Hm... I should have read the IC before making a character. I seem to have made a little blunder; my character was written as a native to the Endless Halls. Is that okay, or should I change it up a bit?
No reason swamps and oceans can't exist in the Halls. Change it to suit your characters needs!
Where once dark, now a pale streak of light cascades into the room. Far below this cave you can here the melodic reverberations of what may be a machine or a slumbering giant. You step lightly into the chamber, crunching soft moss beneath your feet. The cave is damp and mired in shadows, but a warmth radiates from all around. You feel safe and as you gain your bearings you notice others entering the subterranean glen in flashes of ethereal light. You have purpose here-that much is clear. Where you have come from is not immediately apparent, your mind clouded with uncertainty. But you feel a sense of reassurance that your path will manifest itself, if only by taking that first step. Tread lightly.
Amheurst, The Broken Knight A young knight leans against a boulder, his brow heavy with sorrow. The knights armor is sparse, a verdigris marred spaulder, a single gauntlet on his sword arm and old rusty greaves. In his arms he cradles a broken longsword, broken clean off about half-way down the blade. It may have once been a fine weapon indeed.
Amheursts' father was Sir Bran, Lord of Guilliam Keep.
Bosham Gar, Troubador & Actor A thin haired aging man cloaked in shaggy clothes paces in agitation. He clutches a mask with 3 faces. It appears to be crafted from a precious metal. The three faces reflect joy, anger and insanity.
Pelinora, Priestess of Kant A very beautiful woman with a stern expression on her face crouches over a small circle of pebbles. She is incanting a spell and gesturing with her hands. She is cloaked in the deep green robes of the God Kant, The Weary Watcher. Her eyes grow wide as a fire erupts from her palms, creating a small blue-flamed fire. She sits down and begins warming her hands over the eldritch fire.

Introduction
I'm giving this RP the 18+ treatment for mature themes, tone and language.
This Roleplay is a modified version of my original NRP, HexHalls of the Endless Sphere that never made it past the planning stage.
Welcome...
...this is a freeform RP where you can develop a character set in a dark fantasy world, shape the world around you and create artifacts and lore. Players of all writing skill levels are welcome.
This is a fantasy roleplay set in a dark subterranean world called the Endless Halls, so no modern/fandom or anime characters please. Some minor machinery might exist (think Dwarven or gnomish tech) but when in doubt just ask in the OOC.
All new characters begin in the Main Chamber-an enormous cavern with thousands of doors, passages, halls, portals and stairs leading to and from it. It is not immediately apparent how your character came to be in the cavern.
Your purpose in the Endless Halls is to discover who your character is and develop a personality while building a world with the other players. Think of it like a chance to flex your writing muscles and hone your craft. Interact with other characters and go on a journey or simply reflect on your characters thoughts and former actions.
The surface world exists-however the roleplay takes place in the Endless Halls and that is where the action occurs.
The Endless Halls are infinite. Feel free to invent chambers and caverns to explore. Entire cities might exist beneath the earth-whatever you can imagine.
Feel free to invent quests/goals or story arcs. You can invite other characters/players to join you or tell your own characters story. I will introduce characters as I see fit to give some semblance of a plot.
It is highly recommended that you use the soundtrack. Please add any music you see fit to the Rp.
The tone is not exceptionally dark. There are lighter places in the Void, but also enemies to defeat and traps to be avoided.
As GM, I will update the world information, accept/deny characters and try and keep some order in the narrative. I will also be running any NPCs that exist in the Endless Halls.
This list updated at my discretion and this thread is a continuous WIP.
Characters
Rules for Character Creation:
1. You may create as many characters as you wish but all have to be accepted by me by posting them in the OOC first. 2. You may only have one Active character at a time. 3. I will not tolerate auto-hitting. When in doubt, ask your fellow roleplayers in the OOC if something is cool. This includes special powers and magic. 4. Use the character sheet provided. 5. You may use any fantasy race as long as it is not cookie-cut from an existing universe. I.e. no Elronds or Drizzts please. These archetypes are cool, but try and give them some originality-speaking of which, I prefer homebrewed races. Mushroom people anyone?
How to Submit Characters:
To start roleplaying, submit a character sheet in the OOC thread. Once you receive a like from me you may post in the Character Tab and start rping in the IC section. Also, if you plan on using an image for your character appearance, be sure to write that appearance as well-this is an RP to develop and hone your writing skills after all. I also prefer non-anime images-not a requirement, just a preference. Other than that feel free to develop your character as much or little as you wish before you start roleplaying. Be sure to update your character sheet as necessary so were all on the same track. Have fun!
Pick and Play Characters:
A list of archetype characters to grab and start roleplaying. Will attempt to update frequently. Ask permission in the OOC before you start RPing the provided characters.
Artifacts
This section especially is a WIP
You can create and use magical artifacts and items of power. But there are a few guidelines for doing so:
Any given character may have in his/her possession one artifact or item at a time.
Artifacts have two properties, no more or less. The first property is called the Dominant Power and is defined by the player who created the object. The second property is called the Latent Power and must be created by another player within a certain period of time of initial creation. If a Latent power is not invented/discovered by another player/character, the artifact disappears from the Halls.
