It was always a pain to try and get anything out of the other medicine cats, Gullbreeze especially. The she-cat just a general disinterest in conversation, but it always seemed especially bad around Embersky himself. He knew the contempt that some of the other clans had for himself and his family, but he usually just let the dark glares and bitter comments slide off his back. Besides, Whitestar and FireClan were Dawnstar's strongest allies at present. Though that didn't mean the rest of the Clan had the same opinions. He hoped that Dawnstar had some plan to counteract the dissent that would come from trying to merge BreezeClan and FireClan together.

He kept an eye on Albatrosspaw. He knew that his apprentice didn't like the Gatherings, and he didn't want the young tom to feel bothered by the prickliness of the other cats present. He seemed to be looking around for someone in particular as they got settled though. Embersky filed that information away in the back of his mind for later, if Albatrosspaw had made friends with one of the apprentices in another clan, there might be a way to gather information for Dawnstar.

At the clipped response from Gullbreeze, Adderpaw glanced upwards towards her mentor with a similar frown on her face. Though she met her gaze with Albatrosspaw a short moment later and it looked faintly apologetic.

It was a struggle for Embersky not to let his whiskers twitch in amusement. An apprentice apologizing, even nonverbally, for the actions of her mentor. The small she-cat was the newest apprentice of the bunch and he could tell that she didn't have the same understanding of her mentors disposition around the other medicine cats. "That's good to hear." He kept his response short to avoid further conversation with the FireClan cat.

His ears swiveled backwards, followed shortly by his head, as Sagecloud and Eaglepaw padded up quickly. The younger tom briefly bumped shoulders with Albatrosspaw and sent a faint grin at the white and gray tom before settling down next to his mentor. How both of RainClan's medicine cats could always be in such a good mood he had no idea. Eaglepaw was like a miniature version of Sagecloud, in the best possible way he supposed.

He was about to wave off Sagecloud's apology before the yowl from Whitestar stopped him. He followed every cats gaze in the clearing as the chatter began to quiet down for brief moment to let the leader speak. The silence didn't last long though as Whitestar gave over the first spot in the Gathering to his mother.

"It's alright," he glanced down to meet Albatrosspaw's gaze, "The other clans are just afraid of the strength of our bond with FireClan, so they don't like Whitestar letting us go first." He also knew that Dawnstar was going to be revealing a part of her plan tonight, but he didn't want to reveal anything in front of the other medicine cats.

He turned his attention back to the ledge at the front of the clearing as the slender form of his mother stepped towards the front. He could see the narrowed gaze of Spiderstar from behind her and felt a brief flash of concern that the broad tom was preparing to lunge at Dawnstar the moment she said something he didn't like. Embersky quickly shook the thoughts free though as Dawnstar began to speak.

"Thank you, Whitestar," she dipped her head respectfully to the white tom. "BreezeClan has been doing well this past moon, we have two new apprentices here at the Gathering tonight, Lionpaw and Scorchpaw," she waited a moment for the faint calls of congratulations to fade away before continuing. "We've had no troubles around our borders, and while that would normally bring my announcements to a close I have something else to discuss."

Confused chatter began once again and Dawnstar waited until it died down before continuing, "BreezeClan is strong, as are all of our clans, so why is it that we continue to remain separate and risk our strength being reduced by petty squabbles across borders? Whitestar and I have been discussing the possibility of merging BreezeClan and FireClan into one." At this announcement the murmurs erupted into yowls of anger and resistance.

Spiderstar sprang to his paws from where he sat next to Coyotestar, pelt bristling, "You can't do this Dawnstar! StarClan would never allow it! The clans have always been separate for as long as we've been on this island."

Yowls from DarkClan agreed with their leader and bristling pelts began to rise in the crowd as narrowed gazes and barred teeth were sent in the direction of the BreezeClan cats.

The sight, and sound, of the at least slightly sloshed Hedgehog that was the second guardian of the cellar caused Zaris to chortle as Grant tried to remember a song he presumed Ellis had sung at some point, or lar least had a hand in crafting. He reached out a paw as the large cellar hog stumbled towards him, just he case he need to prevent Grant from falling flat on his snout. Thankfully he seemed to have a pretty good handle on his own feet. It took a careful ear for him to decipher what it was that Grant told him in between swigs from his mug, but Zaris could at least assume that there'd be hotroot for the Friar.

