I know you said you wanted a written description and character image, so I used my nonexistent art ability to try and draw something extremely basic for Dekund.

When you really think about it, Deku Scrubs are just plant guns with legs.

Dekund

"Please don't touch my ferns."

=APPEARANCE=
Standing at a measly 2'4 and weighing in at 24lbs, Dekund isn't the largest of his kind. Being a short and stubby creature with small legs and no arms, and a somewhat spherical body aside from his snout. Three long leaves began their growth above his mossy brow and yellow eyes, and curved over the top of his brown bark-like body, going halfway down his backside, serving as hair when he walks, and camouflage when he burrows. Growing on each side of his snout are small stretches of facial hair resembling colorful green fiddlehead ferns.

=BACKGROUND=
Dekund sprouted around sixteen years prior to current events, beside three other Deku Scrubs in the Lost Woods. An elderly business scrub had made his home in the area, and had essentially watched them grow like plants in a garden, watering and ensuring their view of sunlight was clear. As they grew into their individual personalities, the elder scrub began to teach the four the merchant's trade: Treating the four as brothers, and him a father figure. None of them tended to venture very far to sell their wares, more often than not interacting with the Kokiri tribe to peddle.

Aside from teaching them how to trade to profit and survive, the elder also passed down his assortment of skills he'd gained over the course of his time traveling the world to his children: Though decided only one skill would be passed to each, as he deemed said talent to befit their nature. In the case of Dekund, he was a curious and wandering sort, the Elder could tell. And whenever minor trouble arose in the woods, he was the first to step forward to defend his home. To this end, the skill passed down to Dekund was the elder's knowledge on marksmanship. What skills he taught to Dekund's brothers, the little sprout had no idea: But he had learned to shoot deku nuts with exceptional accuracy over the course of the elder's training, and formed a strong bond with his father-figure.

This was the life the five scrubs lived, up until a year ago. The world changed; One would say for the worse, though honestly the five hadn't noticed it early on. The four scrub brothers were getting older, and the merchant's adventure was calling them: One took off on his journey, then another. Then a third. None of them had noticed something that Dekund, the only one remaining with the elder, saw: The elder's age was getting to him. Dekund's compassion for his father-figure caused him to stay in the Lost Woods, protecting his home and caring for his father, who's condition began to worsen by the day until the point he had met his old age, and rooted into the ground. His bulb beginning to wilt.

The concept wasn't unknown to Dekund, he was raised to be prepared for it; But he still had a difficult time believing it. Leaving some flowers near the rooted body of his father, Dekund had nothing to stay for anymore. It was his time to go out into the world; He was quite behind his brothers, but that didn't bother him much. He was more worried that they never came back after an entire year; But father did always say the world was vast. Who knew how long it'd take to traverse it?

The little scrub was about to find out that the world was a much more cruel place than his father ever remembered. And he'd find out in the worst way possible: First-hand.
