Bio

Well now that I got the customary "post once" requirement out of the way....

HELLO

Welcome to my safe space. Well, about as safe as one space can be, I guess. If you are here looking for something, I am very sorry to disappoint you, but I made fresh cookies! Come sit a spell.

I guess I'll do some more in-depth stuff about myself. My name is Nick and I am 35 years old living in Illinois. I am a therapist and clinical responder (which is a fancy way of saying I go out on police calls to provide mental health assistance). Been doing therapy for a few years now and I absolutely love it!

I am a gay, cisgender man. I came out in January 2020 (smack dab in the middle of a pandemic. Timing was always my downfall). There is still much I am learning, but I am proud and happy to be who I really am and not have to hide it anymore!

I am an avid gamer, especially roleplaying games (cue surprised and shock noises). I also enjoy writing and reading, especially mysteries. I am not new to roleplay, I promise. I have been doing it for years now in different formats. I am experienced, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I use humor as a coping mechanism for sure, but I also like laughing and enjoying myself. Life can be pretty sad and upsetting for the most part and I don't want to add to it.

Whew! That got deep!

I will be poking my nose around in spaces and hoping to jump headfirst into this. Some interests I have in terms of roleplay settings include superheroes, DnD, science fiction/fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, horror stuffs, apocolypse, and espionage. And I am a fan of most things pop culture. If you have any suggestions or possible roleplays you think I would love, please let me know.

Otherwise, stick around! This is gonna get wild!

You might as well have told Calliope you planned on shooting her dog and throwing its lifeless corpse into a pit by the look on her face. She was actually enjoying a conversation with someone at this school, and someone a part of her team, and had made multiple attempts to show she was interested in having some fun later and his suggestion was to go talk to the others.

Men really were clueless.

Calli sighed and resigned herself to this. Hell, Banjo was more enjoyable than she thought, maybe the others were too. Calli glanced around to check. She wanted to avoid the football dudes as much as possible. She would rather freeze her own tongue and rip it out than play any sport, especially football. Her eyes caught on the girl in the wheelchair. It seemed she managed to get someone to help her. At least she wouldn't be staying in an actual tent and roughing it. She couldn't imagine what that would have looked like with her condition.

And that's when Calliope chastised herself. Wasn't this ableism? Assuming that the girl couldn't handle actual camping just because she had a wheelchair?

Deciding then and there that out of all the others, those two were probably her best bet, Calli walked over to them, assuming Banjo would follow close behind. "Hey, do you need any more help? We got our tent up and figured we would come and check on everyone else. You know, get this whole bonding thing started. I'm Calliope, by the way." She said this to no one in particular, hoping one of them would speak up to her or at least tell her to fuck off.

The other person there was of some interest too, though she couldn't vocalize why. Perhaps Banjo knew? Or would say something, probably put his foot in his mouth.

It seemed that most of them were fans looking around. What, were they expected to just sit here and wait for whoever had taken them to do whatever they intended to do? If what the others were saying was true, they all won their respective fights and, as some gross example of an award, was dragged here. "So we all won our fights and were taken here. I don't know about all of you, but I don't consider this a reward for a job well done. Whatever they have planned here, I am not waiting around to find out. Another reason to get up and look around. We have powers and can fight, as evidenced by our victories, so may as well use them."

Perry got the sense there was some unspoken tension surrounding some of the others. This was not the time and place to hash that out though. Perry got up to follow Bethany when he door opened and out came an incredibly handsome man. Like, it had to be a crime to be this good-looking. Maybe that was why he was locked up? Pull it together Perry!

Mary acknowledged the man as a SHIELD agent. Another person who was attacked. "Great! The more, the merrier. Let's get going!" Perry followed Mary, who opened the door to a hallway. She stuck close to Flynn (for obvious reasons).

Sabine allowed Dorian his moment. It was the least she could do after seeing him stick it to the flaming freshman. Everyone appeared to be heading to the ship. Sabine did not want to go to the ship. Thankfully, as if God herself was looking down on her and said 'girl same', Sabine got a ping to her email. After checking it, she saw that a package arrived for her. It was probably her father sending her something after today's breakfast spectacle.

