Well now that I got the customary "post once" requirement out of the way....

HELLO

Welcome to my safe space. Well, about as safe as one space can be, I guess. If you are here looking for something, I am very sorry to disappoint you, but I made fresh cookies! Come sit a spell.

I guess I'll do some more in-depth stuff about myself. My name is Nick and I am 35 years old living in Illinois. I am a therapist and clinical responder (which is a fancy way of saying I go out on police calls to provide mental health assistance). Been doing therapy for a few years now and I absolutely love it!

I am a gay, cisgender man. I came out in January 2020 (smack dab in the middle of a pandemic. Timing was always my downfall). There is still much I am learning, but I am proud and happy to be who I really am and not have to hide it anymore!

I am an avid gamer, especially roleplaying games (cue surprised and shock noises). I also enjoy writing and reading, especially mysteries. I am not new to roleplay, I promise. I have been doing it for years now in different formats. I am experienced, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I use humor as a coping mechanism for sure, but I also like laughing and enjoying myself. Life can be pretty sad and upsetting for the most part and I don't want to add to it.

Whew! That got deep!

I will be poking my nose around in spaces and hoping to jump headfirst into this. Some interests I have in terms of roleplay settings include superheroes, DnD, science fiction/fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, horror stuffs, apocolypse, and espionage. And I am a fan of most things pop culture. If you have any suggestions or possible roleplays you think I would love, please let me know.

Otherwise, stick around! This is gonna get wild!

When was the last time she saw a dead person?

It had to be when she was younger. A family member surely. Was it her grandparent? No, they were still around. Had it been an aunt or uncle, a second cousin? It hadn't clicked for her because she didn't know them well enough to be sad. She remembered the eyes on her and her family though. She played the part well, she felt. Looking sad, casually wiping away tears that weren't there, oh woe is me for missing so-and-so, gone too soon.

Weirdly enough she recalled that her father was more sad than either her or her mother. Her father did not show emotion easily nor readily. Still, here he was.....sad wasn't the right word for it. He was worried, afraid? Who was it in the coffin and why did he look so..?

She was pulled back to the present when she felt arms around her. She looked to see Jake holding on to her, not letting her fall as she felt her knees weaken slightly. Annika was also in her field of view, saying something Cassie could only casually catch. She didn't even care about Barty's stupid smoke trick nor Rohan's comment about whatever magic seemed to be surging around her. She only cared about the fact they found what they were looking for.

"I'm okay, I'm fine," she said for their benefit, despite the swirling emotional roller coaster she felt herself on. What had she expected exactly? Did she really think there was a headless corpse in the basement? Or was she signing up to show she was brave and that she eserved to be amongst this group of clearly more experienced witches and warlocks? Surely a part of her, the chaos magic that made itself home inside of her, expected it, nourished in it, desired it. What's life without chaos? What's death without chaos?

"Thank you Jake. And you too, Annika. I'm fine." To show it, she stood up, releasing herself from Jake and walked forward a bit. "Mani-pedis are definitely needed now. But before that, what do we do about....the head? And where's the body?" Did they tell a teacher? The head of the school? What were the rules for this now?

Chaos. That was it. She felt chaos. And it felt...good.

Once Vicky's thought entered her head, she realized she had sent that thought about Leah. She was still getting used to this telepathic link. "Sorry, Vicky, everything is fine. Leah just...dealt with something unfortunate, but she will pull through. Tried to help and couldn't. Nothing dangerous."

Her attention returned to Carlos, though. Had he seen them in the future with....swords? Was it a good thing? Was it dangerous? "I don't suppose you remember much more than that? Did it look like we were fighting? Or were we happy? The thing about my team is that, usually, things go very wrong, so if I could get a heads up to potential bad vibes, I could maybe nip it in the bud." Also...sparkly? What did that mean?

Before she could ask qualifying questions on the sparkly details, Leah had trudged over and stated she would go see if April was okay. Marlena attempted to assuage the worry to no avail; it seemed. Before Sabine could agree and go with Leah had stormed off with very few words. Whatever conversation she had with Carlie had done some damage. Sabine clenched her fist. No one made her girlfriend that upset. "Would you both excuse me for one second? I want to hear more, but there's something I need to do first."

