Rudy

Name: Cornelius Rudolphus Duval (or Rudy, as he prefers)

Age: 12

Gender: Male

Appearance: A little on the short side, Rudy is a little below five feet tall. He isn’t particularly thin, but he has fair skin. He has wide, bright blue eyes and short black hair, a lock seeming to point up a bit just on the top. He typically wears a purple shirt with wide sleeves that end halfway up his forearm, and a pair of black wristbands. He also wears black shorts and traveling shoes. On the back of his hip, usually partly obscured by the baggy hem of his shirt, is a tan traveling bag.

Personality: Somewhat shy, Rudy tends to keep quiet, being known to mumble or mutter his thoughts. Many think he’s a kind, sweet boy, and they’d mostly be right: he tends to treat others fairly and tries to help, but like many people, he can get annoyed, though perhaps more easily than most. He generally keeps it to himself or his quiet mutterings, however. He lacks confidence in himself outside of his knowledge and interest in mysterious things, like myth, legends, and the occult. He tends to be skittish, especially around certain Pokémon, due to some incidents in his past.

History:Cornelius Rudolphus Duval was born in the distant Kalos region, cursed with perhaps, the worst name ever. In his early years, as he learned to speak, he could barely even pronounce it, which led to him getting picked on a bit, resulting in him becoming more introverted, and the nicknames of ‘Corny’ or ‘Rudolph’ (as in, the red nosed Stantler, of course) certainly didn’t help, of course. Even adopting the nickname ‘Rudy’ didn’t seem to help much, but like many jokes, it became tired, and his name was left alone at last as he started schooling.

However, as he grew up, he had an interest in Pokémon: his father, Ruben, was a fisherman, who regularly caught and showed off all kinds of water types, traveling the region to get new ones. Rudy’s mother, Louise, was interested in the scientific aspect, and despite being something of an at home mother, she was well read, and interested in all kinds of aspects of Pokémon. Rudy’s older sibling, his sister Marielle, was a trainer and had recently been traveling Kalos, with the ambition of taking on the best on the best. Rudy always felt a little left out though, eagerly wanting to follow in his sister’s footsteps. Ruben took notice of this, and decided that it was never too early to make bonds with a Pokémon, even if the six year old’s journey was a little ways off. He made a poor choice in judgment, however: thinking the shy boy would be best complimented by a rowdy Carvanha he fished up a big one. The results were predictable: Rudy reached his hand to pet his new Pokémon, but the thing was far too high leveled, and damn near bit off Rudy’s hand. Luckily, it only ever took some of the sleeve, but regardless, repeated attempts went no better. Rudy became shaken by the whole incident, slowly waning off Pokémon altogether, becoming more interest in reading about the mysteries of the world, garnered from reading some of the books his sister had picked up. Reluctantly, his father gave up, but still hoped to restore his feelings for Pokémon somehow.

A few years later, Rudy was about ten, and his sister fifteen, with more than a few badges under her belt. Knowing Rudy wasn’t going to in the mood for going on a traditional Pokémon journey any time soon, his mother had an idea to reinvigorate his interest. Knowing Marielle would be fine on her own due to her already reputable skill, they decided to move, changing locale to the Orre region, where there were far fewer Pokémon. Ruben didn’t mind as long as they were near water: even in spite of Orre’s history for being relatively devoid of Pokémon, fish could not be taken from the ocean. It went well enough, in the two years since they’d moved, Rudy had traveled outside a bit more often, taking in the sights and history of Gateon Port, visiting the bar every so often for its crowd and shows, though he admittedly felt a bit lost in its rambunctiousness, usually leaving when it got too loud to think. He preferred it when it was quite, where he could hear sailors trading tales of the sea, where it seemed like half of them had had some encounter with some sort of legendary Pokémon or another, or an old timer going on about their adventures in the past.

More recently, Ruben came across a Pokémon, trading one of his prized fish, a Clauncher far larger than most any of the fish off of Orre’s coast, for a bizarre Crawdaunt. Not only was its size alone worrying for Rudy, but it just felt...wrong. The sight of it sickened Rudy, that nauseating purple aura surrounding it. Rudy tried to tell his parents, but Ruben didn’t mind it: the Crawdaunt won its battles handily, even outperforming his Gyarados, the first Pokémon he’d ever fished and raised. Louise listened a bit more closely, but was at a loss. She’d heard the rumors or ‘Shadow Pokémon’, but she’d yet to put two and two together, instead calling Marielle whom simply asked to be put on the line with Rudy. The boy could still recall the confident expression on her face when she gave her suggestion:

“There’s a professor there in Orre, right? I think you should confide in an expert on this one.”

And as luck would have it, a the Pokémon HQ Lab had regular tours, one coming up soon...

Ability: Filter

Moves: Tickle, Barrier, Confusion, Copycat

Summary: Mime Jr. was given to Rudy by Professor Michael early into the RP. Like many Mime Jrs, it has a tendency to mimic those it observes, or at least attempt it. Young and innocent, it tends to warm up to others easily, perhaps unknowingly putting itself in danger. It seems to be spunky and enthusiastic as well.