You must submit an Artifact Sheet for approval in the OOC before introducing it in-game.
Roleplaying
The World
Maps. Lore. Legends. Gods. Etc. WIP
You may write as little or much as you wish. Add any sections to your CS you feel necessary and remember to keep them dynamic by adding to your sheet as the roleplay progresses. Name: Race: Appearance: Include clothing, apparent age, disposition etc. Inventory:
Special Abilities: ex. Darkvision John Doe is capable of seeing in the dark as if it were full day. Lockpicking Given enough time, Jane Doe can pick a lock unless it has a magical ward upon it.
Personality: May develop over the course of the RP, but have a clear sense of where your character is heading. History: Other:
Name: Appearance: Alignment: Is your artifact inherently evil? Or good? Neutral? History: Dominant Power: Latent Power: To be created by another player.
Name: The Sword of Dis Appearance: This longsword bears the ancient runic symbols of Discord, Chaos and Disunity. It is a savage looking weapon, with dark stains that could only be centuries of blood. The pommel and crossguard are marred from use and the blade itself appears to have marks in it, as if it was struck by blunt objects. History: The Sword of Dis is a much hated and reviled weapon. Dozens of assassinations, plots, rebellions and insurrections have been started with this very weapon. It is a tool of chaos and many have tried to destroy it only to fail. Dominant Power: The wielder of the Sword of Dis feels immediately stronger and skillful the moment the hold it in two hands-this is no false sense of empowerment. The wielder can fight longer and harder than before, but there is a price. The longer the sword is used, the more discontent the wielder will feel; with the powers that be, themselves or anything. The target of this aggression is random and unique to each new victim. Latent Power: To be created by another player.
The familiar sound of combat, shouts and fire, and..
Oh...gods...the pain...!
Amheurst cried out as the Mindskitter withdrew its tendrils. Thoughts & memories flashed in distant echoes of agony. This was a pain that rendered his half plate armor useless and forced Amheurst to drop his broken blade. He fell to his knees clutching his ears in pain and then all went dark as he slumped over unconscious.
Memories flooded his mind that were not his. Oceans and willow'o whisps, lost mothers and a hunger that was insatiable. His eyes flashed open and he sat up next to the girl named... Gish.
How do I know her name? Was it that...thing?
The man creature with the lantern was giving comfort to the poor girl. A strange sight in the gloomy cavern. The crowd around the bonfire had dispersed in the ruckus, each shadowy figure fleeing to...wherever. The halls were endless after all.
"What happened? Where's the leech thing?"
"It attacked me," said Amheurst. "I think it was...feeding on my memories. Is it gone?"
Amheurst recovered his broken blade and slowly staggered to his feet.
Added this to my CS to prevent confusion on how the Mindskitter feeds. Really liked the idea @Gentlemanvaultboy and @rechonq came up with about the physical attachment, so I just went along with it, although I added that it would be able to mental sync from farther away.
This is super helpful GodOfWar, thanks for clarifying your characters powers. If anyone would like to add a Special Abilities section to their character sheets go ahead..I think it will help in the long run. Remember your CS's are dynamic-add info as you go along to help clarify your characters personality, history and abilities.
Oh wow, okay. I hadn't really poked my head into the free section speaking prior, I'd been under the uninformed assumption that most of what I'd see'd be a little too basic and quick-fire for my tastes. This looks really interesting though, potentially. If you're going to shift the thread over I'll wait on that, then I'll make an application hopefully.
Great to have you. I'm at work at the moment but I think I can get the new thread started by Thursday? Don't need to wait if you want to post a character here in the OOC.
Quick question for everyone: Is it cool if I move this RP over to the Casual Section? I think it has outgrown the Free Section both in tone, depth and attitude. I would basically just transfer all of the game information into a new thread, copy and paste the story thus far and have Hank or someone close this thread. Only thing you guys would need to do is transfer your character sheets. Let me know how you guys feel about that. Probably won't happen for at least another 24-36 hours if everyone is OK with it. THanks!
Amheurst barely heard the girls query, engrossed as he was in his own thoughts. Besides, the warmth of the fire was so welcome after lingering in the cave for...
"How long have I been here...?
The questions were unending. But here, in the light of the fire surrounded by others-nameless though they be, Amheurst felt a new sensation. It was a tingling, at the back of his neck. He clenched his family's sword tighter still. The tingling sensation continued and the knight supposed he was simply exhausted.
"No...something is wrong here...
"We've suffered a bizarre fate, haven't we?" She asked the other dark figures at the edge of the firelight.
"Fate is shaped by the actions of our forebears. I am Amheurst, of House Guilliam," said the knight, turning to face the short, non-descript girl. Amheurst gave the girl a second look. Perhaps it was the distorting light of the fire, but Amheurst felt unsettled looking at the girl...
"I am a knight in the service...of..of.." Amheurst faltered. He could not remember whom he had been fighting for before arriving in the cavern. He rubbed his neck as it continued to tingle. Amheurst felt phantom tendrils drill into his neck. Where there should have been pain instead he found pleasure.