Sabine made her way over, bending down to pick up Marlena's knife. She stepped up to Carlie and looked her in the eyes. "Hey, we don't know each other. I'm Sabine. Leah's girlfriend. The girl you were just a dick to? Remember her? Listen, I don't know what crawled up your ass today and perished, but that is not how you treat people, even on bad days. She was excited to see another giant here, maybe someone she could talk to about things she can't really talk to anyone else about. Maybe not right away as you both just met, but there was a possibility there before you chewed it up and shat it out. She's an amazing person and if you could take your oversized head out of your own ass for two seconds, hell maybe you can find what died up there, you would see that she could be a decent person to hang out with. I'm sorry your crush shot you down, but if this is how you treat the general populace, they are probably better off. Next time you see her, either apologize or run the other direction because if you hurt her again I will show you pain like you've never experienced. Have a pleasant day." Sabine turned back and walked to Carlos and Marlena, handing her knife back. "Anyway, you were saying something about me being sparkly?"

Millicent was getting irritated on the girl (Glimpse's?) behalf. She wanted some alone time to talk to Andy, someone she seemed to recognize and Andy recognized in return. Surely the others could give them that. "Listen guys, I don't know the ins and outs of anything that happened before I got here so maybe it isn't my place to say, but the girl seems to be genuinely lost and confused and rightfully angry with a bunch of people launching questions and possible accusations her way, so let's give the two of them space, yeah? We can go get some chocolate milk or something," she stated, eyeing Danni.

The conversation quickly turned to Dorian who had some dream about Ser Nemo. Millicent had never met the man, but he knew of him from the others. He sounded like a decent guy. To hear that he had maybe not died was...interesting. "What makes you think this was a prophetic dream and not like a 'I miss him' dream? Also why would he fake his death, if he did?"
Okay this sounds dope. I am interested :D

It was clear in the moment that things could very well have taken a turn for the worst. The clicking sound reverberated in the room as Sam had pointed a live weapon at Whitney with full intention of shooting her. It would have been a hell of a mess to clean up. Imogen could only look at Sam with a concerning gaze. What was she here for if not to prevent this type of thing?

A plausibe story as any, a gas leak, she supposed. "Yes, there's been a gas leak and that is what's causing all of this. We have things under control but we need to get you out of here and safe. Are you okay to move?" She reached out a hand to offer Whitney some help, showing she had no weapons active and pointed at her.

"We'll have to move quickly so as to not breathe in any more. If you're hurt we can see about your injuries once we are safely out. But we need to be moving now." Though her gaze was directed at Whitney, the words were for everyone. Whatever was happening elsewhere did not matter in the moment for them. Getting Whitney out was her priority, if for no other reason than it would be easy to control the narrative if she could keep eyes on her.

Plus, as of right now, Imogen didn't trust Sam to not blow the girl's head off at the drop of a hat.

Millicent doubted there would be much else she could get from Richard in this state. She was sure Richard wasn't involved in Renee's or Miguel's deaths. It was hard to fake lapses in memories, there was always a tell. So she sat fack and allowed George to escort Richard to his room.

It was clear to her that Eleanor ha a hand in this somehow. The problem was how did they go about questioning her? It wouldn't serve to outright accuse her and she doubted Eleanor would spill the secret as to how nominaitons worked and if she had a say in Renee coming here. The message Renee received bothered her. Was it sent by Renee or someone else here?

Once Richard and George were safely away, she whispered to Brendan, "Eleanor is the person we keep coming back to. She's involved somehow, either willingly or not, but my money is on her knowing who Renee was in relation to Richard. We need to go see her again. She wanted us to come back anyway."

She was happy Jake seemed to be doing all right, though it was still unclear if he was saying so because he didn't want the others to worry or not. She would keep an eye on him. "I'm doing okay, I think? Never really been a fan of big, scary, dark basements, but then again I have never been in one, but new experiences and all that! Not too thrilled that the school I am attending doesn't seem to have such great security, what with a potential beheading and experiments and shadows being manipulated down here. But, it's fine! I'm fine! And yeah, we can play. We gotta get ready for the mani-pedi party happening!"

She felt a chill and didn't know if it was from the lasting effect of Jake or if the basement was creating the environment. She wanted to get out of here, but that would just lead to the others, especially Barty, wondering why she was even here. If magic school meant searching for beheaded corpses then gosh darn it, she would look for fricken' corpses.

