When his alarm went off, Oswald had already been up for nearly an hour. Already dressed, showered and ready, he grabbed his scroll and deactivated the alarm. He was armed and armored, and figured that now would be the best time to get some breakfast. Leaving the room, he made his way to the cafeteria, arriving shortly after it was opened to the students. He grabbed a plate of waffles with some bacon and made his way to a table. If his teammates came along, they could sit with him if they felt like it. He was sure Marcus would: he could tell their team leader was serious about his position, and unit cohesion was a major factor in life-or-death scenarios. The others he wasn't so sure about. He could imagine Diamond eating all of her meals alone with her smokes, while Aurellius would probably just do what he felt like that day. He hoped they'd at least be willing to work together and get to know each other on a decent level, at least. When eight came around, Oswald read the message sent to his scroll and dutifully made his way to the classroom. First class was combat: it seemed fitting enough. They were here to learn how to become proper Huntsman and Huntresses, after all. Testing their abilities only made sense. He wasn't perfectly comfortable fighting with one useful arm, though. At least he had his sword, though: there was no way he could fight seriously with only his shield. As he listened to the rosters, he made note of who each member of his team was fighting. He had to go against Sapphire Rode, Marcus was up against a Geni Hung, Diamond was fighting Mokuren Sabella, and Aurellius was put against Jack Orpheus. This was it.
Oswald is ready for the sleepytimes
Marcus's comment about sentry duty and showers made Oswald chuckle a bit. "You got that right, boss. Can't tell you how many guys got a shiner for peeping back at home." He wondered how often they'd actually be outside of the school grounds: he couldn't imagine the Academy letting first-year students with little to no actual combat experience out very often. Yes, there had been the test, but considering the number of injuries the students had suffered against their enemies, he doubted there would be frequent excursions any time soon. It seemed they were being advised to wake up early for breakfast. Oswald figured about six in the morning would be good. Once their other teammate was showered, he'd follow and then go to sleep. Not much left to do this day, after all.
Also, relevant. http://www.gofundme.com/MontyandSheena
I like how they've already passed their goal by more than $10,000. In 3 hours no less. Isn't the RT community great?
We raised a million for Lazer Team in two days. The RT community acts like Gae Bolg in reversing cause and effect when it comes to overfunding. These things are not overfunded because they are posted, they are posted because they are overfunded.
Oi, Lugu. I remember on an earlier post that as the rp progressed and things happened, we would be able to upgrade our weapons. Would this entail completely different sets? Of course, in example with Aurellius, he would still keep the basic lance, but receive a special shield and have Ascalon adapted into a cannon of sorts. Totally not ripping off of Monster Hunter. Or even change it into something completely different. Maybe adapt it into a rifle spear of some kind? These are all just basic ideas that won't be used until way later on (if we survive, that is.
Definitely not gonna turn Oswald's sword into a Laser-rifle from CoD, no way.
As Marcus headed over to the bed on the far left of the room, Oswald followed, falling back onto the bed next to his leader's and sighing blissfully. "Well, boss, I'm an easy enough guy to deal with, I think. A roof over my head is just about enough to keep me happy. Stay outta my bags, don't get us killed and treat people like people, and we'll get along famously." Stretching his arms out and wincing when his wrist didn't cooperate, he groaned. "Damned wrist. I'm lucky I'm right-handed. At least I can get along with that much." Looking over to the bathroom door, he screwed up his face. "Not sure I like the look that girl gave us when she went in. Almost like she half expected us to do it. Maybe even wanted it, a little, just so she could have an excuse to make trouble. Whatever, let her have her shower. I'll go last." Thinking back on a few of the camps he'd made in the past, Oswald wanted to laugh. This was living in the lap of luxury compared to home. He couldn't keep a smile off his face as he remembered a few of the people he'd left behind. He wondered whether he'd see any of them again.
Oswald couldn't help but glare at Aurellius as he derided Marcus for taking the leader role almost immediately. Diamond's reply wasn't any better, either. Oswald only managed to get a word in once Diamond was on her way out. "I, for one, actually like the fact that he's willing to take the role of leader, instead of some people I've met in the past who just dilly dally around like dickless oafs and get people hurt, or worse. Most people don't understand what it's like to lead. Trust me, it ain't worth it. Marcus, you are a poor, poor sap to have gotten stuck with that role. A poor...poor sap." He could only shake his head at the two he was with. Hopefully Marcus would be a better leader than he'd been. He followed along to the dorm room, already dreading living with these people. Marcus was a good enough guy, but he might have been just a bit too uptight. It wasn't something Oswald was familiar with or particularly fond of, but at least the guy wasn't outright confrontational like their lovely friends were. Oh, and of course, there was Diamond, who somehow made it to the dorm room before them and got through the window. Yeah, because that made a whole lot of sense. Oi.
Standing on the podium, his wrist confined to an extremely uncomfortable cast, Oswald looked out at the other students with a feeling of pride. He was officially a Huntsman-in-training now. The test had been a hell of a fight, but they'd managed to take down one of the more durable Riesen-class Grimm, a feat not many rookies could claim. Datura were hulking monstrosities that took more firepower than the average Huntsman could manage, but that Marcus with his tank was more than enough on his own. As long as nothing got close, which that girl...Diamond, was it?...had managed. Oswald and the other guy, Aurellius, did some damage on their own, but Marcus was responsible for most of the pain. To the Grimm, at least. Oswald's shattered wrist throbbed again, reminding him that he didn't get out of this in top condition. Despite their ridiculous size, it turned out that Datura were more than capable of some pretty quick movement. At least, individual parts were. Still, a fucking tree trunk? He was lucky it was his shield arm that got the hit, because that probably would have taken half his arm with it otherwise. Overall, the team wasn't too bad. The douchebag with the giant lance was definitely capable of dishing out damage in just about any situation, the girl who came off as a total bitch did a damn good job of fighting, and well....the other guy had a tank. Nothing further needed to be said. Oswald knew that he himself could hold his own, having done enough of that back home. Growing up outside the kingdoms was a lot of work, and the day he knew he was made to fight Grimm, he was training as hard as he ever had before. It had been a long five years, but not every kid from these teams could call themselves a true hunter like Oswald was: born for nothing more than to live and die for the cause of killing Grimm. He didn't know the others' motivations, but his was simple: protect those who are not meant to protect themselves. It was what he'd been chosen to do, and had been a matter of course for as long as he cared to remember. When Diamond asked 'what now?' Oswald gave a shrug. "My guess would be to find where we'll be staying while we're here."
Thank you for breaking Oswald's wrist. Though....to be fair, I did climb onto a Datura in the first RP. So...yeah, that's fair.
