“It took a while but we’ve finally made it.” the young Kitsune said with a gleeful yet also deviously inquisitive look. Hoseforns was even greater then he had imagined. When the old geezer cat was describing it to him he made it sound like a pretty troublesome place, it was hard for Kota to understand why he stressed coming here. Whatever the case was he, it sure did look pretty.
As he came towards the gate to the beautiful academy, Kota slung open the rucksack that he had been carrying over his shoulder. After a moment of fumbling around his eyes shot open as he unsheathed the letter from his back, propping it up into the air as if he had pulled Excalibur from its stone.
Upon revealing the piece of parchment the academy gates swung open welcoming the young boy in with open arms. Kota smirked in delight as he tied up his ruck and trotted through the gates, Tis a shame no one was able to see that. the boy thought to himself as he made his way towards the main doors of the campus. As he took in the distinct scenery and smells his eyes twinkled in fascination. It was so much different than tribal living that it was nearly a culture shock. Upon that he has the courtesy of the moon and it’s stars to accompany him on this experience. As the young boy passed by students he made it apparent to greet them with a head nod or a simple hello.
As he reached the main doors he pushed them open with one arm finding himself to be greeted by an ever so large and beautiful Crystal.
"Greeting's new student. I am Athena. Welcome to Hoseforn's Academy for Gifted Adventurers. Please present your acceptance scroll now."
“A pleasure to meet you Athena, you look very illustrious this evening” the young man said as he extended out the scroll for Athena to examine.
”Aren’t you the charmer. Letter accepted. Welcome Kota Roubal the Crystal replied without a change in tone, Kota raised and eyebrow in curiosity.
"This is a map of the school grounds, your dorm number is 658. A fresh uniform and any supplies you require will be waiting for you. At the moment they are still being prepared. If you wish to freshen up, please feel free to use the public baths. Unfortunately because of your tardiness you have missed the opening feast. Please make sure to properly accommodate for future events.”
”Whaaaaat?!!” Kota shouted in disappointment, alas it was truly his fault. If he hadn’t been sidetracked with the wonders of the world then he’d had made it on time for the feast. The boy nodded, ”My apologies Athena.” after looking back at his acceptance letter he would see it has now transformed into a map of the academy, if the Grimalkin from town could see this they would totally flip! Out of excitement the boy quickly dashed off to his dorm room eager to see what else was in store.
The boy quickly ran through the corridors, cutting corners with sharp precision and narrowly avoiding trampling over other students until he reached his door.
”Welcome Kota Roubal”
Upon entering the room the boys look of excitement turned into surprise as he was met with a large fox eared woman nothing but a towel on. In which the boy quickly slapped his hands over his eyes and his cheeks flushing a light pink. Kota act natural, don’t make it weird. Calm yourself
As Kota covered his eyes, his nose became a bit sharper as he picked up on the woman’s scent. It was rather nostalgic yet different at the same time which piked the boys interest, not only that but also the large ears. Kota was also pretty sure that she had pink hair that matched it all as well. He couldn’t help but peak on more time, the boy slightly cracked open his fingers catching another glimpse before closing them shut once more and gasping.
”To think you would be in room” the boy said in excitement, completely disregarding the situation at hand. He was also pretty sure Athena had been going off about the rooms amenities but he had tuned it out completely. Quickly Kota turned to shut the door behind him before kneeling down. As he did so he would reveal his much short floppy ears and bushy fox tail.
”I’ve but only heard stories of you when I was a child but it’s another thing to be graced by your presence m’lady.” he spoke in their native tongue, it was a bit rusty since it has been so long but he managed somewhat. In thst moment he had then realized that he had peeked at the prophesied moon goddess in nothing but a bath towel his face turned even redder. She was even more gorgeous in person, to be honest Kota had very little regret but he was not going to let it be known. There were probably plenty of guys that would also feel the same.
”Please find it in your heart to forgive me, you have my word that I will not move from this position. then boy said very stiffly, it was hard to even tell if he was breathing.

Biography:
Being of Kitsune descent, Kota spent a large portion of his life in seclusion from the outside world. Hiding from those who sought to use their mysterious power for their own selfish reasons. Kota’s is of the Jemusumisu clan, known within their race for the silver hair and even more-so for their deep connection with magic.