Speaking of Barty, his snide comment and misnaming of her fueled her to press forward. She didn't care how skilled he was, how long he lived, or any other such facts. He and his brother were assholes and she would be damned if she was putting up with it. "Whatever you say, Farty." She chuckled a bit. Was it childish? Yes. Did he, more than likely, hear himself be called more clever names? Most likely. But it made her feel better.

Connie's words were laced with venom and Cassie briefly fell inwardly, wondering why someone she thought was so cool was being rude, when it became apparent the venom wasn't directed at her necessarily. It was a hastily put up wall, an explosion should have done something! But Connie had used her magic and transformed a portion of the wall from stone to paper. It was mad impressive! "That was so cool! And helpful! Now we can see what's behind wall number one!"

Cassie forgot, briefly, for a fleeting moment, what they were doing down here as she strode up to the wall and began to take the paper in her hands and rip it. She got through it with ease, marveling again at how skilled Connie was....

Until she got through. And laying there, fresh as can be, ripped apart wildly from his body, was the head of Pedrito.

Cassie stumbled back and nearly fell as she pointed to it. No words came out, but all she wanted to do was scream.

Well, Sabine certainly didn't expect that.

She forgot where she was for a brief second before she returned to her own consciousness. So, Carlos had a dream about her? She had never met Carlos before. Was he a follower of her's? She looked over to Marlena to see if she could make some sense of this, but she was distracted by her phone before Sabine realized her own phone was going off. She took it out to see the message sent to the Excelsior group chat. Some chick from Camelot? At least April seemed to be okay. But this was yet another thing she would need to handle.

But that could wait for now. "You had a dream about me? Not that I'm not flattered, but that's a bit random. No, didn't change my hair at all. If anything, I grew it out a bit, but yeah. What did this me look like, exactly?" She wouldn't open up about her own dream, but she had an inkling the two of these events were connected.

Sabine then checked over to see Leah and the other giant, Carlie. It didn't take an expert on body language to tell that things did not seem like they were going well. Perhaps she could help. While she was more picky on when she would use her powers, she knew that she would need to. Perhaps she could just scan the surface thoughts of Carlie and see if she could connect something to use with Leah.

So Sabine sent her mind out and....hit a brick wall. Or a stone wall. Or whatever. There was no getting through. Eiother Carlie trained in mental defense or she was as rock-headed as Leah was.

She sighed inwardly and thought, forgetting briefly that VIcky would still hear her thoughts, "Sorry Leah, you're on your own."

Things were quickly spiraling wildly out of control. The good news was that the others were making their way. Danni and April had slid in and Dorian and Percy followed. She wouldn't be alone in dealing with this.........well she was hesitant to refer to the girl as a 'problem' though it was pretty evident she was getting irritated and could potentially lash out. But also, Millicent didn't blame her. Hell, there were plenty of moments when people were in the same room as Millicent and talked like she wasn't there. On top of that, it was clear the girl wasn't from around here or....around this time? If Millicent read the room correctly. That would make sense and would potentially explain how she got trapped in some weird ice cage before breaking out. Millicent couldn't imagine, no wonder the girl seemed to pissed.

She smiled at Danni's antics, happy he wasn't broken or bleeding, but he was going a mile a second. "Danni, take a breath for a second while we get this cleared up. Though I wouldn't say no to some chocolate milk."

Andy also showed up. Millie had spoken to her briefly, mainly because of her proximity to the K-G household and her connection to Val. She seemed cool and, by all appearances, seemed to...know the girl? Or know her family? Some girl named Glimpse but...the girl said it was her. Millicent's head hurt thinking about all of this potential time-traveling nonsense.

But the girl had a good idea. "You know what, that's a good idea. Andy and...Glimpse can talk things over and we can go get some drinks or something. Let them hash it out. Come, come, drinks are on me." She began to walk off, opening her arms to entangle the others in case they wanted to stick around. It was clear Glimpse wanted none of them outside of Andy to be nearby.

Cassie grew more unnerved as the conversation went on. She knew the school was magic, she knew the students had varying levels of interest in wild and out-there things, but surely the school wouldn't allow horrendous experimentation on their grounds without some level of supervision or protection.

Right?