She took this moment to get out of seeing some dumb spaceship. "Hey, I just got a package sent to me. Any of you want to come check it out with me?" She directed this mainly to the peeps whose opinions she actually gave a fuck about. If any of the losers wanted to come, she'd let them, she supposed, but maybe she could also run and lose them in the crowd.

"We out here checking packages?" Chi Mai mused tilting her head towards Sabine. "Shit, I'm down, bebe." she continued, lacing her hands behind her head and gravitating over towards Sabine's orbit. To say that she was thankful for the out would be putting it mildly. She had love for D&D (fuck, she had love for everyone in her little way), but she was not remotely high enough to go check out a hunk of space junk and call it fun. Yet.

Besides...it gave her a reason to dodge the selection. Danni had brought up that they only had room for about four people at the birthday dinner, and like a sleeper who had just heard the codewords, she was activated - Operation Ghost was a go. She'd take herself out of sight, and hopefully, out of mind. It's a lot easier to cut somebody when they're not there. For as much as she loved to be around people, she loathed that aspect of social gatherings. It was simple logic that there wouldn't always be room for everybody, that some people wouldn't make the cut, but that didn't mean that she was happy about it. No matter how kindly it was put, somebody would get hurt. Somebody would be excluded. Somebody would be alone. If she didn't participate, then she didn't have to deal with the guilt of taking somebody else's spot - or even worse, not being selected for one in the first place.

She'd be fine. If anybody could find some sort of shit to get up to alone, it was Chi Mai. She had her weed, she had her guitar, she'd be fine. She'd be fine...

"What'd you order?" she asked as she approached.

As the two of them ventured away from the ship, Sabine merely shrugged. "Beats me. Probably from my father as a means of apologizing for how horrendous his new wife is or how annoying his new children are. He usually does buy me something whenever my horror of a step-mom does or says anything that pisses me off."

Though it was odd that he would send it to the mail room. Usually she got it the next time she saw them. Still, maybe he felt really bad at this moment in time.

They would arrive at the mail room relatively quickly. It was open. Sabine stepped inside, allowing the coolness of the building to wash over her. She hated the heat, even if it was mild. The kind-looking clerk glanced up at them as they approached. "Sabine Bassard. I believe I have a package." The clerk nodded and went to go retrieve it, leave them there for the moment.

"I am really sorry about your fortune Mai. Want me to alter her memory to make her think she's a chicken? That's always fun." Though she doubt she could. Agatha was powerful, to be sure. But if it put a smile on her friend's face, she would damn well try.

Mai chuckled at the offer, but didn't answer one way or the other, not at first. She threw her head back, basking in the cool, refreshing bliss that was air conditioning. "Fuuuuucccckkkk..." she groaned, seemingly at the relief of the temperature. In truth, she didn't want to think about Agatha and her fucking readings anymore but the old hag's words were playing on loop in her head and Sabine's reassurance had made her aware of it again.

The deceptions must cease to be - or you will.

She didn't want to worry Sabine - to worry anyone - but didn't the fact that her first instinct was to hide the fucking doom prophecy sort of prove the witch bitch's point? It was agonizing but...

"So...uhh..." she started before she was even aware that she had decided to confide. "Apparently I'm uhm...making promises I can't keep or whatever the fuck that means, because I'm going to die." Chi Mai confessed nervously with a chuckle. "She said 'your current path will lead to your untimely death.' and I uh...I mean, she's like...she's just fucking with me, I know, but..." she trailed off, looking away, focusing on a poster taped to the wall. Her words had escaped her. Whatever else she had wanted to say was lost as she fought against tears. She was not about to cry in front of Beanie. That wasn't fucking happening. She could hold it together. Barely, but as long as a tear didn't escape, that was a win.

Agatha had to be mental to tell a teenager that. Sabine knew (from movies and tv and the internet) that the Death tarot card did not mean actual death, but a symbolic death.

Sabine got the sense Mai wanted to unleash all the emotions she was feeling, but was hold it back. For both of their sakes. so Sabine decided, she would tell hers. "I'm basically going to have to face my past and change or my future looks bleak. I think she's off her rocker. No wonder she's retiring." She looked at Mai who was looking everywhere else but at her. "You are not going to die Mai. I'll burn the entire world before I let that happen."

