Losing points for losing vs lower ranked opponents is a bad idea, it's a de-incentive for higher ranked people accepting lower ranks challenges.

I'll reiterate that not taking your own points into account in the reward system is a bad idea though.
Essentially. Yes.

A person would win 200 points from someone with 2000. 250 from a person with 2500

It would work a little better if your own points were taken into account, so in that example if you had 1000 points and fought someone with 2000, the difference being 1000 points, you'd be rewarded with an extra 100.

Otherwise you could have two or three very high ranked players essentially fighting each-other and gaining masses of points, and I don't think someone ranked 1900 for example deserves an extra 200 points for defeating someone with 2000.
@MelonHeadI did consider doing a PM system for the bios. However, because of transparency issues, I opted not to do such a thing. For the next tournament if you opt to host, you may choose to go that route.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by transparency issues, as the only person who has any say in what characters are allowed in is you. However, point taken, this is your tournament, it was just a suggestion.

This I am okay with. What say you lot?

Incentive for defeating higher ranked opponent's definitely makes sense, though it might be a bit of a pain to work out. Would it just work by rewarding you with an additional ten points for every 100 points higher ranked they are than you? That seems like the simplest way of doing it.
To be fair, if we just say from now on there's no points gained for losing it won't affect anything, so this is the ideal time to do it.
It's a bit late now, but a system that Rilla used which I tend to agree with is having character acceptances private until the start.

For example, I may be unlikely to produce a character now which is particularly vulnerable to any of the character's posted thus far, to increase my chances of winning.
I never understood why we decided to give points for losing. It's like a participation trophy. Yeah you participated and lost, but because everyone wants to feel good, so in order to not hurt your feelings you get points.

Accepting loss is an important skill in the Arena though, it may even be worth rewarding, though I was personally just for no point loss as opposed to points gained for losing.
But if you lose, doesn't the opposing side earn more points, thus, getting ahead of you?

Yeah, but you'll still be gaining points ahead of other people.

Essentially, you could lose five matches in a row over the course of a month, and still be ranked higher than someone else who had one long battle over that time and won.
Lots of alcohol.

Yeah I drink too much. :/

Or rather drank too much, considering how I feel right now.
“Impressive, but you’ll have to do more than that Hemming.” The King of the Mountain bellowed down to the challenger, who was making better progress than he expected. This was likely to be a closer contest than he had previously thought, something he enjoyed immensely, he relished the challenge.

The mountains irritability towards the two racers charging up its rocky body was growing progressively more noticeable to the King, he was after all very familiar with this terrain. Arguably, though he was the king, it was the queen who held the power here, the Mountain herself.

His quick and practiced steps up the mountainside flicked the snow from his body before it could settle, and he soon found himself closing in on the first of five way-stones marking the way up the cliff. One fifth of the way to the summit already, and the challenger seemed like he was also close, they were going to make exceptional time reaching the top.

As the snowstorm raged into a blizzard visibility dropped significantly, forcing the challengers to rely on both their endurance towards the cold and their other senses to navigate. Even the King was forced to slow by such conditions, striding forward with a determined trot rather than the flat climbing sprint he had adopted beforehand. The mountain had perhaps provided Kei’taro a chance to regain the lead, provided he could battle the elements effectively.
