Welp, false alarm everyone. Not completely but it wasn't as bad as I think we were all speculating it'd be. It's pretty much confirmed now that Amethyst is defective to some extent, but that's not really the focus here, today. Amethyst is facing the classic "accomplished rookie gets upstaged and surpassed by more accomplished, newer rookie, and doesn't really know how to handle it". Amethyst works hard to do what she can, and Steven working and surpassing her only makes her feel worse. They both take out their anger on each other (Ame moreso than steven, but it's a little obvious he's working off stress), lightening the air after a good, old fashioned fight. Amethyst wants to prove Japser, another quartz, wrong, and Steven is doing everything he can to live up to the expectations that were set at Rose's level from the get-go. Amethyst, as young as she is, knows that it's not best to talk about Rose, or Steven replacing her, or anything like that, and admits that bringing up her own similar problems was a bad idea.

It was a good episode.

so, just popping in real quick. nothing spoilery, but I do have some interesting thoughts about Rose and the Gems. They all seem to be problem children, for one reason or another. Pearl, a loyal servant but little else, who's trying to continue living in the memory of Rose, who seemed to approve of her behavoir. Garnet, the runaway who is hated by homeworld simply by existing, once again, Rose encourages Garnet to be garnet, no matter what it entails. And Amethyst, an overbaked quartz soldier, defective in nature, but continued fighting to prove she has worth.

Now, it's not to say that it's a bad message by any means, but it's simply interesting how each of the have their problems and face them (both individually, and with the assistance of Rose). The message of "be who you are"/"Love yourself" is a good one, and it seems like everyone's stories are finally getting the attention that we need.

Given what we know and what we've seen, Bismuth might have A) been bubbled and placed with Lion to keep them safe until an unknown later event would happen. B) Be another prisoner of war, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. I think Limp Bizmuth might be a builder of some sort, but I don't know.

whale whale whale. Before, we have seen the term "Defective" used as an insult to the crystal gems, but I think that it's literally meant for Amethyst. She was the last of the gems to ever pop out of the kindergarten, supposedly when it was still active. Her hole, much smaller and further away from all of the others, signifies difference. It seemed like Ame was still kicking around the kindergarten when Rose and the others came across it, even though all gems are apparently supposed to know what their purpose is right after creation. Quartz gems apparently are a warrior race, and if Jasper is of any example, has a drive for violence and combat. Rose was a powerful general and tactician, but Amethyst most likely didn't have anything like that. She transforms and imitates people and things, and has had a history of quickly reforming, most likely to reflect how lost she is on her own purpose. Amethyst does what Amethyst is, but she knows that there is a purpose that all Amethysts are meant for that she cannot do.

Given what we know from last week's episode, it's pretty possible that Jasper might be collecting them to forcibly fuse with them. She's power hungry, and I like that they're making her a villain right now. To be honest, I don't want her to be redeemed. I want her to be the villain, or at the very least a difficult to redeem antihero who breaks down homeworld because she doesn't like how their laws conflict with what she wants.
