I didn't read the part where Jack also had a moment of not remembering the professor's name until after I had typed my own post. Should they run into one another and bond over not remembering the professor's name?
‘Heeeey, don’t I know her?’ Stiles peered over at the woman with the other woman that all the nondescript people were flocking towards. The question was directed at the Budew standing on his shoulder, who looked over at him curiously.

‘Buuud-dew?’ Bud the Budew asked, tilting his head.

‘Oh, yeah. That’s right. I do know who she is. She’s the Gym Leader of Honnington! We challenged her!’ Stiles suddenly realized, his eyes widening in realization. He smiled as he turned to look at Bud. ‘We gave her a run for her money, right?’

‘Buuuuud…’ Bud shook his head with a resignful smile. What had actually happened was that Stiles had rushed in with a Level 2 Budew and challenged the Gym and promptly gotten his unprepared ass whooped.

‘Wait. No, that’s not it,’ Stiles suddenly looked forward, his expression getting mildly more serious, and Budew looked on curiously, wondering if Stiles had remembered what actually happened or not.

‘That didn’t happen. That didn’t happen, because I am not Stiles,’ he stated… and then dramatically lifted a hand to his chest, and then spoke again. ‘That didn’t happen, for I, am Victor Gallagher, and I have not seen this woman in my life!’ he stated, faking a posh accent to the best of his nonexistent ability. Combine that with that he was still wearing his usual street-wear, plus a fancy red cape that didn’t match the rest of his clothes at all.

‘Budeeew~’ Yeah, no, Bud’s just smiling through the resignation now.

‘Come, my companion! We have a professor to greet and, uh, academic! ... stuff, to, uh, discuss… at once!’

So he claimed, and started wandering… he stopped by the person holding the sign. He stared at it. ‘… What was the professor’s name, again?’

(he’d eventually find his way there)

The other two were on-board with the idea of mining somewhere with both items and Pokémon. They headed out, got to climb with the equipment, and then wander past other miners to the icy wall that they’d marked as their own for the time being. With that, they were ready. Basil stood with one pickaxe, Earl had managed to struggle to bring one… and then Anise, Mienfoo, Meditite, Froakie and Riolu each held one each, with no problems at all. … Froakie with some struggle, perhaps.

‘Alright, everyone! Let’s go!’ Anise called, and her team went to work, and between them her team was outpacing them substantially. Basil found that the task was pretty easy. The ice was easy to dig into, and they were making enough progress in a short enough time to see something within the ice already. It was decently difficult to see into the ice where it was recently disturbed, so what was in the ice was hard to see until it was right in front of them.

There was already a small pile of items growing in front of Anise’s group. Looked like they’d found… a Hard Stone, Damp Rock, Lagging Tail, Icy Rock, King’s Rock, and a Water Stone. All items.

‘Okay… let’s see… slowly…’ Earl lifted his pickaxe, and he had his two Budews cheering for him. Meanwhile, Cleffa was happily waving her fingers… and just as Earl was about to swing, Cleffa suddenly launched into the ice as a spinning ball! Metronome had become Steamroller!

Earl staggered back, as cracks formed all over the ice, and then a large section of it crashed into a million pieces as Cleffa bounced back. A shadow within the destroyed ice started to move…

‘Careful! Wild Pokémon that come out of the ice are aggressive…!’ called a nearby miner. Earl took another step back and reached for Elgyem’s Pokéball, preparing to deal with whatever Cleffa might have unleashed, when the dark shadow of the Pokémon jumped towards him…!

Meanwhile, regardless of if he was paying attention to what was going on with his companions, Basil got closer and closer to being able to un-ice his first find. And… it was a Pokémon. He had the fortune of seeing what it was before the ice cracked, just on the other side. It was a fish. An ancient fish, frozen in ice.

What does Basil do? He could free it from the ice, or he could try to find something else, or he could be done here entirely. What would he do?

@Remram

Earl frowned at Basil’s answer, looking like he was taking a moment to consider.

