Bio

Well now that I got the customary "post once" requirement out of the way....

HELLO

Welcome to my safe space. Well, about as safe as one space can be, I guess. If you are here looking for something, I am very sorry to disappoint you, but I made fresh cookies! Come sit a spell.

I guess I'll do some more in-depth stuff about myself. My name is Nick and I am 35 years old living in Illinois. I am a therapist and clinical responder (which is a fancy way of saying I go out on police calls to provide mental health assistance). Been doing therapy for a few years now and I absolutely love it!

I am a gay, cisgender man. I came out in January 2020 (smack dab in the middle of a pandemic. Timing was always my downfall). There is still much I am learning, but I am proud and happy to be who I really am and not have to hide it anymore!

I am an avid gamer, especially roleplaying games (cue surprised and shock noises). I also enjoy writing and reading, especially mysteries. I am not new to roleplay, I promise. I have been doing it for years now in different formats. I am experienced, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I use humor as a coping mechanism for sure, but I also like laughing and enjoying myself. Life can be pretty sad and upsetting for the most part and I don't want to add to it.

Whew! That got deep!

I will be poking my nose around in spaces and hoping to jump headfirst into this. Some interests I have in terms of roleplay settings include superheroes, DnD, science fiction/fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, horror stuffs, apocolypse, and espionage. And I am a fan of most things pop culture. If you have any suggestions or possible roleplays you think I would love, please let me know.

Otherwise, stick around! This is gonna get wild!

It was supposed to be a fun carnival.

Millicent embraced Dorian, squeezing him so tight. It had truly been so long since they were together. "Dorian! I am so beyond thrilled to be here with you! And Danni! And April! Big family reunion up in here!"

While Millie had a nice reunion with beloved family members, Sabine bit her lip and thought about all the ways she was blessed with found family. "No, Percy, we had enough of that over break. But a cute birthday post can't hurt. And I won't make you wear animal ears or a tail this go-around, how about that?"

It was supposed to be a fun carnival.

The tone of it all shifted. Sabine could feel something. It wasn't so much anything physical, but emotional. Mental. Spiritual. She looked around to see what had changed. Did someone spike the hot chocolate? Did a kid get hit in the face with an ice-filled snowball?

And then Danni was on fire. And the boy from before, the one Sabine had met, flirted with, and threatened with a lobotomy, appeared. And he was also on fire.

Panic ensued as the lot of them scampered around trying to help. April had managed to get Amelie away. The others got to work, helping both of them out. Danni was safely extinguished and Chase was put out shortly after with a fire extinguisher. There was a brief lull as people composed themselves, as best they could in the moment.

It was supposed to be a fun carnival.

Millicent had no idea how to help. But it seemed everyone was okay. Or as okay as could be expected physically, at least. "Everyone cool? Do we need a moment to maybe step away? Take some deep breaths?" She didn't know the history before she strode up to everyone, but it didn't take a superpowered empath to know there was some anger, sadness, fear, all mixing amongst this group. It seemed to her that Chase, her roommate, had a history with Percy and, by extension, some residual anger from the others, like Leah. And one of the other new kids, Ben, was just as confused as her, probably more so. But Millicent knew this wasn't her tale to tell, and it would, perhaps, be best if those impacted handled it on their own.

Sabine, however, was reeling.

Sabine listened as Percy broke down, wondering how it could have gone so wrong that Danni had befriended Chase, to one of the new kids she hadn't met before, but was clearly with Chase, being confused, to Chase essentially on his hands and knees, begging for forgiveness or to be punched in the face.

Sabine found herself back in her childhood. She had grown up privileged, but that didn't mean she didn't face her own demons. How long was she labeled a villain for doing nothing? How often was she put in situations where, no matter what she did or said, she was labeled as wrong, evil, a freak? Her own family, aside from her mother (and she was still reeling from that dream), had seen her as a liability, something to contain and hold. Society painted her a villain; Leah and Dorian thought of her as such before she got to know them.

Sabine's journey with her sexuality was tamer than most. She knew early on that she did not really care if it was a boy or a girl. But she still struggled with the wording. Her first kiss was with a girl, but the girl said it was only a test and that she didn't fancy girls. The next was a boy who only did so as a dare. She was a weirdo, and the boy lost the best. Eventually, she had come to terms with the fact that she needed something more. Something tangible, emotionally, with those she was interested in. It was why Leah was so great and things with April...well, they didn't pander to much in the long run. And that was on her.

