I think things like this can work, as long as safety precautions are in place to keep everything copacetic. There are people I'd be willing to meet up with, but I've known the majority of them for years. (Talked to online, offline, verified through video chat, etc.) Living in New York City (Manhattan), this is actually a good possibility -- lots of people travel through here or visit from time to time, so I'm well-placed for meet ups.
