Like, a personal assistant. Helps around with what Headmistress wants/needs done. Can be played out for comedic effect depending on what kind of assistant is made. I was just going to do it myself but thought I'd give the fun option in case someone wanted to. Otherwise, I'll just do it all myself.

It's kind of a 'gene' but can pop up through families randomly. . . Or just lay dormant for generations.

Some 'Holy' organizations consider them 'Demonic' and put Witches and Demonic Cults on the same level. There is no general magic hunting inquisition though.

Familiars are done differently through different methods. Some are summons now bound, others are created through magics. Blood Sacrifices is a 'Demonic' magic thing.

Right, right. In my fictional world of fiction. . . Let's call it Earth. There are different types of magic. You have your "Holy" magic, Demonic, Arcane, and a few others that tend to be underused or overshadowed. They don't exactly practice in secret, yet not widely known. Holy magic is what you imagine it to be and Demonic is what you imagine it to be. For those of you with little imagination, think Priests and Clerics from almost any source and warlocks, summoning demons, fire and other things from any source as well. Arcane is sort of a midway between these two and what tends to keep them both in check. The Arcane school is the school that one would consider mages and other things of the sort.

By the way, if you wondered where exactly Witchcraft sat in this type of conflict. . . Well look the equation and take Witchcraft out of it completely.

Next, curses. . . Curses are fun. Curses stem from adrkness (intentional), like you said, but also require more than that as well. It depends on what kind of curse. Let's say we consider turning someone into a frog is a curse. That would require mastery over Darkness and Alteration.

"Holy"

Holy magic is the embodiment of the gods from above high. While it incorporates many things, it is very well know for it's cures, plagues and pestilences.

Demonic

Demonic magic is the embodiment and the extension of will from the demons and devils from below the surface of earth. Practitioners typically summon demons, conjure fireballs, among other things.

Arcane

Arcane magic is a midway of Demonic and Holy. It does many things neither of the others do, and takes of advantage of that by regulating the other two magic groups. They gather in towers and like to be called Mages or Wizards.