To hear Chase tell it, he seemed to struggle with a lot of things internally. That struggle lashed out on someone he cared about. It wasn't an excuse, but it was an explanation. Chase had been dealing with this for a long time. Sabine didn't blame Danni on confronting him and finding a friend in the end; he had that superpower. She also could not blame Percy for being hurt seeing someone he cared for get close to another who hurt him so deeply, even unintentionally.

And now they, as a group, were almost here playing judge, jury, and executioner with Chase. That wasn't fair. It wasn't right. This was not their story to tell; their place was in the background, allowing the parties involved to lay it out and come to some reconciliation. Sabine felt herself welling up, but she didn't want to take away from Chase or Percy or Ben. So she remained silent. Chase needed someone on his side, though. He needed someone to tell him he had an ally, someone who understood where he had been and where he was.

Sabine closed her eyes and sent off a telepathic connection to Chase. She wanted to be careful, knowing the last time she did this she ended up hurting someone and being permanently connected to another, but she managed to get a solid hold.

"Chase, it's Sabine. Don't freak out, I am communicating telepathically. I want you to know that I understand, I get it. I've been in your shoes before. This is between you and Percy and I didn't want to take it away from you all. Just know, I see you, I hear you. And I am here to talk about it if you need someone."

Sabine broke the bond and opened her eyes. The tension still there.

This was supposed to be a fun carnival.

Millicent hugged her uncle tightly, not wanting to let go for the briefest of moments but doing so anyway. She knew each of them cared in their own unique way and that they were a phone call or text away, but she didn't want to rely on them too much. Aunt Val's concerns rang in her head, vocalized before. But Millicent needed to do this. She needed to be on her own two feet and on her own. She wouldn't have protection all the time and she needed to understand her powers. And she needed to be around others like her that were her own age. As much as she enjoyed singing with Uncle Harry or learning defense with Aunt Val, she also missed being around other kids.

"I love you all. I'll see you soon."

Sabine let them have their moment, but she felt her heart hitc a bit, knowing full well that her family wasn't here spending time with her before school got started. Her father was off doing something, though he let his opinion know about her continuing to come to the school (despite her winning the contest, which he also never did congratulate her on). And her stepmother was probably in some country spending his money. Hell, at this point, Sabine would have even appreciated a backhanded text from her about the contest win.

But nothing.

Once Millicent finalized her goodbye she returned to Sabine. "Sorry about that. Haven't been away from them for a while now. But, we were talking about the others. Shall we go enjoy the carnival?"

Sabine shook off the feelings. She was walking around with the Millie Broadway. "Ah, yes. Let's head over to the big stuff. I am sure we'll run into some of the others along the way."

Millicent followed Sabine closely in step. "So, what can you tell me about all of them? I admittedly know Danni and Dorian being that our families connect and I met April back at the party and heard about them from the Double D's...oooh that's an unfortunate nickname I just gave them, forget I said that...and admittedly I have been MIA from them for a while doing the whole music tour thing on top of having to go into hiding after the attack, so any information on my new classmates would be a bonus."

Sabine had remembered reading about the attack. And seeing the aftermath, the storm brewing about Millicent's new mutant identity, how some stuck up for her while others called for her removal from upcoming performances, amongst other colorful things said. "Right, I am so sorry about that."

Millicent waved off the concern. She had heard a lot of it afterwards and she was fine. She was totally fine. "It's fine, really. Would I have preferred knowing I was a mutant before? Yes, of course. But it happened and we move past it. Plus, it got me closer to my aunts and uncles so...not all bad."

Sabine could see that. Either way, she was here now. "So, you want to know about the others. Well, there's Leah, who is my girlfriend. She's grown a lot. She's coming into her own, showing strong character, learning more about herself and is willing to explore her past. I am trying to get her to focus on her future too which she is open to. Either way, I am very proud of her. And then April was part of our poly for a bit. April is so sweet. She cares deeply about people. She's boosted my ego more times than I can count. We ended things and, admittedly, it was rough going after, but I think we grew up and learned more about ourselves and each other."

"Then there's Danni and Dorian, the Double D's, and no I will not forget that and I will use it constantly now. Danni is, ironically, a fire cracker in human form. Huge bouts of energy which can be equal parts endearing and annoying, but he truly puts his heart into others. He genuinely cares so deeply for those closest to him. Dorian was tough to get to know at first, partially because of his family's vew on telepaths, which I don't blame them for. Eventually we got to know one another and he's solid. I would trust him with my life and I know that extends past me being a telepath."