And all the talk of blood? Playing with it, using it, morphing it. What freak show was she being a part of? And why was she sort of still excited about it? She was reminded of all the opportunities she missed growing up in her home with her parents overseeing everything. Even when she got her first period, she felt like there was A LOT of information not being shared by her mother.

Cassie glanced at Jake. She was sort of worried for him. She was happy he was making friends and learning new opportunities and skills, but she also knew that he was...special? Did people use that word still? He was sweet and childlike in his innocence, and she couldn't help but feel people would take advantage of that.

Jake appeared...elsewhere for a moment when Finley and Dyphoria got near him, and before she could react, he threw his head back, yelped in surprise and unleashed a cold front that sent a chill down her spine. She felt tired despite not having been so before. She went over to him, slowly as to not spook him any more. "Jake, are you okay?"

As Rohan and Annika played with shadows, Finley pointed out a wall with talk of more blood. She looked over at it and, not one to wait for a prince to save her (she may enjoy romcoms but even she knew that sometimes the princess had to save herself) she inspected it closely. She noticed that the wall was put together recently. It was dismantled before and there didn't seem to be a trick to opening it. "It was put together recently. You can see it. Maybe I can break it down. Stand back everyone!"

Once she was sure people were out of the blast zone she summoned her magic. Her eyes glowed pink and the energy formed in the palm of her hand as she held it towards the wall. The power swelled and formed itself into a butterfly as it flew over to the wall. She was a bit miffed that the spell seemed to be so...weak? That is...until the butterfly flew at the wall and exploded in a fiery blast. However, the wall remained intact. "Well...that didn't work, but it looks cool! Didn't know I could do that!"

Sabine took a step back, figuratively, and allowed Leah to connect with the giant. She pulled out her phone to check messages, immediately assuming the team had gotten into more trouble, when she saw messages from Andy and April. Danni and her...broke? The fuck did that mean?
"Yeah, agree with Andy. Going to need more information on that."
She sighed inwardly and her attention fell on Marlena, who was speaking to two of the others. One was a gelatinous cube that was communicating telepathically with everyone. With nothing else to do, she walked over to them. She heard the tail-end of some of the conversation. "Normally, not something you ask others," But she had to admit she was curious too. "But we meet many different people here. More than likely, different people from different worlds. So, everyone cool?" She was treading the line in case Carlos got incredibly offended or Marlena stuck another foot in her mouth.

Millicent continued to follow the girl, partly to ensure she didn't freak out any more than she was and inevitably do so on some poor, unsuspecting victim, but also to make sure she was safe when she saw some figures approach. Before she could relay the message of an incoming attack, there was a collision as all parties fell to the floor.

Millicent noted that April and Danni were part of the tangled mess. April was excited, at least. "Heeey April, umm so take a breath maybe? Luna Snow is not here, as I have explained already. This is..." Millicent blanked. She never got the girl's name. "I never got her name, but she was in the fortune teller's tent in some ice fortress and she broke out and is now...here."

Was that a sufficient explanation? Sure. It had to be.

The girl had looked at her with questions, so perhaps this was a good thing? A step in the right direction to get her situated and helped. "Yep, good ol' United States. Umm, we are at the Margaret Carter Institute in California. Specifically, Los Angeles. It's also 2039, which I feel is necessary information to point out to you. There doesn't seem to be blood. I think we're good, but maybe we can all go somewhere...not so out in the open and talk? Get your bearings, and we can figure out what happened."

Look at her stepping up and helping!

Millicent hated to admit it, but a part of her felt bad for Richard. Insofar as she could feel bad for any wealthy person. If Richard was telling the truth, he had no idea Renee had existed until recently. But that meant that whoever sent the text knew about Renee and Richard.

Millicent paused a second and replayed what Richard had said. Something about it was off. He knew what Renee was doing for work, but then he said he only found out about her last night. So either Richard was getting things messed up or he was lying. But...that was a pretty obvious lie.

Millicent hasn't had much experience with people struggling with memory. But it seems like Richard isn't aware. Millicent got the sense that when Richard referenced last night he didn't mean actual last night, instead he meant some time ago. Which means that Renee and Richard's connection was known for some time, at least.

She hated to push, but this information was starting to put things together. "Richard, I know it's painful, but if you truly cared about Renee and her mother, I need your help so we can find out what happened. Do you know who nominated Renee to come here? Or who made the final decision to ensure she makes it here? Was it Eleanor?"
