The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

Bio

A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.

I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.

@OtomostheCrazy Yay, good to have you back Oto!

Right now we're around level 12-13, it's late afternoon, and there are plenty of wild Pokemon around. Maybe Alexis could be wandering around in a daze after meeting Mistress Hollow? Also, most of the group's headed to the Pokemon centre so you could meet us there if you want.

As for Deneb, if you want to do the gym battle, just let me know. Heckno's busy and has patchy Internet connection at the moment, so he's put me in charge of his duties for now.

Btw I'm doing a second pic for you :)
Jessamyn "Jess" Bailey

A cafe wasn't exactly where Jess wanted to go, given what had happened at lunchtime, but if she hid from the world, the risks Roxy was taking for her would be for nothing. She followed the anchor, shuddering as she thought back to the man from earlier, that nod, that smug feeling of satisfaction. Would they run into anyone else like that?

Even as Roxy unlocked the door to fresh evening air, Jess couldn't help but feel trapped, undoubtedly because the anchor did. They were bound to each other, whether or not they wanted to be, and bound to whoever was trying to use the situation to their advantage.

The empath listened out, waiting for the telltale sound of a beep from her phone, and wondering what else she could say in response to protect both her mother and Roxy.
Gabrielle Angouras

Once the last Noctowl had fainted, the Gallade rushed over. At his statement that they should have escaped five minutes ago, Gabrielle gave a short, breathless laugh. "Then why didn't you get us out?" she asked. Ok, maybe he'd had trouble concentrating, or was still getting the hang of his abilities, or both, but couldn't he have at least tried?

She supposed she couldn't really complain. He'd helped save her from ending up as the Noctowls' breakfast, even if he'd gone about it the risky and difficult way.

Before the Gallade could take her and the Gothitelle to safety, Gabrielle spun round at a growl. A short distance away, a Mightyena crouched - not a particularly strong-looking one, but a Mightyena nonetheless, fangs bared and eyes glinting with hunger.

Gabrielle's breath caught with sheer terror as the wild Pokemon leapt forward. In less than a second, the strangest feeling besides that of having been turned into a Lopunny swept over her. As the scene became a blurring whirl, she went lightheaded, her stomach jerking as if she were falling, her body seeming to turn insubstantial. When everything came back into focus, she found herself in a grand foyer, standing in front of a Roserade.

Immediately rushing over, the Roserade asked if anyone was hurt. "I-I'm fine," Gabrielle insisted, even though the bruise on her head still ached, she couldn't stop trembling, and the room swayed nauseatingly around her from the teleporting. When the Gallade suggested cleaning her up, she took one look at herself and cringed. Mud dripped from her fur onto the floor.

She nodded at the mention of a dress. "There'd better be." Being naked shouldn't have been a big deal as she was covered in fur, but she couldn't help feeling somewhat awkward, and a stylish outfit was something she simply couldn't be without. The question was, though, how would there be anything around that would fit a Lopunny?

It still felt too unreal to truly sink in. In just about an hour, she'd gone from a famous face concerned with getting to a party on time, to a Pokemon concerned with getting away from predators on time. How could this be happening to someone like her?

Mira

"I'll be alright," Mira reassured Alexander. "It's nothing a little rest won't help with." She gave a wan smile, then leaned on Florentine as he led her towards her room. "You're ok, aren't you?" she asked the Gallade, blinking and squinting up at him. The light she'd been teleported from the darkening forest into wasn't helping her headache.

"Note to self. When using psychic power, restraint is key," she mumbled as she reached her door. Turning the handle, she looked back over at Florentine. "Don't worry about me. I just hope the new girl's going to be ok." With that, she staggered inside.

The other servants would help the best they could, she was sure, but it didn't take a psychic to predict what would happen later on. Jean and the Lopunny would undoubtedly clash.
@Balthazar007 Since none of those are ones Zarkun particularly likes, would it be possible to have us run into other Pokemon as we're looking?
Mira

Gripping the Lopunny's arm again, Mira ran as fast as her stubby legs would allow. Florentine had ways of defending himself against Flying types, she reminded herself, but that didn't stop her worry from growing the further she and Gabrielle fled.

Hearing a crackling impact, she saw the image in her mind before she turned around. The largest, oldest Noctowl fell to the ground and was still, feathers sparking. Thunder Punch, a move that was usually tutored, but could be self-taught with enough patience and adaptability, both strong points of the guard turned Gallade. The two other birds kept their distance, their heads flipping upside down. Even from this distance, Mira could feel their auras grow intense with deep thought. "Now's our chance," she projected into Florentine's mind. "Let's go!"

