Friends In Low Places

Once the Captain left, Quill stayed a moment, thinking about the next course of action. If she were to be of any help setting this up, she would have to grease some contacts. One of the perks of the job was that you met all sorts of interesting people. And interesting people led interesting lives, did interesting things, and, most importantly, had interesting secrets.

Quill left and made her way to her room, hyperfocused now. If anyone saw her it would be a blur of blonde and black. Once she was inside her room she shut the door and began to reach out to her first contact.

Camilla's voice, sounding like vanilla, came on "Quill? Darling, is everything okay? Did that ship you found pan out?"

Quill hid a smile, thankful to have a friend concerned about her safety. "Yes, it did. I am actually calling you from the ship."

"Wonderful! I am so glad it worked out for you! Are you almost at Pelorum?"

Quill paused a moment. She had come on this ship with every intention of leaving as soon as they docked at Pelorum. And now here she was, roped into a mission to save a bunch of people she did not know. No one would fault her for not even attempting to help. This was not what she signed up for. But she knew, deep down, she had to help. Any of those people could have been her. Could have been Camilla.

"Change of plans on that. I still plan on going there, but we are making a side trip to Osiris."

"Osiris? Whatever are you hoping to find there?"

"There's a group of people we are hoping to get off and prevent them from being forced into servitude. It's a long story and I will fill you in on the full details when we have tea again, but for now, I just need help. Can you use your contacts to get the ship I am on a writ to get off of Osiris?"

Camilla let out a low whistle. "Darling, you know I would do anything for you, but that's a tall ask. Not impossible, sure, but it would require a lot of work and, if you are caught, well I don't need to spell out the unfortunate consequences that would follow."

Quill knew, but it was a risk they would have to take. "I understand and I would also understand if you wanted to opt-out. I can see about finding someone else to get us the writ."

Camilla let out a hearty laugh. "Oh I didn't say no, love. It's a challenge, but you know I do so adore challenges. Gives me a bigger thrill than speed racing! I'll need time, of course, but I should be able to get you a writ soon. Do you want me to send it your way or to the man in charge?"

Quill thought a moment, "Send it to me. I'll pass it along to the Captain."

"Captain. Such a powerful word. Is he cute?"

"Camilla...."

"What? I am bored here and there are precious few yummy people to look at here. Let me live vicariously through you!"

"He's handsome, in a rough sort of way. There are a few others on here. All fairly attractive too. It's like something is in the water to make everyone here attractive."

Camilla laughed again. "Oh, delicious! I know you don't mix business with pleasure, but perhaps you can entertain some of them? Saints know that if you are doing something dangerous they could use someone to talk to and forget about the trouble."

"My first priority is the people. Get them safe and situated. The rest can come after."

"That's always been my experience," Camilla said, "innuendo fully meant. Anywho, you will have your writ shortly, but you owe me big time and I plan on collecting. Maybe I will see about coming on board your little ship, if only to see how the Captain fills out his uniform!"

Camilla clicked off after that and Quill could only shake her head in amusement. Camilla definitely made things lighter and, with her contacts, she expected the writ soon enough. One step of this last-minute plan was, at least, done.