Despite being part of the Jemusumisu clan, he did not reside within Koka Village like his brethren. Kota resides in a smaller colony spread far from Koka village known as Jotoki village. Kota has been an active individual all his life, always on the move in search of a new adventure. Sometimes it would end in success but most of the time in trouble resulting in a good scolding by his parents or others. Since Kota grew up an only child he would often times string along other kids to get involved in his shenanigans earning him the nickname “Ring leader.”
Life in Jotoki village was peaceful, unlike Koka village they were completely isolated. Choosing to live in total peace, not wanting to involve themselves with other races even in the slightest. Though with their ignorance in believing they would be able to live then rest of their days out in peace resulted in the downfall of Jotoki village.
Being creatures of great power and mystery, there are those who wish to exploit this characteristic of Kitsune. Kota recalls this day with clear recollection as it still haunts him to this day. The hooded figures that came storming from the distance, followed by huge volleys of magic that struck Jotoki village, rattling its residents to the core. He watched as his fellow brethren died while others were tackled before being restrained with cuffs and nets alike. Alas their assaulters were prepared, taking advantage of the moon cycle in order to calculate their siege of the village and their residents.
Kota was infuriated and scared, tears streamed down his eyes while he grinded his teeth. Frustrated with the fact that he was defenseless while everything was being taken from him. Without the moon there was little hope, even though he still tried to fight back. Kota charged forward at a nearby enemy who had his back turn to him, latching onto the mans leg before sinking his canines deep into the limb. As the man screamed the young pup Kota only tightened his grip and bit down even harder, blood filled the boys mouth as hell took a chunk out flesh out of the man’s leg. He then felt a heavy fist fall upon the back, effectively knocking the wind out of him and releasing the boys vice grip as he fell to the ground in pain. Shortly after Kota would feel himself being lifted up off the ground by his tail before being struck in the face, breaking the boys nose and sending him tumbling a couple of feet. He tried his best to get up but was unable to muster any strength, it was hard to breathe and his thoughts were cloudy as he struggled to get back on his feet. The last thing he recalled was a grimace forming on the mans face as he made his way over to Kota, the shadow of his frame slowly engulfing the pups body. As he saw the mans hand reach out for him the boy passed out.
After some time he came to in a coughing fit, no longer within Jotoki village. The room he was place in was dark, it was even slightly difficult to see the metal bars that confined him to his cage despite having improved senses. He felt like complete shit as his whole body ached and his nose was still broken, his face was caked with dried up blood and the skin on his black was bruised badly, purple and sensitive to the touch. Nonetheless the situation seemed rather hopeless as he was at the mercy of his captivator. He would then hear a familiar voice call out to him.
”Kota, your awake now huh. Your parents would be glad to know you made it.”
It was difficult to make out who was speaking to him, he most likely would have been able to do so if his nose wasn’t broken. But based on the fact that he understood the man he deduced it was another clan member. Even so it took a second for the boy to process what was being said to him. As Kota was about to respond he could hear 2 sets of footsteps approaching before the door opened. As the two figures stepped into the room, torches would illuminate the area revealing a masked man clad in leather armor walking with another man. Another man walked in also wearing a mask but he wore dark robe. Along the mans body were amulets and rings alike along with a belt full of pouches, Kota watched as he strolled up to his cage. He muttered something as a decrepit smile formed under his mouth, Kota’s ear twitching as he the sound send a chill down his spine. Soon after the man would chant a spell aimed directly at Kota, upon contact with the magic the boys eyes would suddenly grow incredibly heavy eventually leading the boy to pass out.
When Kota came to once more he would find himself bonded to a table. Now face to face with the strange man from before except now his mask was of. His eery voice certainly matched his appearance but the creepiest thing about him was the lack of pupils. It was almost as though he had lacked a soul, for next couple of days Kota would go through numerous tests, all torturous and extremely painful.
After his tests was over for the day what seemed like what was the man’s assistant would come and nurse the boy back to health. A young woman with curly brown hair, a slender frame and equally dark eyes to match. Her skin was something reminiscent of bronze as well. Strangely enough to Kota’s surprise she was kind to the boy. She had managed to patch up his nose as well as nursing the wound on the boys back. They’d talk from time to time or at least try to but the language barrier proved difficult. Even so they still managed to enjoy each other’s company while Kota was there.