Thankfully, the clerk returned, holding a rod-shaped package. Questionable look aside, the clerk glanced at them, one on the verge of tears and one looking pissed all-the-way-the-fuck-off, and left to the back room to give them space.

Sabine glanced at the package. A note was attached to it. Another oddity. Her father never added notes or wrote cards. He didn't need to. Sabine picked up the note and opened it. There was nothing written on it. Though she got the sense someone had tried. There were little indents on it. she turned it over and back again. "The hell? Who would send me a package and not sign it. There's noth-.."

Sabine saw something at the bottom. She read it. Read it again.

No, there was no fucking way. At the bottom of the note was one word, but the word sent a cold shiver up her spine. It had to be a cruel joke. If it was her father, he was fucked up. If it was her step-mother, she was dead.

Maman

Mom.

"...what's up, Beanie-baby?" Chi Mai asked, rubbing a totally dry eye because there was dust - definitely not tears - in it. In the silence that had fallen upon the two while they waited for the package, Chi Mai covered her face and totally did not cry. That would be their story. Even if Chi Mai had - which she fucking didn't - after Sabine's proclamation, who could have blamed her? Chi Mai didn't do this. She didn't open to up to people. Not really. It was fucking terrifying. Every insecurity in her had protested the act and yet she had done it anyway. And in her most raw, vulnerable state, there was reassurance. Though Sabine might not have thought much of it at the time, it had rocked Chi Mai's world. She had been expecting to be told that she was overreacting, that she was being too much again, that perhaps Sabine would need a 'break' from her, any number of things she had heard from friends in the past, but this was...new. Even with her own family, although loving in their own way, there was very much an expectation to be strong, to not be a burden to others. To cry - which she still wasn't, fuck off - in front of them was to be told to get one's shit together, although in more polite terms. It was weakness and that would not be accepted.

Was this what actual friends were like? What the fuck...?

Finally turning her red, puffy eyes to Sabine, she noticed the expression on the other girl's face and it sunk her own heart. "Beanie...?" she called, unsure how to reassure her obviously distressed acquaintance- no, friend?

Sabine wanted to scream. But she bit her tongue. Now was not the time and place to freak out. Mai was in a delicate state. This would only add to the pressure.

But seriously, what the fuck.

Sabine took the note and crumpled it and put it in her pocket. "Sorry, just rocked me for a moment. Seems I was right. It was sent by my family." Technically, not a lie. Though the reality was.....what was reality anymore? Her mom was dead. She went to her funeral. She watched them bury her.

Sabine shook it off. She would freak out later. She grabbed the package and started ripping it open. She didn't know what to expect from someone from beyond the grave. She got it free and looked inside.

This had to be a joke, right?

Sabine looked at Mai and then back at the gift before reaching in. Mai would see, being pulled out as if it were the story of King Arthur, a sword. It felt like a real sword. It looked like a real sword. But surely she wouldn't have been gifted a real sword? Who did that? And how did it get past security?

Even at a school for superheroes, this had to cross a line right? "I just got a fucking sword..."

Perry stirred a bit as she heard the others talk. She opened her eyes and sat up. "Corn Dogs!" Ok Perry, get a grip. She glanced around and noticed a few others with her. But not everyone. She didn't know names fully yet, but she knew there were definitely some of them missing. Were they elsewhere on this....wherever they were?

From the sounds of it, those at the mansion were attacked in a similar formation as them. "So we were all attacked in a coordinated manner and some of us were taken here and some of us were...not? Why were we grabbed and not everyone? Perry took in her environment more. If dank and depressing got married and had a child, the room would be that horrible abomination. She hated hospitals and this room was, granted, not a hospital, but what was it for?

"So should we take a look around? Get our bearings? I don't know if I am too keen on waiting for whoever grabbed us to come back in here and explain why we were grabbed in the first place. Grabbing people in general is a no-no. Plus, I never did get my food at the food court..."

This was getting to be a bit much.

