Do things... do things... do things...

The army of motivators are Rilla's greatest nightmare.
Most of the skill in war would come from using terrain to your advantage. It's only unfair if they spawn you closer to vital landmarks, but good maps can have plenty of hills and trees scattered around as long as one group isn't better and starting closer.

"Omg! Hax! No placing archers on hills! Arrrggghhhh!"

That would only work if you had miles upon miles of terrain in which to maneuver around to get the best advantage. When given a standardized map nature is never symmetrical, therefore never fair.
@Rilla Before I post, when does combat start? Does it start when we start it, or does it start when you start it? Because this is pertinent information.

Rilla literally just threw us into an Arena and expected us to fight, you can fight whenever you feel your character wants to. If they know exactly what the nature of the place they are in is about like Khan's character then they may attack immediately to gain an advantage. My character however has no idea what's going on.

Great job melon, you scared him off. :K

Meh, Arena does tend to have its fair share of drop outs.

Can't take the heat.

Well, all of my Arenas do have rule Variants intended to reduce the impact of the environment in order for the fighters to have more of a conventional slugging match. That said, basically all of them have properties and features which, when not hazardous to the fighters, nonetheless impact the battle in a significant fashion.

So yeah, if you want your safe, boring, featureless but functional battleground - just use The Fighting Fields. It has invisible and indestructible boundaries, undynamic terrain, and is completely uninteresting in any way shape or form. There is no reason to use any other arena if you think the facets of the arena itself shouldn't be important factors in a fight.

That said, one of the acmes of skill is not only being able to defeat the opponent - but being able to defeat them anywhere, under any circumstances, under any condition. If a character is concerned that they'd have too much to worry about in more sophisticated arenas, or that it would be too risky - perhaps they should consider a different line of work.

Life and Roleplay is All Characters, All Items On, Random Stage.

I don't think you have a very good grasp of what tournament play is, which I saw as an earlier problem in your lack of activity with Arena Fighting. If you look at any form of tournament in any game any 'gimmicky' map is almost always banned, Smash Tourneys for example ban all the stages with unfair terrain etc, Total War they fight on flat maps, the point is that only the skill of the fighters becomes a factor, not the Arena giving someone an advantage.

Though there is a very thin line where you can create an Arena where both characters have a fair chance to exploit something, adding an extra and useful dynamic to a fight, it can very easily become an unfair advantage which skews tournament play. Not saying you won't produce something great, but it is a potential issue and the reason why as you say, we fight on 'boring' maps.

Than what will melon play? D=

I'm thinking Voodoo Priest.

Who do ya voodoo
At this rate there is no chance the ranked tournament will be finished before September.
OK, that makes more sense. My character might have forfeited if she understood that all of this was some sort of game, but at the moment she's just getting angry and probably going to kill everyone around her. Not out of any competitive nature though.
Plus it's not like I didn't give warning. Also who's next anyway? Willy?

Also, I'd be amused if rain girl lost because she fortified. We should really implement RP points or something. It will show everyone we're a legitimate RP section.

Probably.

LeeRoy is next, followed by Willy if he bothers to post this round.

My character fortified? I haven't charged an attack or anything, I don't make my preps subtle as that's kind of against the rules.

I can, doesn't mean RL stuff can't creep up that could not be foreseen.

Also, being online does not mean I can post.

That's why you seclude yourself in a cave with decent internet connection, none of that pesky 'real life' nonsense.
