---FORT DAELANTINE---

"... A... a stingray? A poisonous fish~ A blade tucked against its tail~ It looks rather harmless, but is in fact deadly, I believe I have the title because of my apparent charm masking my lethality, but... haaah~ My charm is nothing compared to Alette's, is it?"

With only those words for description, Jarde imagined a normal fish having a really sharp and poisonous tail or maybe a poisonous... something hidden in its tail. He didn't know such a creature existed but he supposed there was more to the world than meets the eye. "Well, good luck with that, I guess." He remarked with Abigail's obvious... admiration for her leader.

"So if these guys killed the garrison, what are you guys doing here?" Jarde asked the next question. "I doubt you were just passing by and just took a look at the commotion."

Taka's two arrows lodged themselves into the gladiator's chest and made him stumble backwards. The fight between him and Cylus temporarily broken.

Cylus stood up but his sustained wounds prevented him from moving quickly and he limped towards Taka and Eclisse. Once he reached you, he took one glance around before suddenly pushing Taka to the ground. A familiar, spike sword then impaled him in the chest. It appeared that the gladiator had thrown one of his swords at Taka which Cylus blocked with his body.

Cylus dropped to the ground, looking at Taka. "Go... get... out of... here..." He said in his final breaths.

The gladiator was then joined by multiple Varjan Warriors and outnumbered the duo five-to-one. Confident in their victory they began to advance on Taka and Eclisse.

Nyx's fireball exploded a portion of the fighting. A move that did not go unnoticed.

Multiple Footmen then surrounded Nyx. They had long polearms which they thrust and jabbed into her, piercing through her scales and creating wounds. Not only that, there was a whole group of Footmen with bows taking aim at her. The Footmen's colors indicated that they were of the Concilium.

"W-Wha... What are we going to do?" Merilia frantically turned to her allies.

It was then Jarde unsheathed his sword once more. "Merilia, we're going to get the bowmen." The prince declared before turning to Tomoe. "You, take Angelise and get those polearmed Footmen off Nyx. Try to minimize casualties, okay?" He then turned to the ice-haired Sage. "Keerin, heal Myno. I want him assisting Tomoe and Angelise in taking care of those Footmen."

"Am I clear? Let's go!"

Keerin brandished her Heal staff and hovered it near Myno. "Don't move much, sir. This will not take long."

"I'm simply watching to see if anyone harms my beloved Alette. Because if they do, I'll fill them so full of my delicious poison that you won't even recognize them as they die~

But if you want to fight, I'll gladly show you what Abigail the Stingray can do~ Boys aren't usually to my taste, but sometimes I make an exception~"

It was clear to Jarde that this woman was dangerous but at least reasonable. "Well, I don't want to fight. It appears we're at a misunderstanding here."

And with a loud yell from one of the knights calling for a ceasefire, Jarde hoped that would get everyone's attention and get everything straight. He wondered though as to what actually happened in the fort. The reason why the mercenaries are here was also a mystery. If they are indeed here not as the enemy, then why are they taking the fort from the attackers? Jarde hoped all these questions can get answered in a table rather than in a cell.

There was also another question in Jarde's mind. "Oh and, what's a stingray?"

---FORT DAELANTINE---

"Eeeeeee...." Jarde watched as some of the Iron Rose Knights had a showdown with the warriors occupying the fort and had apparently slaughtered its previous occupants. There seemed to be a misunderstanding going on so he was a little reluctant to join the fight.

However, Fanilly was in trouble and that was enough to get him moving. He noticed, though, that some of the knights had already gone to her aid and he felt he was just going to get in the way if he joined that fight.

Instead, he noticed a deathly pale young woman in leather armor with a multitude of knives her as one of the emerging mercenaries. Before she and her allies could join the fight, Jarde put himself in front of them along with his horse which he then dismounted. "Hey, hey now. If you wanna join in the brawl, you can find one right here." He bravely declared, his tone confident.

"Please don't tell me you wanna join in the brawl." He suddenly begged with a nervous smile.

---CANDAELN COURTYARD---

"No curse. It was a joke."

Knight-Witch Merilia

"Huh...?"

---ONE WEEK LATER, EN ROUTE TO FORT DAELANTINE---

Fanilly led a detachment of knights to Fort Daelantine after receiving an ominous plea for aid. Jarde found it a bit suspicious that they specifically asked for the Iron Rose Knights to help. Then again, the order is renowned so it was probably the go-to group for any sort of help.

The small regiment was getting close to the besieged fort but there were no signs of the enemy or ally or anything for that matter. Something that was noticed by the knights and got them on guard.

Jarde rode his horse to the front of the group to meet Fanilly. "Captain Danbalion, permit to scout the area ahead. At the very least, I shall trigger any traps laid out for us." He requested. "I know it might be dangerous but I'm a pretty slippery individual." While he was glad that he was talking to Fanilly, it was not the time to indulge in that. Life and death hung in the balance.