He couldn't help just chuckle again as Grant attempted to sober up, and it was a passing act for anyone else. Not so great for an otter who'd grown up in a rambunctious tribe and could tell the difference between the slurring of ale versus beer. He didn't want Grant to feel embarrassed in front of him though. No doubt he'd end up doing something stupid himself before his time at the Abbey came to a close. "Nothin' wrong with samplin' a bit of the drink for the feast," he told Grant he waited for the hotroot to be brought to him. "Just make sure there's enough for the rest of us yeah."

The cellar was certainly packed full and he tapped his nails on the table in front of him as he waited for Grant to return. He could hear the muttering in the backroom, but he wasn't in any particular hurry aside from making sure the Friar had what he needed to make sure everything was ready in time.

"Aye, I'd like to think I can heft a fair amount," picked up the crate with ease and gave a nod. "I'd say so. My Skipper'd say that any day is a proper one for celebration though." His father had been one of the most guilty when it came to starting a party for any and all reasons. Though it seemed that the Abbey had a fair number of celebrations themselves. "I'll let Friar Ruddy know that the hotroot supply is runnin low'. I'll be seein' ya Grant."

It was a quicker walk back up to the kitchens and he set the hotroot down by the jovial Friar and did as he told Grant he would. He could see the vermin had been put to work, as had Rigby, but it still made him uncomfortable knowing they were within the walls of Redwall.

"I'd best be headin' back to Brother Jethro," he told Ruddy, "Come back to us when you're released Rigby," he called out to the mouse in a more teasing tone than usual. The thought of the feast had put him in a better mood despite himself. He waved a paw at the Friar before turning and heading back out the way he came to return to the gatehouse.

It was a short jaunt across the courtyard back to the gatehouse with the dibbuns marching about. He had just pushed open the door when a dark, looming shadow caught his eye in the sky above. Fear spiked in his veins as his head snapped up to see a raptor soar over the Abbey walls and begin to circle the courtyard. There was no way that it was unseen, "Brother Jethro! Sound an alarm!" He called through the door before letting it swing shut and pulling his sling free.

"Sister, get inside!" He didn't want to panic the dibbuns and send them scattering across the courtyard, but he trusted their guardian to herd them to safety. He plucked several rocks from his pouch and set one into the sling. the raptor had yet to dive, but if it did he would be ready.

The crashing sound of waterfalls mingled with the sounds of chatter as the light of the full moon turned the water to liquid silver. It lit the crowd of cats that were gathered on the slightly damp stone hidden within trees and cliffs as everyone waited for the leaders to find their spots upon the ledge and begin the gathering in earnest. Embersky's ears swiveled around, listening to the conversations around him, as he made his slow, winding way through the crowd to where the rest of the medicine cats were seated with their apprentices. He glanced behind him for a moment to make sure that Albatrosspaw was keeping up alright. He had been crushed by the unexpected death of his father, but having one of his brothers as an apprentice made the sting a little less.

His mother and sister were making their own way through the crowd towards the ledge where Spiderstar and Whitestar were already waiting with their deputies sitting on a slightly lower ledge beneath them. Looked like they were just waiting on RainClan then. He felt a flash of pride knowing that it was his family that was in charge of BreezeClan, and that they would lead their clanmates to prosperity and greatness. He just had to make sure the rest of the clans saw that as fact. Which was easier said than done.

He dipped his head slightly to the Gullbreeze and Cloudwing as well as their apprentices as he settled down and tucked his tail over white paws. "Greetings. How are things in FireClan and DarkClan?" It hadn't been long since they'd met at the half-moon, but he felt it was only right to make sure that things were going well with his fellow medicine cats. He had also heard that there were some members of other clans that were beginning to raise concerns over the fact that his family alone led BreezeClan. He knew that Whitestar had a good relationship with his mother, but the others were somewhat nebulous to him.

"Greetings Embersky," Cloudwing dipped his head as well, his silver and white pelt turned pale by the moonlight. "Things are well in DarkClan. We have a number of new apprentices and kits that are growing quickly." There was a familiar fondness in the tom's voice as he spoke of his clan, but he still didn't give much away.

None of the clans were weak and based on what Embersky heard, and could see of the number of apprentices, were by no means struggling. That would make Dawnstar's plans that much more difficult. None of the other clans would be interested in uniting if they didn't have any additional trouble by being separate. "I'm glad to hear it. We've been lucky these past moons."

Cloudwing nodded in agreement before glancing past the other medicine cats to look towards the cleft in the cliffs that surrounded the gathering space. "Looks like RainClan has arrived."