Kota to this day still doesn’t understand why she helped him escape, it all happened so suddenly. She had opened the door to where he had been being held captive and rushed him out shoving him into a dim room to hide. He tried eavesdropping on the conversation going on outside, attempting to pickup any change in tone but to no avail. The boy decided to examine where he had been rushed too. Upon turning to face the room he heard a strange voice coaxing him, the sound feeling very ominous.
”Your running out of time…he will soon find you out. This is your only chance.” the voice was rather coarse, sending a chill down the Kitsune spine with how close it felt. The pup whipped his head around to be face to face with what seemed like a lamp, it produced a sickly blue color. “I can bestow power upon you…relinquish some blood upon the lamp. Kota was rather suspicious of this lamp but it was true he was running out of time. The pup sink his canines into his arm before dripping his blood over the strange lamp, clueless to the fact that he had initiated a blood bond with a demonic spirit.
The lamp shook aggressively before cracking open revealing a large shadowy figure. “Well done, you shall prove to be an excellent vessel.” the figure said before fusing with the pup, effectively possessing him. Kota was confused but soon everything faded to black, his bright yellow pupils soon turning black as the demonic spirit had took over essentially.
Kota only recalls what happened that night in small pieces, when he had regained control there were strange catlike creatures pointing spears at him. They shouted at him speaking in a language he could not understand before tying the boy up and taking him in. His head was very foggy, his mana drained immensely despite it being a full moon. He had remembered the spirit possessing him, perhaps the full moon was able to keep the spirit from completely taking over?
Nonetheless he was delivered to what seemed to be a hermit on the outside of what the locals called Toisei village, composed of only Grimalkin. The hermit himself was a rather hardy, old grumpy Grimalkin whom Kota would come to know as Roubal. As he was placed in the man’s care the boy broke down crying hysterically until he fell asleep, all the emotions he had felt over his past month of captivity rushing to him. The loss of his home, family, and friends all hitting him at once. Now that he had felt safe for the first time in a long time he was able to process what had happened.
Roubal was a grimalkin man whom was well acquainted with magic who ended up fostering the young boy. Understanding that he was a young child that has gone through a lot. Roubal would go on to equip Kota with tools necessary to survive in the outside world, combat training, basic education and literacy, a ring to restrict his spirits control, even an advanced understanding of magic . Though this was no walk in the park as Roubal was a strict teacher and disciplined the boy quiet often. Still the two managed to get along rather well.
When Kota reached the age of 18 Roubal handed the Kitsune a letter to Hoseforns, as Roubal saw it he was an adult now and it was time for him to carve his own path. The old guy was always spouting nonsense like that. Still, Hosforn’s was a good place to expand his knowledge of the world and also discover more about the resident within his soul.
Zenshin was still in a trance, it felt as though everything had been moving so fast for him. First making the knights, then being placed in the princes squad, then meeting the prince itself. Now he is making his way through the eastern barracks, taking in the nice scenery of what would be his new home. Speaking of home he would have to send his parents a letter letting them know that he managed to join the ranks. They’d definitely be surprised, perhaps even relieved that their son managed to do something worthwhile.
Nahhhh
They most likely would just be waiting for the inevitable to happen, such as Zen getting kicked out of the knights and awaiting his return home. The boy sighed before slapping his cheeks together. He looked towards his fellow squad mates before clenching his fists in reassurance.
I can’t afford to get kicked out, not only for my own sales but Prince Rosseweine, Vice Captain Nathaniel, and Vice captain Kai’s legacy . If I don’t become a full fledged knight I’ll leave a mark on his legacy. They’ll seem unfit to lead!
While Zen was locked inside his head he hadn’t realized he made it up to the front of the line. The boy managed to zone back in as he received his key but he missed which number he was in. Zen nervously scratched the back of his head, “Hehe…excuse me? Would you be so kind to say that again?” the man seemed incredibly annoyed as all he did send a bone chilling glare followed boy a feral growl at the boy. Startled, Zenshin backed off ”Nevermind, it’s okay I’ll sleep outside who needs a room anyways amiright?” he said as he managed to catch Signar’s brawly figure turn a corner. He quickly started after the large Caledonian managing to shadow him back to the room, not that he would’ve cared anyways but Zen had to save face somehow.