Figured I'd note: Chev, since you aren't too familiar with the newer stuff, I believe, the most important thing is the Fairy type, specifically that a number of Pokemon have had their types changed. Mime Jr is Psychic/Fairy, for example. Also retyped are Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Togepi, Marill, Snubull, Ralts, Mawile, Cottonee, and most of their evolutionary lines. Serebii is a good resource if you want to check what types a Pokemon is weak/resistant too easily, but that's easily avoided in battles against NPCs by having them not use Fairy types (which you might want too at first because both Fighting and Dragon are weak to it!).

What's the age range you're looking at? I sorta guessed 10-13ish, where my character will probably be, which is pretty normal for trainers.

Hmm, thinking about my character, I think I might actually take the 'can see Shadow Pokes' route, I think I came up with an actual backstory that might work. Should be neat.

Hmm, I think I could manage this. Count me in. Blah blah Turtwig.

How will our characters be starting out? Green rookie trainers with a couple little Pokes to their name or 'don't even have a Pokemon yet' newbies?

Also, I had the brief idea of one of the characters being able to see Shadow Pokemon like the heroine of Colosseum, but I'm not sure if that could be used to be interesting or not. Twas but a thought.

One Piece: The Roaring Pirate Era 1x1 (Pacifista and SlowPlow)

“Ahaha! Did you hear that little runt?” Came a voice from nearby the scene. A trio of pirates that happened to be walking by had stopped, watching the merchant guard and boy struggle. The largest one, wearing a loose red shirt and tan, ankle length pants and sandals, a sword at his side, laughed again, “He thinks saying that’ll keep him outta trouble, huh?”

One of the others, his head bald, his chest bare, a pair of pistols at his hip, wearing long pants and boots, shrugged, muttering quietly, “Well, he’s got a point, don’t you think, Corny?”

Grimacing, the third pirate, the shortest of the lot, wearing a baby blue bucket hat over his orange hair and a matching jacket, with white shorts and sandals and a pair of black tonfas at his hip muttered, “Don’t you dare call me that again.”

As the other two pirates laughed, the guard had hesitated, eyeing the pirates warily. He tensed as the one dubbed ‘Corny’ approached, hands in the pockets of his shorts. Suddenly, the orange haired pirate ripped his fist out of his pocket, jabbing it at the guard, stopping just short as he flinched. The guard cracked a cautious eye open as Corny said, “Yeah, he’s with us, so drop him if you know what’s good for you.”

Angrily, the guard looked between Boy and the three pirates, before reluctantly putting him down. Corny grinned, unfurling his fist and patting him in the chest, not even blinking as he subtly slipped a couple of Beri coins into his breast pocket. Heading back to the other two, he snapped his fingers, saying, “Oi, kid, come on.” The other two pirates looked between themselves, but didn’t complain openly as they walked from the scene as the guard returned to his post.

Corny asked, “What’s your name? Where’s your parents?”

The larger pirate behind the pair scoffed, “You’re way too soft on brats...”

One Piece: The Roaring Pirate Era 1x1 (Pacifista and SlowPlow)

Somewhere in the East Blue Sea, a certain island baked in the sunlight of the day sky. Covered in rocks and weeds, the once pristine island of Patron Gulch was once a beautiful kingdom, but the onset of the Pirate Era seemed to bring that to an end, when endless raiding was incompetently managed by poor rulers. Now, the massive former capital of Sol Scotch is in ruins, its towers and castles being occupied by any strong enough to hold them, while any with sense followed their ruler to small hamlet on the other side of the island, away from any seas. Patron Gulch was weaker, yes, but not completely gone.

Roving bands walked the streets of Sol Scotch, merchants setting up and selling wares, hoping to catch some eyes, while the few regular civilians just went about their daily business, trying not to be in the wrong place in the wrong time.

Hello there! In case you haven't gamed with me before, I'm pretty big on One Piece RPs! But unfortunately, I'm not in the mood for anything large right now, so I'd like to get a 1x1 started.

What am I looking for exactly? Well...

*Someone at least somewhat familiar with the setting: I find the setting well built, so I'd like to preserve that. I'm something of a lore monger, so I hate to see original stuff that meshes horribly or outright contradicts the series. Not to say I hate original stuff, or that stuff that contradicts the setting or my interpretations can't be done well.

*Someone who can post at a Casual/Low Advanced Level: I'm not expecting a novel every other post, but I'd like you to do your best!

*Someone aware of the possibility of the game being long: Given my usual ambition, and the series itself, I like to plan my OP games to be far spanning and grand in scale, even if they rarely get that far.

Beyond that though, I'm pretty flexible!

I think the generic idea for a game would be you and I playing as a couple characters who meet and form a crew, before going on adventures and adding more crewmates, not unlike the series itself. I've done games like that before, but most everything was lost when the Guild exploded. I might be willing to try something else if you have something in mind!