LIFE AT RITMAN Over the four years she spent at Ritman, Bronwyn built up a repuaton for herself. Starting off her Freshman year as one of the cheer squad and working her way up to being Head Cheerleader during her Junior year made her well-known among the students. Though they did cheer for some of the other sports teams, the Ritman Cheerleaders also went to cheerleading competitions and consistently did well, winning some trophies for the school. Bronwyn had her own clique with the cheerleaders and often spent time with them and their significant others. Bronwyn's parents were wealthy by the town's standards, so Bronwyn wanted very little during her time. Bronwyn was a b****, to put it bluntly. While she never physically bullied anyone, Bronwyn's weapon of choice was spreading rumors around. Bronwyn did well in classes, earning A's and a few B's, but she mainly focused on her cheerleading. Despite her popularity, Bronwyn never had a steady relationship. She dated off and on, but no one ever claimed to be her boyfriend or girlfriend. There was a guy junior year that seemed like he was with her, but over the summer the two of them broke it off. Bronwyn never said why and, when asked, Bronwyn quickly changed the subject. Bronwyn walked the halls knowing people were looking at her. And that was what mattered. PSYCHE Bronwyn entered college with a gusto, focusing on her school work and maintaining her cheerleading scholarship. She joined other organizations and pledged to a sorority, where she quickly rose up the ranks. Bronwyn didn't spread rumors and put others down as she did in high school. Instead, she bonded closely with the girls in her sorority. Since going to college, Bronwyn has become more sociable and approachable. Bronwyn became known around her college for her cheerleading skills (which she maintained) but also for her work with various clubs and organizations. Bronwyn opened up about herself more with others and even began therapy. She didn't really keep in touch with anyone from Ritman apart from a few people. After graduating, Bronwyn joined a PR Firm, learning the ins and outs of public relations and its impact on the people around them. Her boss noticed Bronwyn's social skills and abilities to connect with others and offered her a cushy position as a publicist in her other office. After accepting the position, Bronwyn put all her effort into work, gaining notoriety and, eventually, leaving to start her own PR firm. Though it is small, Bronwyn's reputation followed her, allowing her to have a decent caseload of clients. The job adds stress, but Bronwyn's tenacity is able to withstand it. Bronwyn also made a few close friends among her co-workers. Despite this, Bronwyn rarely speaks to her parents anymore and, when asked, Bronwyn says they "hurt her" and leaves it at that. POWER Fire and Ice. Two opposing forces. However, many don't consider how similar they are. Both can destroy. Both can preserve. There are those that prefer heat and those that prefer cold. At the end of the day, it is all kinetic energy. The energy that can be harnessed and tapped into, if the right person were to come along. Through the use of Thermal Manipulation, Bronwyn's abilities tap into the control and use of this kinetic energy. She is able to raise and lower her body's temperature, ranging from heat to cold. Doing so alters the state around her, heat allows for fire and cold allows for ice. Bronwyn is also able to use the thermal energy around her to produce heat or cold, depending. Heat can burn and cold can freeze, along with the after-effects of such force (burns or frostbite). Due to her thermal control, Bronwyn is also able to see thermokinetic auras and use them to her will, if need be. While Bronwyn cannot physically produce fire and ice from nothing, in generating and changing the thermal nature of herself or something else, she is able to produce fire and ice. If something is heated up to a certain point, it can combust. If something is cooled down to a certain point, it can freeze. Bronwyn, in using her own body temperature, can focus the effect also, allowing, as an example, her hands to get colder (perfect for keeping drinks cool in the summer). ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

- ▼ STRENGTHS ► Weather and natural heat/cold can play a role. If it is colder out, Bronwyn has an easier time utilizing cold powers, and vice versa. ► Bronwyn is able to control her own body temperature, allowing her to not be seen by cameras or other such sources that rely on heat signatures. ► Bronwyn is able to use sight to alter things and does not need to physically touch an object to alter its thermal energy. ▼ WEAKNESSES ► The use of thermal energy, especially using herself as a conduit, can sap her energy. This makes it harder for her to use the powers. ► Weather and natural heat/cool can play a role. If it is hotter out, it takes greater effort to make things cold, and vice versa. ► Depending on size and distance, Bronwyn may not be able to alter the thermal energy of an object. A trash can is easier to alter than a car and so on. ► Emotions play a strong role in Bronwyn's use of her powers. Standard, she has control. If her emotions become too much (anger, sadness, jealousy, etc.) it can cause her ability to control her powers, leading to unintended consequences. ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

Sheet is coming along, I wanted to re-work it and I may have to pick a new power since someone else seems to have submitted something similar to what I was thinking. Can there be the same powersets or do you want different ones? @Salsa Verde

I am talking a lot (mainly because I am excited) but I think I am going to reserve Thermal Manipulation. I can make that work easily within the confines of the rules set in place.

@Salsa Verde Gotcha. I may change it then because I don't know how to uniquely spin it. I was also thinking maybe Velocity Manipulation (slowing things down or speeding things up) as a potential power, but I may have to peruse the Superpower Wiki for inspiration.