Upon entering the common room, Zen was happy to know there would be a private meeting place for their squad to communicate and speak amongst themselves. He then made his way to wear each of the quarters were, relieved that the rooms had name plates. Liese Brendorn and Dot...Captain Kai and Prince Rosseweine....aha! Zen would be pleased to know that he would have Signar as a roommate, despite being rather intimidating he seemed like a decent guy. The room itself though was incredibly small, despite being not as burly as Signar. Zen was one of the taller people within his squad if not the second tallest behind his roomate, perhaps they could have at least made a special accommodation for Signar at least. The best they did was provide a narrow spare bed for good reason, the beds themselves were not much better if you could even call it that. Sheesh, a coffin might give this bed a run for its money at this point. The boy thought to himself. Well he couldn't complain, the boy was glad to just be here. Inside he found his uniform which was a relief because he was on his last set of clean clothes.
Zenshins attention was adverted to his roommate who was formerly introducing himself before clasping his hand on the boys shoulder. The boy managed to mustered out a "Zenshin Ferrors, but I go by Zen." Struggling to not show himself in slight distraught by his roommates friendly gesture, Sig then offered to talk over supper as opposed to inside their cramped room.
"Sounds great, I'd love to join you for dinner Sig." Zen said rubbing his shoulder as Signar left the room. Sure he may look scary but he seems like a genuinely good guy, hopefully I don't have to spar against him anytime soon. The boy said following his roommate out, willing to provide additional assistance if anyone needed it.
It took a bit of work but thanks to the boys wiry frame, Zenshin was able to maneuver his way through the crowd successfully melding in wit the rest of the candidates center right of the big stage. Still anxious as ever but finding temporary sanctuary with the decline in judgment being placed upon him. He picked at the dirt under his fingernails as he pondered on what to do if he doesn't get picked, surely there was no return back to Valefor after walking out on the family. Perhaps he could beg and plead to be apart of the knights medical unit, his knowledge of herbs weren't particularly after all, or perhaps pick up a job at one of the taverns in town? Soon enough a notable man appeared in front of the podium and beginning his speech, the culling surely following after.
Zenshin stood there frozen in place as he faced the stage, it felt as though he had two anchors planting his feet to the ground, he even had to remind himself to breathe a couple of times just through the speech alone. Once the distinctive man who's clothes represented each of the four houses finished the opening speech, the southern house seemed to be the first up to select. The Crimson lions and their commander, Ser Rubeus Valentin. They listed off their selections swiftly, one of them being the boy who had humiliated Zen in his spar. As he walked across the stage Zen felt small scar on his cheek, the memories of the spar along with the emotions he felt still fresh from the battle. He could feel his emotions swelling up, he didn't want his knight journey to end right before they began after taking such a leap of faith.
Soon enough the Crimson lions ended their selection with Zenshin not making their ranks, its not like he expected to be picked by the first house surely. Perhaps maybe the second or third house in line to pick would snatch the kid from Valefor up hopefully?
Wrong
As both the Northern house and Western house selected their candidates, it was a given that he would not be on Manegolds radar to begin with nor Caius wards. This only left one person which would be ser Gilbert Tervellan, a commander whom is also of commoner origin.
Maybe there is hope for me after all? It makes sense after all for Tervellan to pick me up right?
The boy said easing his anxiety a tad bit as he looked at who else was left, the place seemed a bit on the empty side as a handful of 'people' were left over.
Oh Fendel have mercy
There wasn't just ANYONE left over, it was arguably some of the best candidates left over! Certainly leagues above Zenshin in everything and anything. Kai Sauvage and Nathaniel Lowren whom were the two aura users of our generation, the absolute guy whom destroyed their opponent just to name a few! What was Zen supposed to do in front of such greatness. Adding insult to injury this group was going to be headed by Prince Rosseweine Lupus Grayle with Nathaniel and Kai being the second and third seats.
Im pretty sure ther was a tavern at the beginning of town, maybe if I can earn my keep for the night if I leave right now.
