As Cascade's tone shifted, he noted the sound of concern and appearance of distraction. "We'll figure out what is causing this. Then we'll figure out how to stop it." He said in an attempt to be encouraging.

The Esjour Plains

It is about mid-day, and the settlement is quiet save for the folk clearing the rubble of the fallen tower. A few other can be seen digging outside the walls, adding to the mound of stones while putting a small trench out infront of the walls. A human is directing the unloading a set of wagons at a small stone building next to the spire, while two others are moving the items to their designated areas in the structure.

There are a several other buildings, two with crude signs hanging outside noting possible places of business or importance. The semblance of a road continues east out of the settlement further into a rocky plains with a mountain range in distant view.

Character Sheet

Name: Samuel "Sam" Price

Age: 23

Looks: 5'7" 150 pounds. Tanned weather worn skin tone. Leaner body build from years of working on a farm for most of his life. Dark brown almost black hair kept short, 2" at the longest, and keeps his face clean shaven. Grey green eye color.

He wears a simple uniform most times, loose fitting pants and shirt, ball cap when not in the field. When in the field he has a helmet with goggles and face covers paired with the bits of armor he was able to salvage and piece meal together. The chest and back plates are from NCR combat armor, the arms and legs are metal plates strapped to his limbs with cloth padding under them.
Personality: Typically quiet, keeps to himself. Stays busy repairing, maintaining, cleaning, and modifying things. He has spent the much of the last several years repressing the trama of loosing his family and during his service in the NCR, and the emotions came with it.

Backstory: Samuel Price Jr was born to two settlers from the NCR, Samuel Price Sr and Rebecca Price. The pair were originally farmers in the NCR, but signed up for the NCRs program to settle the wastes when they were forced to sell their land to one of the many agriculture barons that was nearby.

They left for the Mojave in late 2272 and ended up settling further east than most trying to find arable land for raising brahmin as well as other crops for sustaining themselves and to make a living. They managed to establish their new home just east of Nipton. The Price family started to build their home digging the well for them to draw water from. Once the house was mostly finished and their water supply secured, the began to plant the corn and tato plants for their food. Rebecca would take Sam with her out to foraging once the crops were started to help sustain the family until crops were ready for harvest. Eventually they were able to wrangle a few of the roaming big horn so they could start raising them for meat with the brahmin they had brought with them.

By 2274, things were looking better for them as the years went on. Other families established their homesteads not to far from their own and a community began to form. Sam was starting to date a young woman who moved to the area recently and worked as a farm hand.

Often times they would have rangers and scouts of the NCR passing through and they would volunteer food and water knowing how intense the desert can be. After a few years fewer and fewer returned from the east back to the camps. Those that did mentioned a large group to the east that had been conquering the tribes that roamed beyond the other side of the river. This was the first time they really heard anything about Caesar's Legion.

Early one morning the Price family woke to the sounds of the live stock rustling and lowing like they were upset about something. Soon after gunshots started everyone was out of bed and rushing to the windows. At first Sam's father thought it was just raiders trying to make of with whatever they could. Upon looking out one of the windows he recognized the uniforms from the descriptions the passing soldiers had told them. Sam's father told him and his mother to get into the cellar, where they could possibly hide. Once in the cellar, Rebecca had Sam take down some of the boards where they had set up a hiding spot in case of something like this. By the time the boards were down they could hear the door to the house cracking under repeated blows and screams from others in their homes on the homestead. Sam Sr managed to start firing his shotgun off at the legionaries that started to pile through. As Sam got into the hiding spot, the door into the house gave way and Rebecca knew they were running out of time. She started to shove the pre war refrigerator in front of the gap in the wall and telling Samuel to stay in there and quiet. Initially he had started to protest and try to keep the refrigerator from blocking the hole. It was the last time he made eye contact with his mother and he could see that she was trying to make sure he survived. He stopped and quietly nodded in acknowledgement of what she told him, stay quiet, stay here, and wait until it was clear.