As one owl readied a pink luminous orb - a Moonblast - Mira reacted instantly. Fatigue, stress and inexperience meant her psychic attack only gave the Noctowl a slight push backwards, but its sphere of light disappeared as its concentration broke. Feeling a presence move in to the side, the Gothitelle spun round, mustering all the energy she could and desperately firing it at the other Noctowl.

This time, it worked, though not in the way she'd intended. A feeling of weightlessness came over her as she rose a foot off the ground to the swooping Noctowl's level, sending three glowing blue and purple blobs slamming into it. With a shriek, the bird plummeted and lay unconscious. Utterly drained, Mira was the next to fall. She staggered back upon landing, then toppled into the grass.

Was that Psyshock she'd just used, instead of Psychic? Whatever it had been, she most likely wouldn't be capable of much more for the time being.

Gabrielle Angouras

Spurred on through the dizziness by adrenaline, Gabrielle fled alongside one Psychic type, glancing back at the other. Her breath came in short, shaky bursts as her ribs tightened. How well would these two, still adapting to their forms, be able to fight?

Better than she'd thought, it turned out, as the Gallade blocked an attack and retaliated by throwing an electrified punch. One Noctowl fainted instantly, the other two standing rooted to the spot as their feathers fluffed and their heads turned upside down. Those owls had to flee, Gabrielle thought, furry fingers clenching. Surely they'd flee...

It all happened faster than she could process. Pink light welled, then faded as the Gothitelle's eyes flared blue again and one bird shuffled back a step. Taking advantage of the psychics' distraction, the other owl took to the air and tried to slip past the Gallade, but the next thing Gabrielle knew, the Gothitelle had begun to float up, a blue-purple glow surrounding her. Three orbs formed from the glow and shot at the descending predator, knocking it from the sky.

The outline of light faded from the Gothitelle, who dropped and stumbled before collapsing. Gabrielle hopped right over to her, trying to help her up. "Please get up!" she begged. The exhausted Psychic type attempted to stand, only to groan and fall again, looking ready to pass out. "Dammit, I said get up!" Gabrielle could barely speak through her dry mouth. She wasn't normally one to give others much thought, but people getting hurt trying to protect her... This was a different matter than usual.

I wish it was easy and exciting as day one, when we were bright eyed and filled with wonder. Mililani could relate to those words more than Liz knew. She sighed as she watched the bouncy girl try again, just as full of enthusiasm as she herself had been when she'd first caught her Cutiefly. Her heart ached for her other Pokemon. Did they think she'd forgotten about them, their unwavering loyalty repaid with abandonment?

"I know," she replied with a solemn nod. It seemed so much colder when she thought about things like this, youthful dreams versus harsh truths. "I know they will. I j-just hope they don't get let down too harshly."

At the sound of a hauntingly beautiful howl, she stared ahead. Her breath caught. Before the group stood a Pokemon that had once been worshipped as a deity in Alola, a Ninetales. Mililani kept her distance. Calm as Ice-type Ninetales were, it wasn't a good idea to provoke them.

As both Pokemon disappeared into the distance, Sergeant Solokov announced it truly was time to go back. "At least the V-Vulpix has its mother around," Mililani commented. "M-Maybe it isn't ready to be caught just yet. Well, Ohanna, let's get going."

Ohanna's attention wasn't on the foxes, but on another Lucario, the one belonging to the swordsman. Her eyes narrowed, her fur bristling, as she stood between her trainer and the other Fighting type. Mililani ignored the looks of distrust both the trainer and his Lucario gave her. She knew she wasn't exactly the most approachable person, but putting a wall between herself and others was better than taking the risk of letting them in... wasn't it?

Once everyone arrived back at the headquarters, Mililani sank into a chair, thankful for the warmth. It wasn't long before a fire was set crackling in the hearth, and she leaned closer to the blaze. The sooner the group left Russia, the better.

@Cerces22 @Zarkun

After the goth girl's second attempt failed, Ryan stepped over to give her a pro tip or two - he'd been the only successful one so far, after all. He opened his mouth to say something, then stood rooted to the spot at the sight of an Alolan Ninetales. An even more majestic sight in real life than in the games. Before he or anyone else could observe it for long, both foxes turned and left.

"You might want to try taking it a little more slowly next time," he told the girl while on the way back. "At least those Pokeballs haven't gone to waste."