He could just catch the bushy tail of Coyotestar followed by Stormstrike and his own apprentice. He kept an eye on the RainClan cats as they dispersed within the others and the volume rose once again as friends were greeted once again. He finally caught sight of Sagecloud and Eaglepaw making their way towards them. It was only a matter of time before the gathering started then.

Heat sink? Check. Scope? Check. Suppressor? Check. Everything else that might be needed for the upcoming mission? Maybe check.

It was a familiar, monotonous kind of work for Kaevius as he checked over his weapons and attachments to make sure that nothing had been left behind or misplaced when they arrived on the Intervention. So far it seemed that everything was put in the right place, so he clicked and locked all the needed attachments back onto his Viper and stowed it away in the gun locker where the rest of his weaponry was carefully placed.

He went to reach for the next when the door to the armory slid open and the loud bang of a crate hitting the ground caused his head to turn sharply to see who had come in. He expected one of the other members of the crew, obviously, but what he hadn’t necessarily expected was the Quarian wearing a pink containment suit.

His mandibles fluttered slightly as he looked from the crate to the Quarian and back again, “Drop something?” His tone was light and somewhat teasing as he met the glowing gaze of their Head of Security

“Might have. Don’t worry, it’s just inertial dampeners,” Roxy replied, pulling off the top and showing one of the squarish, oddly shaped objects off before stashing it away. “Could tie it to the tail of the ship and drag it behind us and it’d be fine.” Resealing the crate, the quarian glanced up at the alcove where the crate was supposed to go, pondering it for a moment before grabbing it again and hoisting it up with a slight grunt to put it away.

“Ah, well, you don’t need to prove that. Think the Captain would be a bit upset to find cargo hanging off the back.” He pulled his Vindicator from the locker next and started going through the same check as before; glancing up to watch the Quarian lift the crate with little trouble. Impressive. “Kaevius Mercarian by the way. Haven’t really exchanged names with anyone on the crew, but now seems as good a time to start as any.”

“Raela’Xanis vas Leyte,” the quarian announced, flexing her shoulders after lifting the heavy package. “Call me Roxy, easier to say. Nice to meet you!” She walked up to the turian infiltrator, taking a moment to glance over the turian’s impressive looking gun before offering her hand.

He reached out to shake the offered hand with a trademark Turian grin, “Pleasure’s all mine Roxy.” He hadn’t had much experience with Quarians aside from the ones that were on the Citadel for various reasons, pilgrimage mostly he figured, but Roxy was certainly different from those he’d seen. She was almost as tall as he was and that alone was enough to throw him for just a moment. “Ready to kick some Cerberus ass? Should be getting where we’re going before too long.” He returned his attention to his gun for a moment to check the heat sink and place it back where it belonged.

“Can’t get there soon enough,” she responded enthusiastically, immediately taking a liking to the infiltrator. “I haven’t been in a good scrap since the War, perfect chance to shake some of the dust off.” Roxy patted the holster on her right hip, a perfect match for the one on the other, both holding her dual Carnifexes. “And against Cerberus no less, can’t think of a more deserving bunch for an ass-kicking than them.”

“I hear ya. Thought about going back to C-Sec after the war but the thought of slogging through all the red tape again,” he shook his head, “Not worth the effort.” The Carnifexes were nice looking guns, he’d thought about getting himself one, but stuck with the Predator mostly. Not like he was really getting up close and personal anyway. He stretched out his shoulders and chuckled lightly at the Quarian, “Couldn’t agree more. Haven’t had very many encounters with them, but I’ve heard enough to know they’re getting what’s coming to them.” With luck it wouldn’t be too much trouble, but then again, when had they ever been lucky.

“Good point,” Roxy said, smiling slightly beneath her mask. Yeah, she could get along with this one.

“We’re just about planet side,” came the sudden and slightly harried voice of the commander over the comm system. “Get to the comms room for a briefing.”

“You weren’t kidding, we did get there soon.”

There were really only four of them going planet side? He had no idea what kind of numbers they’d be dealing with, but that didn’t seem like enough. There was himself and Roxy, of course, a bearded man who looked like he’d seen hell, and…oh yes. For someone who could read Turian expressions there was a smug look in Kaevius’ eye as he stared at Rigel. He knew the medic was on the ship but he hadn’t seen hide nor hair of him. Now the question was how long he’d be able to stop himself from spilling one of the many secrets he’d gathered over the years working C-Sec.