"There's Andy, who I am sure you know is a brickhouse physically and spiritually. Another rocky start there, but Andy really grew into herself during the course of the contest. She's strength incarnate and I can't help but be inspired by her. She's dealt with a lot and overcame so much. Percy doesn't show much of himself, but I've gotten to know him better. He's very smart and him and Dorian are so cute together! And then there's Victoria. She's a tough one to get to know at first, but she means well. Me and her have a pychic bond weirdly enough, which I hated at first, but it's been valuable. And she is really trying to be a part of us even though she did't take part in the contest."

"There's some other new people, but admittedly I don't know all of them as well. I met Chase at the party and he seems...there's something there. There was an issue with him and Percy, but he seemed nice enough?"

Millicent took all the new information in. "Quite a bunch. Good to know about Chase since he's my roomie. But I am so excited to get to know everyone!"

The two of them came up to a stand and Sabine clocked a number of people there. She walked over and came up to Leah, planting a kiss on her cheek. "Hello gorgeous!"

Millicent followed shortly after. "Wow, gang's all here, kinda sorta. Hey guys!"

Sabine looked around and her eyes clocked on April. She had done something new to her hair and it looked good. It suited her. Sabine's attention came to Percy. "Happy birthday Percy! Are you cool if I do a birthday post on the Excesior social account? I won't if you don't want me to."

Sabine looked back at Millie. "Right, sorry, not work mode, fun mode. This is Millicent Broadway if you haven't met her yet or don't know about her. I was giving her a little tour and we spotted you all."

"Yes, I am looking forwrd to getting to know you all! That's some delicious looking drinks. Definitely want some before...I think there's tubing? Gonna need to be a part of that action. Anyone else up for it?"
Almost done with a post, hoping to have it done this weekend.

Laelette hated pirates.

Truth be told, she hadn't given it much thought before. She had never run into pirates, or rather, knowingly done so, in her travels. She met an assortment of characters, and possibly one or two of them were pirates. No, she was sure she hadn't. And even if she did, she would hold firm to her belief that pirates were contemptuous creatures. They served no purpose other than to be inconvenient to those who were sailing to distant shores, for business or pleasure, and put a real damper on the mood.

Reality check, though, Laelette wasn't in a happy mood when she booked passage. It was more of a spur-of-the-moment type of deal that landed her on the ship. She never wanted to stay in one place for too long. Get settled in and grow roots, and those roots were likely to burn with you well tucked into them.

So she got on the damn ship and made the best of it. The captain was well enough to look at, at least, but she wasn't here for that. She wanted to bunker down, open up a good book, and discover something new.

Instead...pirates.

Laelette heard the commotion before the ship rocked. She could hear the telltale signs of combat. Instinct kicked in, and Laelette slid along the wall. Some of the people she noticed were others who joined her on this cruise, but some of them were clearly people who had a rotten draw in life and decided to take it out on innocent people who wanted nothing more than to be left alone. She wasn't about to die here, so she moved along.

That was, until she collided with a rather stout orc man. He had his back to her and, once she slightly kissed his shoulder, he turned, long sword drawn and a nasty scowl on his face. Laelette held up her hands. "I want no trouble. I have very few valuables on me, but I will give what I have provided I can just move pa-" her words were interrupted when the afore-mentioned orc man had punched her in the face, causing her to tumble back. She felt herself bite the inside of her cheek and tasted blood.

Okay, now she was even more pissed off.

Laelette stood and held out a hand, the orc smiling now in amusement, before a fire bolt launched itself squarely in his face. The orc wasn't smiling anymore (she assumed as his face was very much on fire now), and Laelette launched another as the orc man was engulfed. He flailed around a bit, hitting the wall and some detritus on the ground. Soon, fire started spreading everywhere, and Laelette made the conscious decision that, in the future, perhaps it was best not to shoot fire out of her hands on a ship made with flammable material. The orc was dealt with, though, as she scooted over his burning husk and made her way towards the top of the ship.

Where there was more chaos erupting.

Gods, she fucking hated pirates.

Cassie let the silence hang for, perhaps, a bit too long. There was something here that was bothering her. She had always been good at reading people. After all, it wasn't like she was able to do anything else at home. She got very good at knowing who was being honest with her and when they were lying (and they were always lying to her). Her parents, most of all, held hidden agendas frequently. It was part of the main reason she ran away and joined this school.

