The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Emeth: Then I'll be that friend who's the opposite kind of annoying, whispering "Do it, you know you want to..."

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.
I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.
No sooner had she spoken, Jess picked up on a gut-churning feeling from the other woman. Contempt. She winced. She knew she should be thankful she wasn't getting the full force of this person's emotions, but she didn't want to bother Roxy any more than she had to.
How did people appear confident, again? Had she really forgotten how to interact with others? If so, she had no choice but to relearn. Straightening her back, Jess forced herself to look directly at Roxy.
"I only have a little to take. I'll sort it out right now," she replied, making a start on gathering up her belongings. Roxy shouldn't have to think she'd need to constantly run around after her.
Jess had imagined, over and over for the past five years, what this moment would be like. She'd been worried she'd end up stuck with someone who pitied her, saw her as some helpless waif. At least this woman wasn't like that... but this situation was hardly much better.
"I..." And now here she was, freezing up like some rabbit in the headlights. Pull yourself together! she mentally yelled at herself. She recalled the taunts at school, while she'd grown increasingly desperate to find someone who could help her hold on to stability. Jess the mess, some people had called her. She couldn't come across that way now. Roxy didn't need that.
And yet, mixed emotions coursed through her. Not that she was any stranger to those. At least most of it was her own this time, or so she assumed. Relief at her chance to get out of here, mixed with frustration and guilt at her dependency. She'd had plenty of time to make plans for her return to society, plans that sounded workable in theory. The reality was, though, resuming her life would mean taking away somebody else's.
"I'm Jess," she said, trying to sound as together as possible. She attempted a smile, which turned out more of a grimace. "And there isn't much here... It's ok."
It wasn't ok. Things were anything but ok for either of them.
Frowning as she glanced around at the other people and creatures around the room, Kimberly took a seat next to a woman with dark blonde hair. She nodded at her comment. "Agreed. I take it you don't know any more than I do..."
The serpent slithered over, his body flowing like water. "I thought I told you. You're dead. Dearly departed. Six feet under. Don't you start thinking this is some kind of second chance. We've only got one purpose now, and you'll find that out soon enough."
Kimberly turned her attention back to the creature. Now she'd recovered from the initial shock, it was surprising how quickly she'd adapted to the presence of a large, sharp-fanged sea monster. It felt as if he was somehow connected to her. Part of her.
"Well, first of all," she said, a slight waver to her voice despite her effort to keep her tone and expression neutral. "Who are you?"
The monster gave her that crimson stare. "Call me Cetus," he hissed, "and you could say we're alike. Born from death. Born to bring it to those who try to escape it."
Jess flinched at the harsh knock on the door. Annoyance simmered off the anchor like heat from fire, although there was something muted about it. Tolerable. This truly was the person who could help her - even if this person was less than happy about her role.
Breathing deeply, Jess edged forward and opened the door. "H-Hi," she muttered, not sure what else to say. Her own reaction to the girl unsettled her. She'd never been a shy person before, but it had been a long time since she'd had any proper contact with people. She had Internet access here, although the connection was so slow it was near-useless, and she spoke to her mother on the phone when the line worked. This, though, was the first chance to talk face-to-face with someone she'd had in years.
And, as her luck would have it, it was someone who would rather be anywhere but here right now - quite understandably. This was someone who must have lost everything, just as she had.
"Ligeia, help Rose out and use Disarming Voice!" Cici called. Hopping down, the Jigglypuff put her new skills to use, a shrill cry and a burst of pink hearts leaving her mouth. Tommy's Ralts joined the fray, using the exact same attack. "Now, Dulcet, hit the Fraxure with Moonblast!" An image of the moon appeared in front of the Swablu, releasing a ray of light that sent the largest dragon tottering back.
"Watch out, Kym!" The Axew moved in to swipe at Kymbalon, claws glowing green, but Ligeia jumped in the way of the attack. The Dual Chop glanced harmlessly off her rubbery body. "Whew... Good work, Ligeia! Quick, use Disarming Voice again! Kymbalon, use Dragon Tail!"
With the combined efforts of the three trainers' Pokemon, it wasn't long until the dragons had either fainted or hurried away. The Fraxure was the last to slump to the ground.
"Everyone alright?" Cici asked, looking around. Her Pokemon were still standing, but all looked rather bashed up, bearing bite and scratch marks. "Let's go back and get you healed up..."
She whirled around as a wall caved in, rocks clattering across the ground. A set of sharp steel claws burst through. With a startled cry, Cici pulled back.
"I told you, don't bother the other Pokemon here!" came a voice. "Focus on Entei!"
In a drill-like motion, the man's Pokemon launched itself forward, sending more rocks flying. It landed, glaring around for its target from under the blade on its head, its gaze settling on the group of trainers in its way.