There’d be time for pestering the medical officer later though. For now he listened to the brief given by the Captain. She had a rough and blunt kind of attitude that reminded him of his old CO, minus the superiority complex, and that was something he could get behind. Find information and destroy the base. Easy enough. Or it should’ve been. He turned his head up to the announcement on the intercom and then looked towards Roxy with an expression that told her it’s about what he expected. Nothing could ever be easy could it.

“Well if that’s not a blast from the past,” Roxy commented with a chuckle. “First mission and we’re dealing with mercs caught in the crossfire.” She prepped her weapons, twirling each Carnifex with the seasoned hand of an expert before holstering them again. She hadn’t brushed up on the merc factions that became active after the war to guess who this was, though it probably wasn’t the Big Three; the pirate queen kept her old gang under tight control, they wouldn’t be this far from Terminus for something like this.

Roxy’s senses suddenly heightened at a familiar sound; automatic fire raking across the metal hull of the shuttle. It dawned on her properly that this was the first time she’d been in a combat situation since that desperate fight on Earth that left her bedridden for months, and for a moment her worry got the better of her. Could she handle this, after everything that happened? Was she ready to jump back into the fire again? Her hand tensed around the familiar grip of her weapon, biotic energy wreathing between each finger.

Damn right she was ready.

“Sounds like we’re going in hot, probably catching Cerberus evacuating.” Roxy drew her guns with a flourish, glancing towards Kaevius prepping his own weapon. “Got my six?”

Kaevius pulled his Vindicator free, not really the time for posting up with a sniper unfortunately, and looked towards Roxy as she drew her guns. “Probably,” he grinned slightly, “We’ll see how it goes.”

“Works for me!”

The shuttle door flung open as the shuttle landed, scattered fire peppering the outside as Roxy suddenly drove forward faster than expected, returning fire with her dual pistols as she dashed to cover. A few heavy shots landed home, catching the retreating Cerberus goons unaware and forcing them to take cover as well. Good to be back, Roxy thought proudly as she watched them go down.

If there was one thing he hated it was cover based fighting. The Cerberus goons had posted up just as they had on the opposite side of the field by the base, and they weren’t moving. Kaevius followed Roxy out with a quick volley of shots to keep their heads down before ducking into cover himself. He moved to fire a few shots, but puffed out an annoyed breath as he immediately had to duck back down as the soldiers peppered the opposite side of his cover.

He waited for a moment of quiet and leaned around the side where one of the soldiers was slightly visible and grinned. With a flick of his wrist and a quick flash of light the Cerberus soldier’s armor burned with red hot plasma and the additional burst of fire sent him screaming and writhing to the ground. It was enough for Kaevius to vault his cover and duck behind where said soldier had been. If he could get around to flank then it would be easy enough to pick them off, but that was easier said than done.

A few more quick triple shots from his Vindicator left at least a few of their enemies questioning whether or not to stick their heads up again, and a few more not able to do so any longer. He huffed out another annoyed breath before glancing over at where Roxy was. “How many have you got?” He called out to her as he shot another soldier through his visor and the man dropped dead to the ground.

“At least three confirmed!” Roxy called back, not even flinching as sparks from a shot grazing across the metal railing across her visor. Catching sight of some Cerberus soldiers approaching with heavier weapons, she performed a biotic dash towards a pile of equipment and hook kicked a heavy fuel barrel in their direction, putting them on the backfoot as they tried to dodge it.. “Four!” she shouted as one soldier went down clutching at his chest as a shot landed home.

“I’ve got at least five!” He called back to her as another soldier dropped to a second incinerate. It really was one of the worst ways to die, but they made the mistake of wearing heavy armor so too bad for them. He watched as the barrel went flying through the air and looked back at the Quarian in faint surprise. Maybe he should’ve read the dossiers on everyone else in the crew. There were way too many soldiers here for this base to be anything but important. Now they just had to figure out what they were hiding.

A wayward shot from one of the Cerberus soldiers hit far too close to his head for his liking. He ducked further down behind the cover before doing a quick survey of the area. There wasn’t a clear shot to get around behind them. Not while he was visible anyway. A quick tap to his omni-tool shut off his shield regen, not that he’d taken any hits, and the comfortable feeling of his tactical cloak slipped around him. Now this was more like it. He ducked around to the side and took a run towards a stack of crates closer to the rear of the area. If he could get up on those, he’d have the perfect sniper perch. It was just a matter of getting there.

