"The Flightless Pegasus," Torielle echoed softly. "Expensive and out of the way. Hmm. Perhaps Your Majesty will pay enough that I could afford it." It was supposed to be a joke, but her tone didn't support it. She turned her eyes to the ground as she realised how regretful a thing it was to say.

The heat of the building forced Torielle to turn her head further, bracing herself against the extreme difference across the threshold. As the doors were closed behind her, she shifted her scarf away from her face and head, revealing herself as she looked around with feigned interest. Her eyes swept across the interior, noting the polished stone and perfectly laundered linens that surrounded her.

More impressive than the outside, at least; but not nearly as impressive as the frozen water.

Her gaze continued sweeping as she followed the old guard, searching for something new and exciting. Finding nothing, she took a deep breath as she was led into the hall, a gaggle of strangers waiting for something to happen being their only greeting. Torielle shook her head as she looked each over in kind, careful to avoid eye-contact with anyone.

The guard apologised kindly for the delay; Torielle turned her attention back to him. "Forgive me, sir, but my tea?" She had better control over her tone this time, and smiled weakly, trying to exude a polite kindness in turn, but still pushing for that small comfort that was promised to her just moments before.
After millennia reliving the extreme heat of her death, the bitter cold was a complete shock. Sibley's eyes shot open, and she jumped to her feet faster than she thought possible. She began swatting away the snow that stuck to her bare arms and legs, and shook her head violently to get any stray flakes out of her hair, her steps eerily quiet as she jumped around. "Holy f-"

She quickly silenced herself as she realised she wasn't alone. Looking around at the others, her eyes still wide and her mouth slightly open, she straightened herself and pulled her thin shawl as tightly as she could around her shoulders. A cursory glance confirmed that she was the youngest in the group - a situation she was very familiar with - and that they were likely thrown here much as she was. Her gaze swept past the others toward the ruined village before them, scanning building after burnt-out building, corpse after desecrated corpse. The memory of her farmhouse burning flashed before her eyes, and a very familiar anger flared up inside her.

But this wasn't the time or place. She lowered her head and closed her eyes again, desperate to hide the hatred that now shone through them, and listened carefully as the others spoke. It was clear that they knew as little about the situation as she did - perhaps with the exception of the redheaded woman, referred to as Beoulve by the man wearing what Sibley could only assume were haphazardly-arranged scraps of fabric.

She heard the old man offer his jacket to one of the others; she hugged herself tightly, her own dress and shawl doing little to ward off the shocking chill. She wanted to reach out and grab the jacket, but knew it was a very easy way to lose sympathy; instead, she took a deep breath and allowed herself to shiver, as terribly painful as it was. She still felt as weak as the moment she died, her mouth still dry from the heat, her throat still sore from screaming over the crowd. Perhaps though, she thought, if she didn't hide her pain, someone would soon take pity on her as well.

Well, I guess we'll have to see how much civilization is left for her to steal from. Haha.

It'll be like a fairytale.
Boy meet girl, girl tries to steal EVERYTHING, boy tries to stop her, they become the best of friends and live happily ever after.
My entire experience with FF is Kingdom Hearts, and I don't think that really counts :x
@Raging Fenrir Dupin is an Edgar Allen Poe character, not sure about the other references tho.

By the way, I'm sure Lance and Sibley are going to be just the BEST of friends :3

Biography:
Valerie is the second child of Manuel & Lola Romero, a couple who emigrated from Honduras in the early 1980s. The other children in her class occasionally made fun of her for her non-Americanized family; whenever this happened, Valerie would deflect the teasing toward the poor student or, more commonly, toward Jack. Although she did her best to hide how it got to her, it made her resent her family and her culture for a long time.

Her parents instilled a good work ethic into Valerie from a young age. They encouraged her to pursue her passions; and when she announced a dream of going to medical school when she was 12, they did everything they could to support her. She graduated from high school with honours, and attended the University of New Orleans for pre-nursing with a full scholarship.

While at university, Valerie realized that she was gay; she met another woman, Andrea, in the pre-nursing program, and the two formed a relationship. Knowing that her conservative Catholic family would not approve of the relationship or her sexuality, Valerie kept it hidden from them until her graduation, when Andrea accidentally let it slip to Valerie’s mother. Valerie was immediately forced out of the house, and hasn’t spoken to her parents since. She temporarily moved in with Andrea, but their relationship soon went south as well, leaving Valerie on her own.

Hoping to save enough money to go to graduate school, Valerie registered as a geriatric aide. She worked in a nursing home for a few years before resigning the position, instead signing up with an agency that matched caretakers to people who need them. Because of a shortage in geriatric aides, as well as her exemplary work at the nursing home, she was given the opportunity to choose which case to take - and, upon seeing her old teacher’s name on the list, didn’t think twice about the decision.

Learning about Jack was a shock for Valerie: the first time she was asked to bring food to the basement, she was confused by the request but obeyed without question. Seeing her old classmate, grown up but still wearing his mask, left her without words. It took her a full week to work up the courage to ask Ms. Deville about it; and when she received what was essentially a nonanswer, Valerie decided it was best to stay out of it. She interacted with Jack very seldomly, only venturing into the basement to bring him his meals, and not speaking to him or even looking at him when doing so.

When Ms. Deville asked her to help put together a reunion for her old classmates, Valerie was thrilled, and more than happy to help with the planning. She did everything she could to help prepare for the event, and is looking forward to seeing her old classmates again.