Although ready to keel over by the time he stepped inside, he was still brimming with elation. He had his own Pokemon. His own real live Pokemon. Keeping some distance from the fire one of the assistants began to set up - a Grass type might get nervous if too close to it - he pulled the Pokeball from his pocket and pressed the button.

Red light formed a mushroom shape, then faded to reveal the Foongus. The little red and white Pokemon turned this way and that on its stalk, taking in its new surroundings.

Ryan crouched down, grinning even though his legs nearly gave out from the way he'd pushed himself too hard. "Hopefully you'll be much more comfortable in here, little guy," he said as the Foongus hopped closer. He took out his new Pokedex, testing it out even though he already knew the entries for this species. "Uhh... Or rather, little girl."

As he turned his attention from the screen back to his new friend, he thought over what to call her, the name of a famous mycologist popping into his head. "Gilkey. You can be Gilkey. You like that?" The Foongus smiled in agreement.

Both trainer and Pokemon turned at a clashing sound, and a cry of fascination. In a corner of the room, the swordsman and his Gallade sparred, swinging their blades with expert skill. The guy who'd failed to catch the Foongus stared, enthralled.

"Yeah, got to say that's pretty impressive," Ryan commented, also captivated for a moment by the Pokemon in action, before glancing down at Gilkey to make sure she wasn't too jittery around the guy who'd startled her back there. She tilted her cap, staying where she was at first, then took a little hop forward, her former apprehensiveness replaced with curiosity.

@Cerces22 Working on my post, it should be done today.
Jessamyn "Jess" Bailey

For the next hour, Jess braced herself for the arrival of other sketchy customers, but to her relief the next person who came in gave off much warmer, calmer emotions. Able to fake composure somewhat, or at least she hoped, she took the guy's details. Once he left, the empath pulled her phone from her pocket, staring at the black screen for a second before sighing and switching the device on. She couldn't put this off any longer.

The email was just as she'd expected, but her heart still sank as she read it. At least she could tell some of the truth - her mother wanted to know if Roxy was treating her well. Yes, the anchor was, despite that cold facade she put up. She was going to any lengths necessary to keep her safe.

Carefully considering the wording, Jess typed up a reply as she waited for the customer's return.

Hi Mom,

Really, it's all good. Please don't worry, Roxy's just a little awkward around people she doesn't know, but since the day I got out, she's helped me so, so much. She's doing everything she can to make sure I'm ok. Trust me, things are going to be fine from now on.

Thanks for coming over yesterday, it was great to see you again!

Love, Jess

She sent the email, squirming at the lies she'd mixed in with the truth - and at a thought that occured to her. How would she avoid putting others in danger? How would she see family, or make friends, without dragging them into this mess?

The thought nagged at her from the back of her mind for the rest of the afternoon, even as she served customers and sorted through papers. It didn't help that, after a point, there wasn't much for her to do, meaning few distractions. Once it had gone seven, Roxy closed up the shop without a word. Jess didn't feel so much hurt as worried by the anchor's aloofness, now she knew some of the reason for it.

When Roxy finally spoke, it was to ask about dinner. "I'm ok with another soup," Jess replied, still not exactly hungry, so it didn't really matter to her what she had. "And about earlier... About the way you stood up to that guy." She gave a hint of a smile. "Thanks."

A proud grin spread over Ryan's face as he held up the newly-occupied Pokeball. "You see? That's how you go about it," he lectured the others. Didn't that other guy know that running up to a wild animal and throwing things at it would only spook it? He hoped his fellow beginner trainer hadn't scared the Foongus too much. At least the mushroom Pokemon had visibly relaxed afterwards, enough to go along with him.

As much as he wanted to get back to headquarters and spend time with his new Pokemon, the mission's objective still wasn't complete. His spirits bolstered, he sprinted to the front. He was, after all, the first of the group to catch a Pokemon...

Twenty minutes later, it turned out expending his strength like that hadn't been the best move. Gritting his teeth and trying to ignore the stitch developing in his side, he forced himself to keep going as people began to outspeed him. This wasn't a race, at least not to the others, but no way was he going to break his streak of success. Mustering his remaining energy, he made a wild dash towards the front...

And promptly fell forward into the snow, sending powder flying up. Cringing at the sound of snickering, he staggered to his feet and dusted off his coat. "Heh, laugh all you want!" he called to the two people who rushed ahead, their jeers continuing. "I st-still beat you to it in the P-Pokemon catching department!" Trying to stop his teeth chattering, he patted the round shape of the Pokeball zipped up in his pocket. No matter what, he reminded himself, he was the first official trainer on the project. Maybe, once those two idiots had their own Pokemon, he'd show them a thing or two in a battle.