Roxy had more pressing matters to deal with as another side door opened up and something big charged out. At first she thought it was a Krogan, but on second glance she recognized the familiar look of a Hahne-Kedar hull; it was a mechanical infantry unit, a staple of Cerberus armies before the Reapers and after. Roxy expected to see a couple FENRIRs and LOKIs, but this looked like a VALI, one of the newer generation mech infantries built around shock tactics. More importantly, it was coming right at her like a rachni with a bad attitude.

Rolling out of the way in the nick of time, the VALI demolished her cover as it smashed through, lifting its heavy scattergun to make short work of her. Blasting away at the mech’s arm until the heatsink popped, the heavy gun limped to one side before firing off, turning the floor next to Roxy into scrap metal.

“Annihilating target…” the mech snarled, wrenching its arm back to fire again.

“Like fuck you are, kiyet!

Drawing her hand back swimming in blue biotic light, Roxy flung herself forward and slammed her fist into the machine’s chest, the impact shattering the armored carapace and launching it into the wall with a massive crash. The machine let out a garbled mess of syllables as it slumped to the ground, its neck bent out of shape and the circular red lights flickering.

“Even!” Roxy called out as she jumped back into cover, recovering her pistols and reloading as the Cerberus soldiers regrouped. Good to be back, she thought to herself as weapons fire bracketed her position.
Both Stormheart and Duskwing are asleep so until something happens for them to react to I’m just gonna wait

The Eevee adventuring team was a go! Sora's tail started to wag, just the smallest amount, as Lumi whispered back to him. Exploring some dark, spooky cave, keeping to the shadows, and maybe seeing some crazy cool stones with his sister. What could be better? They just had to make sure that no one else heard about it, there was no way that Sable would allow it, and Cane would just go blabbing about it to everyone in the house. No, this had to be a secret just for the two of them.

He nodded subtly in agreement with his sister, "And we're so much smaller than the team that the crazy Pokémon in there probably won't even see us." This was gonna be so cool!

As Sable turned back towards them he met Lumi's eyes and saw the warning in them. No way he would spill what they were planning, "It's a secret" he told her; meeting his sister's eyes and then looking at Cane hoping she fell for the bluff that they were talking about a way to cheer up Cane. If they found something cool in the cave it also wouldn't be a lie. Hopefully.

They'd picked a night when their dad had work early the next morning, so he would go to bed early and leave them with free reign to escape out the windows in their room to meet up at the front of the house. Hopefully they would be there and back before anyone noticed they were gone. Sora could only imagine the trouble that they would get into if Sable saw them. Still his excitement at doing something so daring overrode the voice in his head that screamed this was a bad idea.

He waited until Cane and Storm had both settled down into their nests and their breathing evened out before he stood carefully and crept over to the window. He had unlocked it earlier in the day to avoid the noise. He took a deep, quiet breath and...

"What're you doing Sora?" Cane's faux whisper called out to him.

Dammit He pulled his paws off the windowsill and turned back to face his brother who was staring at him from his nest. "Um, I was just gonna go out for a nighttime walk, less crowded you know."

"Oh! Can I come?" The attempt at a whisper died and Sora flinched at the loudness of Cane's voice; looking over quickly to see Storm lift his head with blurry eyes and an annoyed expression.

This was not going as he had hoped. Why did Cane have to be such a light sleeper? He sighed, Lumi was going to kill him, but there was no way he would be able to get out of the house without Cane or Storm going and telling Sable he was sneaking out, or worse telling their dad. "Fine, fine you can come, but you have to promise to be quiet, quieter than you've ever been, and listen to everything that I say without questioning me ok."

Cane nodded vigorously and made a show of snapping his mouth shut.

He looked over at Storm to see his brother still watching him through narrowed eyes. "If you're planning on doing something stupid, don't."

Sora rolled his eyes in response, "Well if you want to stop us from doing something stupid you should just come along too." He knew Storm would go and wake up Sable and he was desperate to keep that from happening. He watched Storm grumble a bit before pushing himself to his feet and walking over to join them. He was honestly surprised it took so little convincing, but he wasn't going to complain. Lumi was probably already waiting for him and they needed to go, time was ticking.

He helped push Cane out and then followed after Storm. The three brothers crept around the side of the house towards the meeting point that he and Lumi had decided on to make their way to Ember Cave.

Sora's ears drooped even further, if that was possible, as Sable growled at them to not tell their father. He felt a flash of indignation at his older sister since she seemed to be focused more on himself and Lumi than the other two; especially since Cane was usually the blabbermouth. He didn't want to get in trouble though, or make their father upset, so he kept his mouth shut and just turned his head away from Sable as she began to lead them home.