Being adored by her fans on social media was one thing, but slowly this was becoming a group of nobodies. It was already bad enough that the flaming freshman had made his return, but the others who all glommed on to their original small pack were also proving to be rather annoying. The fashion don't made some quip that Sabine couldn't be bothered to hear before storming off into Agatha's tent. Leah had poofed also. Sabine was confused about her feelings about that.

But that could wait. They had more pressing matters. Such as Mai's fortune being less than stellar. Sabine almost blurted out her own poor fortune. Almost. Danni had beaten her too it with his own fortune of doom and gloom. Him? Killing everyone he loves? Impossible.

Or was it? Her own fortune had said she would have to confront her past and make some changes.

Thankfully, beautiful April pulled her out of it. "April's right. He is not worth the time and effort. Mai, I don't truly believe in that hullabaloo, it was supposed to be for fun. We are the directors of our own fates." If Sabine were being honest, she knew better. Agatha was who she was for a reason, but it was an attempt to make Mai feel better.

Before she could continue to heap praises and love on to her friend, she overheard Dorian tell the freshman off. She had to admit, it was the first time she saw Dorian in a positive light (other than the fact Danni and Mai liked him and she trusted their judgment. Most of the time......).

"Good on you telling him off. But we need to talk about this movie thing. Everyone seems to be inviting themselves to it. It's your birthday Dorian, who do you really want there and who do you not? I'll ensure the don'ts do not attend." A little mind wipe of the invitation would do the trick. No one would have to know.

Calliope listened as Banjo went on about his previous schooling, which included around a dozen boarding schools. She got the sense there was more underneath the surface. One doesn't just get kicked out of boarding school after boarding school by putting your head down and doing your work. Given what she knew of Banjo thus far in their limited interactions, she figured he was the class clown type. A prankster maybe.

It hadn't even crossed her mind that it might have been due to him being a Hyperhuman. America wasn't progressive in that realm either (or any of the other realms if one was being honest. America has literal Nazi's being vocal for Christ's sake!). "This school is...interesting to say the least. I've never been to a school like it with such stringent rules and dress codes. Granted, it wasn't like I didn't have my own set of rules governed by my father. Looking a certain way, acting a certain way. Everything had to be cookie-cutter perfect otherwise we didn't hear the end of it. Hell, the whole thing at the town center was because..."

Calli stopped herself. Was she ready to open up about a trauma she faced with a guy she just met? As cool as he was, she didn't know him well enough. Perhaps later? Though they were expected to be a team. Didn't teams share their personal lives to better shape bonds? "Never mind. Suffice to say, I think we all have our pasts and reasons for being here. As nutty as it might seem, I think you have it right. At least being a Hyperhuman here won't get you kicked out or shunned by society."

Calliope hadn't figured that the school might have the ability to morph the trials at their whim, limiting powers. Calli glanced up as Banjo mentioned the oncoming storm. "Yeah, looks like prime weather for me then. And I agree, our powers seem to complement each other. Or, at the very least, won't hinder the other. Provided you don't give off intense heat and I am nearby. Though not all heat is bad."

Calli needed to get a hold of herself. Openly flirting with a guy she just met. Ever since she arrived at the school she felt alone. Even amongst others like her. Head down. Get out. And the future was open.

Perhaps the others wouldn't be so bad.

It seemed the battle was over. The others had seemingly won their respective fights, or at the very least lasted long enough that the villains who attacked got bored. Still, what was going on? How was it that they were all attacked so openly, each matched with one person? "In my line of work, coincidences were not a thing. This reads as a planned attack against you all. Barry, despite being dead and not having actual lungs, was bent over, taking some deep breaths. "That was...intense. I don't know how you aren't tired."

Peregrine, satisfied with her patch-up job, walked over to the two spirits. "Barry, you helped us out a lot. I would really appreciate it if you stuck around with me and Ed. Goddess knows he could use some company. Ed rolled his eyes. "I do not need some fat mall cop working with me. I work better alone anyway."