‘… Metrics of my accomplishment as a trainer. Having more of them would make Marowak respect me more… is that what you’re saying?’ Earl asked. ‘I suppose it is worth a shot,’ he concluded.

Then they headed off to the Frozen Cave.

‘Mining…’ Anise pondered, looking over. ‘It feels like that would be good for arm-strength. Yes, let’s do it!’ she sounded modestly excited for it.

‘…’ Earl meanwhile looked at the mining people and didn’t look entirely as enthusiastic. Regardless, he followed along.

They had to climb a couple ladders to get up to the largest building, where folks were gathered around, some socializing and having a good drink, otherwise just hanging around taking a break, or showing off what they most recently found.

Regardless, behind the desk was a large amount of pickaxes, tools, and other things needed for mining. Walking up to the counter, they could find the man they needed to speak to.

‘Ey, so you lot want to mine?’ A large miner that looked in-charge asked them. ‘We’ve got the equipment you’re gonna need right here. All these pickaxes, drills and saws… but we’re not letting young ones like yourselves use the heavy equipment. Fighting- or Fire-type Pokémon also help. There’s lots of goodies hidden in the ice. Anything you find is yours to keep, or you can sell it to us here in the Miner’s Shop. If you find a Pokémon, freeing it will cause it to come to life! Watch out, they’re usually pretty aggressive. Use the maps to figure out where you can dig. So, how about it? Want to have a taste of ice mining?’

‘… I’m sorry, but as a herbalist I don’t think I am going to benefit from this…’ Earl muttered.

‘Herbalist, eh? That reminds me, something we find these really, really old plants in the ice…’

‘…’ Earl looked like he became around 20% more awake. ‘You wouldn’t happen to document what you’ve unearthed… would you?’

‘What kinda amateurs do you take us for!?’ the miner asked, leaning down and grabbing a couple full binders from behind the desk, just to show them off. Earl immediately looked like he wanted to read them, and was definitely going to negotiate later.

‘Fighting-types,’ Anise said, sounding pretty pleased with the fact one of the types said to be suited for this happened to be her speciality. She was spontaneously surrounded by her entire squad, minus Zigzagoon, all ready to grab pickaxes and get started.

With that, they could find on the map where to go in order to start mining. They could get the necessary equipment, etc. Anise was definitely Some places were booked by other parties, some places were said to have more Pokémon, some places were said to have more items, and some were a bit of both. What were they after? Would they try mining something?

Aw. The professor actually feeling for Hazel is kinda sweet.

The professor absolutely not feeling for Tilly is... Hah.
"Uh, you have quite the... verbose application, though I'm not sure why you decided to put down a... soliloquy in the application? Or is that a monologue. Erm, regardless, you have a pretty good academic background, though the Professor did warn me on academics versus practical. I know you're quite interested in the Grand Eiddan Festival and so much more, but you should also be prepared to work in the field as well! Beyond that, I appreciate the enthusiasm and look forward to you working alongside us Victor! Word of advice though, please tone down the... 'eloquence' when around the Professor; might make her a bit cranky... Otherwise, application accepted!

XD

I just felt like writing that. Thank you for the approval!

XD ... Well, then. He'll absolutely hope this is true, hahahaha.

That is an exceedingly cute picture.
Okay, this is around what I was imagining.

Question. He kinda had to have a Pokémon for his story to make sense, he can't challenge someone if he doesn't have a Pokémon of his own. That said, he absolutely would want to accept the Pokémon from the professor. Could he leave his Budew somewhere? I was contemplating if he'd release him, but, like, in the story they'd been together for a while, and I don't think he'd do that. I could totally see it coming down to him showing up being like "pokémon?" and the professor replying "wtf you already have one, gtfo" and him being like "D:" but still getting the job, hah.

Speaking of the job. I am interested to know if this is, at all, an acceptable way of getting it, or if I should rethink it. I am open to suggestions, if so, heh.