Despite the ache in his bruised knees, he resumed a jog, only for people to slow down around him. Just when the sargeant announced it was time to head back, something caught everyone's attention. A short distance away stood an Alolan Vulpix, wagging its tail like a friendly little puppy.

The bubbly goth girl he'd seen around a few times seized the opportunity, bouncing forward and throwing a Pokeball. Just a moment after vanishing into it, the Vulpix popped back out, seemingly treating this as a form of play as it batted the capsule around.

Considering the girl's enthusiasm and the fact that he already had a Pokemon, Ryan wasn't going to go for this one, but he peered closer. This was a good observation opportunity, and maybe he'd have to gently advise the goth girl if she made any more mistakes.

Mililani Kekoa
May 7th, Norilsk, Russia

@Cerces22

Flexing her numb fingers above the Monferno's flames, Mililani watched a blond-haired guy's attempt at catching the Foongus, this time successful. For a moment, given the way he'd comforted the poor nervous Pokemon, it looked like he might have the right idea. Then of course he had to go and brag, casting more than a shadow of doubt over whether the capture had been entirely for the Pokemon's sake, if at all.

"D-Don't you let it g-go to your head," she warned, barely able to speak for shivering, before everyone resumed running. An eternity seemed to pass as the bleak landscape stretched endlessly on with no sight of the Ice type the group was so keen on finding.

When the sergeant finally announced it was time to call it a day, Mililani slowed her pace. "W-Well, hopefully the Ice type will do alright out here until s-someone can find it," she muttered to the pink-haired girl and the two Pokemon. "And th-thanks, Hephaestus." Although she had a Fire type of her own, she wasn't letting Keahi out here, considering his possible unpredictable reactions to wild Pokemon.

The sudden appearance of the Pokemon they'd nearly given up on, a Vulpix with white fur that marked it as being from Mt Lanakila, drew everyone over. Shivering violently despite the nearby Fire-type's warmth, Mililani observed from a distance. Many of the Earth people, she'd noticed, had this fascination with certain Pokemon from Alola, specifically the ones with different forms in other regions.

Just as she'd expected, someone rushed right forward, flinging a Pokeball. Mililani shook her head, letting out a long, drawn-out huff, breath misting into the air. Unsurprisingly, the fox leapt back out of the capsule. Why did so many people think charging over and hurling a Pokeball before the Pokemon even knew what was going on was the best way to catch one?

"Oh d-dear Arceus, what is w-with this bunch?" she mumbled to the girl who'd let out the Monferno, in Poke so nobody from Earth would understand. Given the earlier act of kindness, she wasn't going to entirely shut out this woman, but she wasn't going to let her too close either. From what she'd heard, Liz had a reputation as a champion, and some champions went to any extreme to reach the top. Extremes she hoped none of these beginners would end up resorting to.
Mililani Kekoa
May 7th, Norilsk, Russia

"Good going, Ohanna." Panting, Mililani turned away from the punching bag to her Lucario, who gave her own bag one more hook before stepping back and grinning up at her trainer. The Fighting type didn't seem tired in the slightest. "Heh... Maybe I shouldn't have tried to compete with a Lucario," she said with a breathless laugh. "But how about one more round?" This was so much better than slaving away in that Arceus-forsaken Russian weather with that overexcitable bunch who didn't have the first idea what they were doing, and a good way of working off pent-up irritation...

Which of course surged right back at the sound of babbling and footsteps, followed by an argument. Then, an unexpected noise made both her and Ohanna whirl round. A gunshot.

"What in the name of the Island Guardians...?" Mililani rushed from the training room to the lobby, where the seargent stood pointing his gun at a broken window. His and Professor Rowan's announcement stirred up mixed emotions. Soon, it would be time to do what they were all here for in the first place, help the stranded wild Pokemon, although Mililani couldn't help but wonder what these upcoming trainers' idea of helping would be.

...

Julia and the Earth girl weren't the only ones to butt heads. Since getting a Pokedex, one girl who seemed to have modelled herself on one of those Hex Maniac trainers from Hoenn and Kalos, complete with tangled black wig, kept yammering away at anyone within earshot that this was the best thing that had ever happened on boring old Earth.

"So... Let me get this right," Mililani snapped, hands on hips. By now she had a fairly decent, if still heavily accented, mastery of English. "Towns got destroyed, trainers and Pokemon are stuck here with no idea how the fuck to get back, people DIED... and you're saying it's the best thing that ever happened?!"

