Name: Kemp
Age:19
Profession: Dragon Rider/ Apprentice Harper
Physical Appearance:Kemp is around 5’6 with medium build. He has sandy blonde hair that falls to his ears and is mainly kept swept back but constantly falls into his eyes. He is not very athletic but he is not overweight. He has light brown eyes and freckes that cross from one cheek to the other over his nose.
Personality: Kemp is energetic, curious, overtly friendly and often impulsive. He loves to learn and will often forgoe safety to experience the thrill of something new.
History: Kemp was born to a small holder near Fort Hold. Even as a small child, he was curious and always looking for new things. He especially loved the stories and teachings of the Journeymen Harpers which passed every now and then by his old. As expected of any child living in a small hold, he was required to pull his weight but when everyone else was sleeping or doing something else, he would be reading. He managed to catch the attention of one of these Journeymen Harpers and while his voice was not prime, his ability to retain and recall oven obscure pieces of information made him a worthy Candidate for Harper Hall.
He had not been an apprentice for long when he started to get in trouble with the other harpers regarding debates. He corrected a teacher one too many times or broke this rule or that trying to discover or prove certain information. Facing expulsion, the Journeman Harper Karolan, instead suggested he accompany him on his journeys. Understanding the need for such a talented mind, it was agreed.
It was during one of these journeys to the Southern Continent that the most unlikely event happened. Kemp, while fascinated by the dragons and their riders, never had any inkling or desire to be one himself. However, as happenstance would have it, he was at the right time for a hatching. He obviously did all in his power to be part of the audience to experience this one in a life time event. He was enraptured by the humming of the dragons and his own overabundance of excitement that tears flowed freely at his amazing luck to part of such event. He saw dragon after dragon come out of its shell and felth nothing but pride and well wishes to those who would one day protect the skies. Finally only one big egg and Three boys remained. He was literraly on the endge of his seat as the egg began to break. Curiously enough, none of the boys helped it. Kemp started to feel angry at this blatant lack of assistance. Eventually though, a brown beak emerged. Still no assistance from the three boys, one who had taken visible step backwards. Before he knew it Kemp was out of his seat yelling with anger and frustration, “help him you fools, Help Oroth!” One of the Boys turned to him and asked beffudled. “Who is Oroth?” Kemp, all but threw himself off his seat and landed on the sandy floor of the hatching grounds. He reached the boy in a number of angry stride and grabbed him by the arm with strength he did not know he possessed, pulling him towards the still struggling dragon chick. “He is Oroth you dung for brains! Now help him or so help me I will!”
“then do” A voice sounded in his head which startled him but his synapses fired at an alarming rate and his mind reached the inivetalbe conclusion that it was a dragon link . He turned towards the egg and with steps half reluctant half driven by uncontrollable urge to assist this dragon...Oroth.
Long story short, before he knew it, he was crying again as joy, excitement and a mix of fear moved his hands to finish breaking the egg. As fate would have it, he was now a dragon rider.

Dragon
Name:Oroth
Rider: K’mp
Color:Brown
Physical Description: Oroth is a large black dragon. Muscular and dominant. He is sure of himself and his abilities. In contrast to his rider, Oroth is of stable mind, patiet and deliberate in his actions. He acts as a counter balance to K’mp’s often rash decisions. He does share a love for adventure but tries to tempter this logic.
Kemp made his way to the doorway of the wooden hut or long house that housed the riders of the new dragonets. He was up and awake before even the first rays of the sunlight appeared. His excitement at the life that he now led made it hard for him to keep his eyes closed.

Sleep is necessary for a healthy body and sharp mind Came the even matter-of-fact voice of his brown Oroth via their mental communication.

Though only a few weeks old, the brown was already the size of a farm horse in height and twice that in wing span. Kemp smiled as he exited the building and turned left towards the clearing that housed the dragonets. Unlike the Weyrs he had read about and seen in the North, the South did not house their dragons in bowl shaped weyrs dotted with ledges and caves. Here, the buildings were much more simple and easy to repair after an earth quake or fire.

Kemp, skirted the edge of the clearing, making sure not to make too much noise by foot or mind. While dragons tended to communicate or talk only to their assigned riders, it was not uncommon that too strong an emotion could translate as a sort of white noise or annoying pitch to other dragons. Unfortunately for the young boy, his excitement levels were always at its peak. Many of the dragonets shifted away from the boy, low murmur or rumbles escaping their throats as the slight uncomfortable “loud” emotions of the boy disturbed their sleep.

Not all creatures look forward to the dawn. It would be best to designate a meeting place away from the nesting area if this is to become a daily occurrence. Oroth remarked making a hissing sound as he let out his air in what Kemp took for an exasperated sigh.

“you are right. Lets do that. For now, lets head to the salted fish barrels, we can grab you a snack while I wash and put oil on you. You grow so fast its hard to keep up with the peeling. Can't have you bursting a seam when we finally go between.” The boy was whispering but his sheer glee could not be hiden and his voice reached a high pitch that caused many a dragonet to grumble.

Come, before you make me the target of sour eyes and vicious talk. Retorted Oroth, as the brown dragon allowed the boy to climb on him. The pair was not ready for long flight yet but they figured that riding the dragon like an awkward horse would train the brown to familiarize himself with the boy’s weight. Both headed to the river, passing from the still moonlit clearing along a wide path towards the store houses.
@Lunamaria Hawke maybe we can do a solo sort of side story. It would help in character development and establishing our characters. Later, if Saddie gets back on track, we can move over to the main story line. PM me if you are interested i guess.
Sooo I am guessing this thread might be dead? Will check back every now and then. Hope all is well.
any idea when we can start the IC or post introductions of our characters?
how does one add pictures to posts? Thank you in advance

@Sadi no problem. I am sure his curiosity and travels could very well taken him to the southern continent especially if he gets to meet AIVAS. Also, I believe he could also be attached to Thread's End Weyr. Any other issues with the character? Looking forward to the OOC and especially the IC
@Sadi sorry to hear that. Hope you are feeling better. I was about to suggest to Luna that we start off and maybe it would take off lol. But I still wonder if you will accept a Dragon Rider who has Harper training? Below is a quick summary of my character:

Kemp is an energetic and studious Harper who loves history and lore. He was the perfect Harper candidate as he loves to study but his voice is ok. This has caused him to be more employed in biding and caring for the vast libraries of Harper Halls rather than actually as part of a choir.

He ends up being at the right place at the right time as he becomes the apprentice of a Journeyman Harper who is visiting one of the Weyrs, Probably Benden, and just happens to be at the time of a hatching. He is in the audience enjoying the show when he accidentally impresses a brown.

What do you think?