Barry took some more breaths before speaking. "Ordinarily, I would say no and get back to walking around this mall. But something tells me it's going to be less entertaining after today. If you feel like I can be of some help, I'd love to join. Ed shook his head, but Perry ignored him. Having multiple spirits would only be beneficial. Peregrine took a moment, closed her eyes, and sent her call out to Barry, who accepted it. Once the bond was formed, Peregrine opened her eyes back up. "Great! Now let's go to the others. I still need my corn do-"

Before she could finish, the same orbs that took the villains came crashing down near herself and the others. A metal claw reached out and grabbed her, pulling her inside. Before Peregrine could speak, a gas emanated from within, quickly causing Perry to lose consciousness. Her last thoughts were about delicious corn dogs and how someone would pay for keeping her and them apart.

Sabine looked April over as the girl relayed her fortune from Agatha. If she were being honest with herself, Sabine was a bit jealous. That was the type of fortune she would have wanted. Prom Queen? Please, if anyone had that in the bag, it was Sabine. Still, it wasn't like April wasn't meant for great things. So then why did she seem to upset? On any other day and time and not surrounded by an onslaught of people, Sabine would delve deeper into this. As it stood, she didn't want April spilling her guts in front of anyone. And Sabine didn't want to use her powers. She respected April too much to do that.

Sabine took this moment of the sheer insanity of everyone talking and asking questions and just....bonding to step away a second. She took out her phone and snapped a picture of herself. It had been less than 5 hours since she posted on Fliterella and her followers were probably chomping at the bit for her post. She uploaded it and captioned it: School Life, These times will pass us by in an instant. Cherish these moments. #School #Blessed #TimeMarchesForward #LiveLaughLove.

After checking to ensure the right filter was added she made her way back to the others, just in time for the freshman from hell to make his triumphant return. Sabine eye rolled so hard she was afraid she strained a muscle. "Just ignore the situation Danny. He isn't worth the time and effort, much less the air he is breathing." And it was in that moment that Danny decided to ignore that very piece of advice and scoot over, untangling the jacket he had surrounding his precious egg, and handing it off to Dorian. Sabine shook her head, but couldn't help smiling. Danny was a piece of work.

And Danny's "constructive criticism" was on point. "If you walk out looking like a fashion don't, you shouldn't be mad when people point it out. He merely offered advice. Advice I would strongly take." Before Sabine could continue offering her strongly desired opinion, Mai sped out of the tent acting....very much not like herself. Sabine sped over to Mai, checking to see if she was hurt or worse. "What happened? What did she tell you?" This was two of her friends who came out worse for wear after a fortune from Agatha. If she counted herself (and let's be honest, Sabine's #1 friend was Sabine) then Agatha was making people feel worse. She had half a mind to storm back in and tell the old woman off, but for all she knew, Agatha would put a hex on her. Considering she was slowly being surrounded by a slew of annoying people, she was probably already cursed.

"You attacked a group of mutants at a mall and didn't expect this? Stylish, but dumb." Peregrine managed to miss those attacks, though she wasn't sure if she could last much longer. Thankfully, her small ghost army had her back. Ed and Barry ran up near her. "This is an average day for you? The most action I ever saw were some teenagers spray painting the walls." Detective Ed checked his watch. "We don't have time for this. Let's hit her with all we got." Ed looked over towards Barry, who looked back with an expression that read "are you kidding me?"

Still, to their credit, they launched into an attack, Barry shooting another zap at Mortis, hitting her slightly. It was Ed that took the win, clenching his fist into ice before reaching at Mortis through her chest. Peregrine didn't know what to expect, but she didn't expect what happened next. Instead of damaging the woman, Mortis turned into one giant icy pop. Peregrine looekd at Ed and then at Barry. "Well. Okay then. Not what I expected but a win is a win."

Perry looked for the others to see if she needed to spring into action. Mira (being the boss bitch Perry thought she was) seemed to be handling herself just fine. The other two, Caroline and Annie, also seemed to have matters more or less sorted (though Perry didn't know to what extent).

Perry glanced around the food court and spotted a first aid kit. It was abandoned (not surprising considering they were literally throwing punches and powers at each other) so Perry ran over and grabbed it. She started to patch her wounds up, though she had to admit, she was not trained in this sort of thing. Still, she wrapped it up to the best of her ability. It would hold until she sought actual help.

"Keep an eye on the others in case they need help, but I think they got this. Why were we attacked though? And why does it feel like this was coordinated? I mean we paired off equally. Something smells fishy and it isn't coming from Panda Express."