Cal appeared easy-going about it. A thirst for knowledge. Genuine in his interest. Nick, however, concerned her. He was like a cat upon meeting a new person, untrusting, skulking around with narrowed eyes as if a single movement would threaten all he held dear to him. And that, quite frankly, irked the hell out of her. She was new, granted. She had to earn her reputation, but surely she should be given a chance to do so. And did she even want to earn his praise? He was part of her coven, and that had to count for something, right?

Right.

"Well, I read up on the Witch Trials, found a lot of good information about it. Solid information also, and some of the things I read were made from, I think, human flesh? And that's something I am going to need to get over very quickly, I feel, but there it is. Anywho, I compiled all the texts on one table back there. But, for the other part of the research you wanted, Cal, I found out more about Krodha. And..."

Her spiel was interrupted by something flying at her face. She fought off the urge to scream, but she ducked down instinctively. She looked to see what it was and it was....was that a moth? A big moth? Then it clicked. It was Willow's seeing-eye moth or whatever. Then she heard the screams of someone at a distance. It took Cassie a moment to recognize, but she knew it was Willow's voice. Something was happening. She looked over to Cal and Nick to see if they heard and would run off, but it didn't matter. Cassie turned and ran back where she came, following the voice.

Whatever was happening was causing Willow intense distress. Was she being attacked? Surely not, not at this school. She turned the corner and saw someone crumpled to the ground. Cassie strode forward, nearing Willow. "Willow? Are you okay? What's wrong?" Cassie lowered herself to her knees and tried to put her arms around Willow, comforting the girl. Cassie scanned around herself to see if there was an active threat. The only thing she noticed was an open journal. Cassie got the sense that whatever was causing Willow anguish had to do with it, but Cassie could not pinpoint what. And she didn't want to read it herself, lest she fall to whatever Willow was going through.

"It's okay, I'm here. It's going to be okay."

The slots ring-a-ding, pouring out the winnings to the patrons of Velour and Valor Casino. Giddy from free drinks and the promise of misfortune overturned. It was music to his ears. Giancarlo Valenciaga ran it all with a closed fist, as many a 'lucky' gambler knew all too well. Everyone knew the Valenciaga family held roots deep within the city of Reno. Authorities looked the other way, especially when the chief of police was rumored to have gotten quite the 'donation'.

Suffice to say, things ran relatively smoothly. People paid, sometimes walking out with more than they came in. And it there was a lucky son-of-a-gun who happened to be doing well, then they were given the VIP treatment.

And they were never heard from again.

Giancarlo sat in his office, counting stacks of cash on his desk like his life depended on it. His wife, sitting across from him on an IKEA couch, checked her freshly done nails. Winona Valenciaga enjoyed the finer things in life and Giancarlo loved to give her such luxuries. It was a match made in hell, if you really looked into it.

They had two children, the lights of their life (whenever they managed to be around them). They had a home there and another in Puerto Rico, which they went to occasionally whenever they needed to hide out a bit. Despite this, things were good. Great even.

Until now.

It had been many months since Sabine had a restless night. She didn't remember dreams often, which was ironic when you thought about it, but this one was different. It felt connected to her, like it specifically grabbed her and pulled her into its ethereal umber.

The woman who spoke was breathtaking, in more ways than one. Not only was she a commanding presence, beautiful to look at, but Sabine felt like she demanded respect, like she could ask any of her followers to stop breathing and they would listen.

But it wasn't the imposing woman that got Sabine's attention. It was another voice, one that she hadn't heard in years. Hearing it now brought her back, to memories long ago buried, but with the words Sabine was right back there. As Sabine's attention turned, she caught sight of the figure.

Her mom.

Sabine's breath hitched in her throat. She wanted to run over to her, put her arms around her mom and hug her, scream at her, cry in her arms like she was a little girl again, but Sabine couldn't move. The scene played out anyway. Sabine noticed the tarot cards, each with a figure on them. Her mind was jumbled from multiple vantage points, converging into something she struggled to piece together.

And then she woke up with a start. She took a moment to catch her breath. It was a dream, it had to be. Her mother wasn't alive. She couldn't be.

But then Sabine's mind went back to another memory, of seeing her mother and a man who was not her father, standing together, close. And Sabine wondered.

As she lay back down, her mind raced. What did it mean?

Sabine's head pounded despite how many headache pills she took. She didn't get any more sleep after that dream (and it had to be a dream). Now, she was here at the carnival. What should have been a time of fun, of getting things together for the upcoming school year, was now overshadowed by her own mind playing tricks on her.