Storm walked next to Sable, occasionally muttering something to their sister that Sora couldn't hear. Not that he really cared all that much. They were probably just talking about what exactly to tell dad, but he couldn't help but feel upset that they were being excluded. They weren't the worst when it came to not listening, and Storm always had his tail in a twist. Maybe that's why the two of them got along so well.

His younger brother was walking a step in front of him and Lumi, his fluffy tail now dragging the ground and his head down. He felt a pang of sadness for Cane. He'd been so excited to see the parade and meet the adventurers, and now his memory of them was one of stress and fear. Cane usually bounced back pretty quickly from disappointment, but this was something that meant a lot more than just a dinner he didn't like. Cane had been very young when they'd lost their mother, but he'd heard stories, and seeing the team like that must hurt more than he could imagine. He wanted to try and cheer him up but he didn't know how.

As Lumi's fur brushed up against his darker coat he swiveled an ear towards her, but kept his eyes on the others to make sure they weren't listening in. "I dunno. The Luxray said something about feral Pokémon, and that they were protecting the Sage Stones, but I don't really understand what that means." He hadn't thought much of it when the team left, it happened often enough, but this one was definitely weird. Pokémon didn't just go feral, it didn't make sense.

He paused for a moment to really make sure that the other three weren't paying attention before whispering to his sister, "Do you think we should go and check it out? I know they said to stay away, but we're a lot smaller so maybe we'd see something they missed." He was also just really wanted to know about what was in that cave. It had to be super strong and the prospect of that made his fur prickle with curiosity. They could sneak out, they'd done it before, and just come back before anyone noticed they were gone.

Vermin in the Abbey. It was not something Zaris thought he would see even in the short time he planned on staying. Still, he didn't know a lot of the traditions in the Abbey, so maybe this was something that they did every Name Day? Either way he was going to keep a close watch on these three. He let Rigby do the talking at the front of their little entourage, the mouse was always better at it than he was, and kept in step behind.

He let his mind wander as they walked; wishing that the line in front of him didn't include a fox, ferret, and stoat, but rather a traipsing patrol of river otters marching down the stream to catch either some dinner or sneaking vermin. His father, their Skipper, raising his strong voice to lead a jaunty tune about great battles and feasts. A pang of painful memory struck his chest and he slightly shook his head to rid himself of his own thoughts and return to the task at hand.

Despite the lapse, a smile crossed his face at the sight of Ellis and he gave the large Hedgehog a nod in return to the pat he received on the shoulder. He liked the old cellar hog, and many of the older beasts were privy to what it was that brought Zaris to the Abbey in the first place. He held all of the Abbey beasts in high regard, so the companionship was appreciated, and he always knew Ellis was good for a song or story and a bit of a drink. He watched the Hedgehog meander is way out of the Abbey and into Mossflower Woods proper before swiveling his head back towards Rigby at the mouse's call.

Being in the presence of vermin made him uncomfortable, made him want to pull his dual swords and rid the woods of more of the beasts, but within the Abbey walls he knew he couldn't. Still, he shuffled past and pulled open the door for Rigby; keeping it open until the three vermin passed through then returning to his step behind.

The smells of the kitchen were enticing and he let a bit of excitement build for the feast that was to come. A genuine light lit his eyes as the Friar called out to them. There weren't many otters in the woods around the Abbey, let alone inside the walls, so it was always a joy to meet up with Ruddy. The big otter reminded him a great deal of many of the others in his tribe, and nothing quite set the heart at ease like a familiar face.

He caught the chestnut as it was tossed towards him and gave a quick nod, "Aye, I can do that for ya. Brother Jethro should have the gate just fine. He kept it well before I joined 'im, so a moment more shouldn't be grayin' his fur." He tossed the chestnut into his mouth as he made his way to the cellar. He was happy to hand the vermin off to someone else to watch and he knew Ruddy wouldn't let them get away with anything. Ellis wouldn't be back yet as far as he was aware, but he figured someone would be in the cellar to ask about more hotroot. He didn't want to be wandering around for too long and no way old Ellis left it unattended.

The stones were cool on his paws and the sheer number of barrels, taps, and brews was always astounding to Zaris. Though with it being Name Day he couldn't say it was a surprise nor was he going to complain about the number of options. He caught sight of the second spiked head that spent most of their time in the cellar, "'Lo there Grant," he only knew Ellis' son in a passing manner but it was enough for him to feel comfortable asking, "Friar Ruddy is askin' for some more hotroot. You know if there's any more?"
