Bio

Current GM of World of Light. When it comes to writing, there's nothing I love more than imagination, engagement, and commitment. I'm always open to talk, suggestion, criticism, and collaboration. While I try to be as obliging, helpful, and courteous as possible, I have very little sympathy for ghosts, and anyone who'd like to string me along. Straightforwardness is all I ask for.

Looking for more personal details? I'm just some dude from the American south; software development is my job but games, writing, and trying to help others enjoy life are my passions. Been RPing for over a decade, starting waaaay back with humble beginnings on the Spore forum, so I know a thing or two, though I won't pretend to be an expert. If you're down for some fun, let's make something spectacular together.

Name: Phobetor

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Job: God of Nightmares (See here)

Appearance:

Personality: At the core of Phobetor is a cowardly bully. To protect his own insecurities and fear, he enjoys preying upon the fear of others. This trait comes in conflict with his innate sense of duty, inherited from his father. Phobetor is intelligent, and knows both not to bite off more than he can chew and that there is a time and place for everything. He also sincerely believes that, because of his actions, nobody can ever be his friend or love him. To say he has low self-esteem would be an understatement. To Phobetor, the world is full of people out to get him, and he's no worse than the rest of them.

History: Phobetor is one of the Oneiroi, a daimon son of Hypnos, the personification of sleep, and he is also the grandson of night -Nyx- and darkness -Erebus-. From his birth, he, the middle child, gravitated towards darkness. His toxic personality estranged him from his brothers Morpheus and Phantasus, the gods of dreams and illusions, respectively. When the three came of age, their father sent them westward to seek a new home. Over the mountains and islands of Greece the brothers traveled in mortal form, disguised as a painter, a butcher, and a soothsayer. They faced many hardships in their trials, from tangling with the Centaurs and their poison-tipped arrows to taking down angry river gods. To the people they met on their way, the brothers brought their respective gifts. While mankind grew to love Morpheus and respect Phantasus, they only feared Phobetor, making him all the more bitter.

At last, the Oneiroi traversed the western Mediterranean and arrived at their destination: the Cave of Images. There, the brothers settled down, crafting enormous gates made of ivory and buckhorn. In that cave, each honed their talents, training their gifts until they could share dreams, nightmares, and illusions with the world.

It wasn't long before Phobetor grew dissatisfied. After a string of egregious failures, Phobetor decided to leave his brothers behind, promising he'd return. Returning to wander among men, he sought a place where he could learn how to become a real god. To that end, he found and joined the School of Deities, confident for once that he was on the road to greatness.

Powers/Duties: As the God of Nightmares, Phobetor's chief duties are to punish the guilty with night terrors and balance good dreams with the bad for everyone, ensuring that neither light or darkness gain the upper hand. To this purpose, he can enter dreams and contort them to his own design. Even in the real world, he can shapeshift into all manner of beasts (though the Law of Conservation of Matter still applies) and weave shadows into physical forms. He also surrounds himself in magical artifacts, including:
Vox - this pipe flute is capable of creating a variety of eerie sounds, like growling, rumbling, laughing, crying, fire, and wind
Aliter - an embellished pocketwatch-shaped container strung about Phobetor's neck. Within, it contains soul of every creature his can turn into, allowing him to shift between each at will, and if separated from the medallion, he is trapped in his current form. To add new forms to his index, he must use Aliter to absorb the soul of the creature. He cannot become mythical creatures when in normal areas.
Relief - a rapier with a pommel shaped like a cattle skull. While not practical to use in a fight, it is a lethal weapon.
So I think this all proves that Ozpin doesn't have the best judgement when it comes to safety.

I really hope Ironwood doesn't turn out to be the stereotypical military guy who was a villain all along.
While you're being very polite about it, not knowing what you want while knowing what you don't want is something that plagues me.

Very well, looks like a complete rewrite is in order. I'll go with the Phobetor route. I'll see if I can't make him work.
Forgive me, I'm just drawing a blank on how to improve him. Do you have any suggestions?

I could make it so that rather than simply survive a year at the school, Riot's job is to place individuals among the School of Deities asleep using Hypnos's powers, which in turn adds to Hypnos's domain. It's a sort of insidious, tricky thing to do; as he goes throughout the year, making others fall asleep, his master's power grows. I can change his personality to be more somber and subversive.

Alternatively, I could literally make Phobetor into my character, a young daimon trying to learn how to become the God of Nightmares.
I think since Priscilla, Tai, Greyson, and Robert are way ahead of the curve, either you guys might want to slow down posting, or Irish, you might want to give them a new task. Perhaps some sort of beast assaults the airship and they must defend it? When GBACK arrives, it can help out as well.
Edits are done. I think it works together better now, but if you want me to go a completely different route (Riot was made by Hypnos) or choose something else altogether, I understand.
Well, the idea was based on Marowit being a fairly minor and unknown god, of such a low degree that he can only endow previously existing beings with his powers and not make any. I can edit it to replace Marowit with the better-known sleep god Hypnos. As for your ideas of what 'should' be, I'm not going to do against your wishes but a little creative liberty will be appreciated. I'll make the edits and see what you think.
Not bad, Esayo. Let's see what Overwatch has to say about our guys.
Name: Riot
Age: 5, though he appears to be more like 15
Gender: Male
Job: Suppliant of Hypnos
Appearance:

Riot's skin is made of a spongy resin, as clearly visible. While human in shape, his hands and feet mark him as something else. Plus, there's always that repulsive tail poking out of his lower back. The tail is part of an organism that is symbiotic to Riot's being, a vile worm that remains hidden behind Riot's resin face. The mask will split in half vertically and slide sideways to let the Lindwurm out. The blues he wears are the colors of Hypnos, and worn to honor him.

Personality: Unexpectedly for a being created to be a one-monster army, Riot is a pretty cool guy. He is outgoing, headstrong, sarcastic, excitable, and mischievous, much like an average teenage boy. When put under duress, his more monstrous side begins to show, and he becomes sporadic, loopy, and even sadistic. Even normally he takes a certain delight in surprising and scaring people. He does have a proclivity for servitude, but since Hypnos is currently candidate for that role, this isn't a factor. Ever since receiving

Powers/Duties: Since his inception, Riot has been able to create images of himself to stand, work, or fight by his side. This is an instantaneous and mental feat; he simply has to think it, and a clone will appear. These copies are no stronger than he, and the more he has, the more strained his telepathic link is and the less complicated things they all can do. He can also release the Lindwurm from inside him, or allow it to poke out briefly to strike. Being essentially two parts of the same being, both resin statue and abyssal monster act as one, even when not touching.

As the Suppliant of Hypnos, Riot has gained a few new abilities. By yawning, he creates an intense drowsiness in those around him, and by holding in the yawn he can put himself to sleep instantly. When under the effect of this magical slumber, he quickly heals any damage done to him. He has received basic training from Hypnos in a discipline called Soporific Palms. After imbuing his palms with gray mist, Riot's strikes cause the victim to become more tired, effectively making him able to incapacitate foes without actually harming them.
Welp, in light of two roleplays I'm in currently being on hiatus, I went looking and I found a sort-of interesting RP called A School for Deities. I figure a few more people joining in or at least looking into it would really help it get off the ground, so if any of the twenty of you think you're interested, check it out.

...and now I've used up my allotted Shameless Advertising for this thread. Oh well.