Highly visible, believable tricks.

Sabine had sent a lot of time before school getting herself situated as Team Excelsior's social media manager. She showed up in front of some of the school's upper staff to make her case as to why a student should be taking over. With the help of Danni and Dorian, she had come up with a solid presentation on her own social media management, how she was well-versed in traversing the highs and lows that came with the territory, and how it would free the school of a chunk of attention that could be served elsewhere. She, of course, would be in touch and would keep everyone up-to-date.

Thankfully, the school agreed. She spent that time gathering up pictures, setting up videos, and ensuring each of her team's social media presence was as squeaky clean as could be. Some were easier than others; Andy and Leah, being fairly new, Vicky was pretty much non-existent in that realm, Danni and Dorian having social media experience helped a lot, Percy was...tricky, but Dorian could help him, and April seemed content to follow along. What could have been a very unfortunate, very traumatic experience for them was managed. There were some negative messages, rumors spread (some including herself and how she was, apparently, flirting with multiple people and engaging in serious behavior with Andy and Leah. The rumor mill would churn, despite her best efforts.

Sabine got her schedule and made her way over to some of the club booths set up. She opted to join the debate team, which she had chosen because she wanted to brush up on her ability to manage situations using her words, but also to showcase her skills outside of her own powers (how many would accuse her of reading a person's mind to know how to combat their point?). She also joined theater and was looking forward to what production they would be doing. She debated on a sport and, after looking over her options and her schedule, decided on track.

Satisfied with her choices, Sabine wanted to find the others. She needed to talk to someone about her dream. She glanced around, but didn't spot anyone. She strode forward and ran into someone, both falling to the ground.

Millicent never really enjoyed school. She didn't hate it; she was never one of those kids who were adamant that school was useless or boring or dumb. She was never a student who enjoyed it. She enjoyed the lessons her aunts and uncles taught her more. Real-world applications for learning how to defend yourself versus knowing Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.

But she had a great feeling about this school and this year. She already knew two people (three, if you counted April), and April was definitely someone Millie wanted to get to know better. The others seemed cool. There was a moment (a BRIEF moment) when she worried that her fame would affect her ability to be here and learn, but she was told there wouldn't be any issues. Some of the people here didn't even know who she was (wild to think about).

Millicent perused the offerings as she collected her school schedule. Millicent was also lucky enough to have her aunts and uncles with her here. "So, not too thrilled to be sharing a room. Apparently his name is Chase? Pretty cool the school is progressive enough for co-ed dorms, but sharing a bathroom will be my greatest battle to date!"

Millicent settled around the booth for the school choir. It might be on the nose, but she didn't want to put her music on hold while she attended school. As she turned to head back, she stumbled into someone and she landed on her butt. "Yikes, sorry about that, I need to watch where I am going. Head in the clouds, I'm always told."

Millicent stood up and reached a hand out to the girl she collided with. Sabine took a second before grabbing it and stnding up. "Holy crap, you're Millie Broadway..."

Millicent smiled warmly, figuring this sort of thing would be happening more. "Yes, but please, it's just Millicent or Millie. And you're Sabine Bassard, right? I saw you during the contest. You were very cool. All that mind stuff is just so fricken' tight!"

Sabine fought a hard urge to giggle, pulling herself together. "Oh, well thank you! It's so nice to meet you, I am a big fan! I saw you during the afterparty and wanted to go say hi, but things got very emotional at the end there and, well..."

"Oh, girl, I know! It was very sweet how you all came together. You guys killed it! Makes me ten times more confident in my choice to come here."

"Yes, I heard you were coming. Welcome to the school, then." Welcome to the school? Christ, Sabine, pull yourself together!

"Thanks! I am looking forward to getting to know you all. Oh, let me introduce you," Millicent said as she moved closer to her family. "These are my aunts and uncles. Val, Eva, Harry, and David, though you perhaps know them already if by reputation alone."

Sabine knew of Harry, for sure, and the others came up in conversation; she was pretty sure. "Nice to meet you all!"

"So, where are the others? I'd love to get to know the rest of Excelsior!"
So this seems to be progressing faster than I can keep up, so I am actually going to step down. I do appreciate you making room for me, but it seems like you got a great bunch here.

We still got Rogue's Row tho
So I apologize for the confusion, but I had Avalon go in and get settled, so she is inside the building. She just hasn't met with anyone yet as I wanted to wait for everyone to get there.