The boy thought to himself slowly preparing to turn around.
"The remaining members of the squad shall be..."
"Signar Wayland"
Good for that guy, would be a shame for somoni of his stature to go to waste
“Zenshin Ferros”
Huh?
Zenshin spun back quickly towards the stage at breakneck speeds after hearing his name called. His emotions welling up as the emotional anchors placed upon his feet were released. A smile formed on his face as his eyes began to water, he had made it into the knights of Grayle. The boy tuned out the rest of the names called as he rubbed the tears way from his eyes, a smile forming on his face. Shocked yet relieved at the same time that he was chosen, nonetheless he was grateful for the opportunity. It seems as though the Eastern house seen the boy as useful in one way or another throughout his time here.
Before parting ways, Ser Gilbert Tervellan left the group with some choice words being "What can you do for Grayle?" Surely something that Zen would keep in the back of his mind throughout his time here. He remembered that there was tension going on between Alexandria and Grayle currently, he would surely have to be ready in the near future. The group was also instructed to report to the eastern barracks to meet with the other members, he took a look around and saw whom were left and it was a rather impressive group nonetheless. The guy that had been Nathaniel, some freakishly huge guy, as well as Liese Victoire who was in Zen's opinion the crème of the crop, even the dancer boy had made the cut whom despite what others thought, maneuvered really well in combat.
And then there was Zen...definitely the weakest link, even so making the knights was the highlight of his life right now and nothing was going to spoil his mood. As he began to make his way over to the barracks he felt a hand from his shoulder. Zenshin was in disbelief, still in shock from making the cut he had forgot that Prince Rosseweine would be captain of this group of individuals. He was definitely much nicer than the other nobles, finding positivity in the Valefor boys shortcomings, praising him on his courage for not giving up. Surely enough this boosted the boys head to be receiving such words from a person of his status and ancestry. Prince Rosseweine even pointed out whom his foe was from the spar, motivating the boy to sharpen his skills in preparation for the tournament before walking off.
"T-Thank you your highnesslord-c-captain! I won't let you down!" he said saluting before following up with a bow. His face flushed red, knowing that he had completely butchered his first impression but he pulled himself up and puffed out his chest as he made his way towards the barracks. Nervous yet also rather eager to speak with his other squadmates.
There was a spotlight surely on Zen that morning, an unpleasant one at that. As he made his way towards the castle he could feel the scorn of the other knights as they looked upon him. The scoffing and snickering, some even questioning why did he even bother showing back up after the pitiful show he put on. Though the treatment he received from the commoners stung much worse as they seemed to look right through him as though he was nothing, continuing on with their day as if he didn't exist.
His 'spar' if you want to even call it that, was a series of unfortunate events beginning with the use of magic being banned which Zen considered his biggest strength, the element of surprise, and his ace in the hole. He had banked everything on his unique talent in order to get himself into the Knights of Grayle, what a disaster it turned out to be. This was his first time wielding a sword and it showed from his stance to his demeanor with the blade in his hand. His opponent was a noble who decided make fun out of the match and display how big the gap in skill was for all to see. Taunting the kid from Valefor as he sidestep and parry all of his attacks before sweeping the boy off his feet in a single motion, sending the brown haired boy barreling into the dirt and leaving a nice parting gift on Zen's cheek as he claimed checkmate. To add insult to injury, once the match was over the noble kid extended his arm towards Zenshin, acting as though he was going to assist in helping him off the floor before retracting his hand and scoffing in his face.
"Worthless commoner"
Thoughts flooded the boys head the more he pondered on the subject as he shuffled his feet over the bridge, his head slinked to the height of his shoulders as he stared at the gravel road. Perhaps coming here was a big mistake? He way in over his head, just look at who he had to compete with! The first person that came to the boys mind was Liese Victoire, just the thought of what might have happened if he had to go up against that guy in the spar sent a chill down the boys spine. Lets just be happy that we made it out with nicely connected bones. Besides they'd never put someone like me against someone like him right. The boy said letting out a deep exhale as he brushed off the thought, the knights of Grayle had a status to uphold. They wouldn't knowingly send a commoner boy let alone a foreigner to his own demise.
