nurse near the computer. A warm smile on his face. "Hey, do I need to sign up for the Viore league to be able to compete in Gym battles? If so, sign me up too." He gingerly held up his Pokédex over the counter. "I uh...Just got this Dex yesterday, so I don't got any of my info on it. You want me to just use my Trainer card, my other Dex or....?" Feeling lost, Devon bit his lip as he looked at the nurse.

Seeing Dylan splash around and finally look happy for once, of course made Devon feel happy. The little Totodile chuckled at the scene of a Mudkip just being totally lost in the water's embrace. "Told ya."

Dylan came close, finally whispering to Devon the question he had wanted to ask all morning. It certainly came off as odd to the reptile, but it did get him thinking. Devon repositioned himself in the water so his head was the only thin above the surface. Staring at Dylan with misty brown eyes. "No....It's not crazy....It's just....Weird. Totodile don't have a pre-evolution. And how could I just....Be something else and turn into a Totodile? Pretty sure I'm not a Ditto either...."

The lost Big Jaw Pokémon put his claws to the sides of his head and shook it rapidly. "Ugh...But you know what? Your question just gives me MORE questions. I know I have a Dad. I REMEMBER my Dad. Thing is though, I can't think of what he actually is. I don't think he's a Feraligatr....And I can't think of any other Pokémon that he could be...It just doesn't feel right to even think of him as any sort of Pokémon....." He removed his hands from his head and gave an odd frown to the Mud Fish. "Does THAT sound crazy? What else could he be besides a Pokémon?"