He hid in that spot for days listening to the legionaries as they ransacked the homestead. Two times he thought that they were going to find him in the cellar. Both times it seemed they were only as interested as just looking through the shelves for whatever food or drink was down there. By the fourth day, the little bit of rations and water in the hiding spot was starting to thin out as they had not anticipated really needing to stay in there long. He wasn't sure what time it was, figuring it was morning as he had woken up not to long ago, he listened for awhile before slowly pushing the refrigerator out of the way. He found all those the legion had killed and left to rot in the Mojave sun scattered across the farm. The people he buried as best he could, making a marker of all those he thought were slain. He gathered what little supplies were left, his father's broken shotgun, and set off westward to the nearest possible NCR camp or ranger station he could think of to find help. Sam managed to find his way to Ranger station Charlie, and with the help of the Rangers there to Camp McCarran.

He gave a report of what happened to one of the on duty NCOs, as well as started to sign up for the NCR army. While he was a decent shot with a rifle or shotgun, his skills ended up being better suited for repairing the vehicles and equipment wherever he was stationed. Most of his time was spent either in Camp McCarran with occasional deployments to the other camps more forward to take equipment back that had been sent back for repair. In his off hours he spent much of his time at the camp bar, or in one of the other bars throughout New Vegas. Often times he would show up for his shift still intoxicated, much to his superiors displeasure. Due to this and his waning performance Samuel went through several disciplinary reviews, had pay deducted, given menial tasks not relevant to his normal duties, and passed over for promotions.

This went on for two years before Sam hit rock bottom. While on a rare instance of leave he managed to get to go to the Tops casino. While there he managed to draw the attention of the Chairmen due to how much he was winning at black jack. At first he got a few extra free drinks, then a room. It was after he had earned close to $8000 caps another patron accused him of cheating. Sam denied the accusation multiple times to no avail. The other man abruptly stood up from the table and lunged at Sam throwing a wild hay maker at him. Sam was in motion to raise his arms to protect his face, though the alcohol in his system slowed his reaction. The fight continued for a few minutes before security pulled the two apart. Both ended up doing time, though Sam was returned to the NCR for his punishment, and were banned from The Tops.

Stuck in a cell with a terrible hangover, potentially cracked ribs, and a swollen eye brow, Samuel started to reflect on what got him to this spot. Yes he had acted in self defense, that should have been enough to clear him from punishment. However his record of drunkenness and poor overall performance worked against him. Once released from holding, Sam sought help from one of the doctors on base. After several weeks he was able to get himself clean of alcohol and start on the road to breaking the addiction and his performance in the NCR improved.

In his last year of service he was promoted to a private first class. Around that time the rumors of the legion returning to the Mojave were spreading around the camp and the Bitter Springs Massacre story he had heard left Samuel doubting that the NCR would be able to protect the people from the Legion anymore. When the time came for his contract to end, one of the medics, Cindy, mentioned that there was a former ranger looking to recruit people to fight the legion. Samuel gathered his belongings and made his way to 188 trade post where the closest recruiting station was to sign up, offering his skills as a mechanic and an extra gun when needed.

The devastation of his home that he saw still resides in his subconscious largely repressed expect in the occasional nightmare. He maintains abstinence from alcohol for now and gambles only on occasion.

Aurora

In blind panic as she was starting to suffocate, Aurora dug her hands in and around where she could on the creature. Drawing on what little strength she had and the knowledge that her friends were coming to help her, she pulled on the creature as hard as she could. The pain from the creature trying to maintain it's terrible grip over her face was almost blinding, however Aurora managed to pry it off. Taking a deep gasping breath, she threw the creature away from herself and ran away from it hoping to keep it from gaining purchase over her face again. She draws her shortsword expecting the creature to pursue or try to attack someone else.

"Does everything in this cursed place want to kill whatever it comes across?!

With a dirty 20, Aurora freed herself from the creature. She uses disengage as a bonus action and moves 30 feet to just beside the pool, where the lily pad is.