The girl, who called herself Lilith but the officials addressed as Laura, snickered. "Pfff, that's their problem. And just think!" Her purple contact lenses shone. "Maybe that means more Ghost types for us!"

Stunned speechless, Mililani could only think of one thing to do. She stepped forward, raising her hand. Before the slap could hit home, a white flipper settled on her shoulder. "Rinaaa," Naia soothed, with a gentle pull. Mililani took a deep, shuddering breath. Then, both girls turned round at the sound of a cough, finding themselves faced with a rather unamused assistant of Professor Rowan.

"May I suggest that both of you rein it in if you want to stay on the project," the assistant warned. "As you'll undoubtedly know, there's only so much Seargent Solokov will put up with. Besides, Professor Rowan's speech is about to begin."

Seething, Mililani stormed towards the lobby. If she got kicked out, maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing. "Can you believe we're stuck with this bunch?" she grumbled to Naia, whose blue eyes were wide with concern. One good thing that had happened here, at least, was thanks to the training facilities and people willing to battle, Naia had once again become a Primarina.

When the Professor followed his lecture by asking the crowd to decide which Pokemon to find, Mililani raised her hand. She knew the question had been meant for the Earth people, but she had some input of her own. "I say either the Grass types or the Stantlers should be our main concern," she announced. Mushroom Pokemon generally dealt with the cold better than most Grass types did, but temperatures below zero were still a major issue. "Most Grass types will have trouble surviving here, and the Stantlers are surely struggling to find food..."

A chorus of voices drowned out her suggestion, settling the vote. The Ice type. Mililani rolled her eyes. Of course. Of freaking course everyone would go for the one that could actually thrive best here, just because it seemed to be one of the more sought after types.

"Remind me again why I signed up for this," she muttered to Naia under her breath.

...

In truth, she knew why she'd signed up. As she reluctantly jogged with the trainers-to-be, Ohanna ran by her side, scanning the area for any sickly or distressed Pokemon. When the group came to a sudden stop, the Lucario's effortless sprinting nearly caused her to crash into the guy in front - not what anyone would want a Pokemon with three protruding spikes to do.

"Careful there." With her hand on Ohanna's shoulder, Mililani peered ahead. Sure enough, they'd encountered a Pokemon. Not one she'd ever seen in person before, but she'd seen enough pictures to know what the tiny red-and-white mushroom was. A Foongus.

As one man tried and failed to catch it, Mililani tensed. What if it didn't want to be caught? It hadn't tried attacking or fleeing, and yes, it was better off under a trainer's care than out in the cold, but would said trainer see things that way? Or was everyone so hyped up about catching Pokemon that they'd forgotten why they were meant to do so in the first place?

Ryan Harrell
May 7th, Norilsk, Russia

Ryan had managed to keep a steady pace near the front for most of the run, spurred on by the anticipation of getting his first Pokemon. He still could hardly believe it, three Pokeballs and a Pokedex of his own. His brother would be so jealous. Now, though, his muscles began to complain, unused to quite this amount of jogging despite his regular outdoor activities. How much longer would the search take?

As it turned out, it barely took any longer at all. The guy he'd been struggling not to lag behind approached something, the rest of the group gathering round. Ryan advanced, noticing something red standing out against the snow. Something that looked like a Pokeball partially hidden behind a bush, but as he drew closer, he recognised the Pokemon that had popped up several times during his search for items in Pokemon Black.

So that was what a Foongus looked like in real life. As odd as it was to see a mushroom with a face, that pattern was rather striking. Since its introduction in Generation Five, Ryan had found it rather underappreciated, and it turned out the guy who'd spotted it shared that view as he flung a Pokeball.

... Or not. The moment the Foongus burst out, the guy gave up, dismissing it as a "stupid damned mushroom."

Remembering the Pokedex entry about its toxic spores, Ryan kept a safe distance, but the mushroom Pokemon showed no signs of hostility. Instead, it hopped out, stopping in its tracks when it saw the crowd.

"Hey, it's alright," Ryan reassured it, slowly approaching and crouching down. "I know this must be confusing, but it'll be better for you to come with one of us than stay stuck out here." Hoping he'd managed to calm the Foongus somewhat, he reached for a Pokeball. "Well, here goes!" Thankful for all the after-school basketball practice he'd had as a teen, he threw the capsule. It hit its target, which disappeared in a flare of red light.

Ryan watched the Pokeball rocking on the ground, tension growing. Would he be the first of the group to get a Pokemon?