As Zenshin arrived to the area where all the other candidates had been waiting, the feeling of disdain seemed to only magnify. Fearful of the watchful eyes that were upon him Zen threw on the hood of his cloak sheepishly as he pushed his way through the large amount of teens amassed at the castle thought this proved more difficult then he had thought. Many people were eager to get a front row seat or at least as close to the front as possible. Zen simply wished to end up in a area where people wouldn't notice him quite as easily, if that was the front then so be it. Quickly Zen begin to push his way through to the front, finding a bit of early success and breaking through the outer layer.

Common screw-up Zenshin is a very self-conscious child who tends to be worried about others opinions and how they view the boy. In term it tends to have a negative effect on the boy as he tends to freeze up or completely botch things when performing tasks or magic with others around especially people he is unfamiliar with. Words sway him easily, compliments and reassurance often empowering the boy with hope and courage to take the leap of faith. While on the other hand insults or scolding him can have the opposite effect, inducing anxiety and thoughts of self doubt.
Gentle Soul Zenshin possesses a kind soul treating anyone and everyone with kindness and respect even when they are rude to him. When it comes to those in need he is very willing to go extreme lengths to assist them even when he gains nothing as the personal satisfaction of knowing he made a difference gives him purpose. This deep level of empathy he has for other people has derived from his own trials and tribulations growing up. Deep down he wishes that he would receive the same treatment
Emotionally driven Often times Zen tends to think more with his heart instead of his mean, impulsively taking on tasks or starting things he should have put more thought into as he makes decisions based on how he feels on the situation. Just as often this can get him into some troublesome situations that have him in over his head. Some might call him very flighty at times, particularly when his heart is swayed in a direction he is quick to follow his emotions.

Character Conceptualization
The Ferros family came to settle in Valefor not too long after the war. With their medical contributions and alchemical knowledge, the Ferros family quickly established themselves as a respected and known family in Valefor as well as having small influence within other nations.
Zenshin is the first born of the current Ferros family head Lurantus Ferros and his wife Miriam Ferros, Zenshin is the eldest of 4 kids, 3 boys and 1 girl. From an early age he took part in the same rigorous training and studying that his forefathers has took apart of at an early age but he seemed to always fall short in ability, failing to show alchemical talent worthy of taking notice. His father was rather wary early on in entrusting the boy with the guiding the family in the right path.
When his brother Lionel was of age to partake in studies he showed immediate promise and results, garnering the favor of their father as he began to focus more on his alchemical prodigy. Lionel quickly picked up on the topics that were being taught to him and an advanced understanding at a young age. It wasn’t long before he caught up to his brother whom had 4 years of age on him.
As time went on Lionel’s shadow quickly casted over Zenshin as his younger brother became the talk of the town managing to catch up and surpass Zenshin in his studies. The gap between the two only seemed to grow from there, even worse as the more Zenshin fell short the more he felt disconnected. Word would begin to spread of the Ferros family prodigy. Even his other 2 younger siblings showed more promise than their eldest brother further tanking Zen’s confidence. Along with his relationships went his confidence as well as he developed social anxiety from the constant comparison. This was also roughly around the time where he would begin to find solace within the legend of Grayle, the boy finding amazement within the courage that Grayle possessed to defy the odds. Perhaps he could maybe follow in his footsteps. It was true the stakes were different, while Grayle was destined to be the white knight who would save the world. Zenshin was tasked with being a competent family head and even then he couldn’t do that. Even so a boy could dream.
Around the age of 11, Zenshin would begin spending his free time practicing his magic within the forest outside of his house. He would train extensively as he channeled his strong emotions into his magic, despite not being gifted with alchemical or medical talent the boy did possess control over the element of snow which was a feat in itself. Even so this did not sway his father in any way as their values did not align.
The more Zenshin would train and cultivate his magic the more he would find himself fantasizing about joining the knight order founded by Grayle and making a name for himself. No longer would he be in his brother Lionel’s shadow. No longer the black sheep of the family but a talented child who created his own path. More importantly he’d reclaim the admiration of his father once again.
Alas once he reached a point in his magic he deemed competent he left without a trace. Casting away what seemed like shackles and following his dream on a whim, Zenshin was never more sure about something in his young life.
